Track Surface & Bias

The Delaware Park dirt track on a typical late‑May card generally plays fair to slightly kind to early speed, especially at sprint distances like 6 furlongs. Inside to middle posts (1–6) tend to be mildly advantageous when the surface is dry and packed, with forwardly placed runners able to secure position into the first turn or down the backstretch without expending excessive energy. As the day progresses and the surface gets more traffic, the track can level out somewhat, with pace-pressers and tactical stalkers sitting just off the leaders often getting the best of tiring frontrunners rather than deep closers.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given the expected profile, upgrade horses with tactical speed who have shown the ability to break cleanly and secure a stalking or pace-pressing trip from inside or middle posts. Deep closers dependent on a pace collapse may be at a disadvantage unless a particular race is loaded with early speed; look closely at projected pace scenarios in each race to spot where the bias might be magnified or neutralized.
