Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Delaware Park, October 17, 2026
Weather Forecast
Sunny and cooler, with a high near 55°F. Northwest winds around 15 mph may gust to approximately 30 mph, with little or no precipitation expected during the afternoon.
Track Surface & Bias
Dirt: Expect a fast, drying main track following Friday's rain, with the inside lanes and forward position potentially offering an advantage if maintenance leaves the rail firm. Front-runners and stalkers should be preferable to deep closers, while the northwest wind may make exposed wide trips more demanding.
Turf: The grass should be firm to good after the clearing weather, favoring tactical speed and runners able to secure position near the inside. Closers can still gain if the course is left damp underneath, but sustained wind makes wide, late rallies less attractive.
Handicapper’s Edge
Give extra weight to dirt horses with early speed and turf runners possessing tactical positioning. Reassess the bias after the first few races, particularly if the rail becomes noticeably better or tiring as the card progresses.
