Track Surface & Bias
On the dirt (D), Delaware Park's one-mile main track typically plays fast in this part of the meet, with a mild speed/tactical-speed bias, especially when the surface is dry and well-maintained. Inside-to-mid posts (roughly posts 2–5) tend to be the most efficient, giving an edge to front-runners and pressers who secure position early and avoid wide, ground-losing trips. Deep closers can still be effective, but they generally need an above-average early pace or larger, contentious fields to fully capitalize.
On the turf (T), Delaware's tight 7/8-mile inner course usually offers firm to good footing at this point in the meet, favoring stalkers and mid-pack runners who sit within a few lengths of the lead, save ground, and produce a controlled, well-timed finish. There is a modest preference for inside-to-middle draws, while wide posts are more vulnerable if the tempo is moderate and trips get wide into the far turn.
