Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Delaware Park, October 3, 2026

Weather Forecast

Temperatures should run in the upper 60s to low 70s, with a chance of showers developing after midafternoon and increasing into the evening. Winds are expected to be moderate, generally from the north at roughly 7–9 mph during the evening hours.

Track Surface & Bias

Recent heavy rain and high winds from the nor'easter forced the previous Delaware Park program to be canceled, so the dirt may begin the day carrying some moisture before drying if showers hold off. On a potentially wet or drying main track, tactical speed and stalkers generally hold an advantage, with inside-to-middle posts preferable if the surface remains compact; closers become more attractive only if the track loosens or develops a pronounced outside lane. The turf should favor runners with proven form on soft or yielding ground if showers arrive, while an earlier, firmer course would place greater emphasis on position and efficient ground-saving trips.

Handicapper’s Edge

Separate dirt and turf evaluations carefully, giving extra weight to recent wet-track form on the main track and soft-ground experience on the grass. Monitor the first few races for moisture-related bias before committing heavily, particularly if the turf course changes from firm to yielding.
