Under those conditions, inside and mid-posts are usually the most efficient starting points, and front-runners or pace-pressers tend to have the strongest edge if they clear early and control position.
When the track is playing more tiring, the bias can shift toward stalkers with tactical speed, while pure closers generally need a fast pace and a clean trip to get involved. At Delta Downs, the shorter configuration and emphasis on position make early placement more important than deep closing rallies, so horses able to break sharply and secure forward position are often best suited to the expected profile.
Handicapper's Edge: For wagering, give extra weight to horses with proven early speed, good gate behavior, and inside-to-middle draws, especially if the surface appears quick. If the pace looks contested, upgrade stalkers who can sit just off the lead and still finish; deep closers are usually the most vulnerable profile unless the race shape becomes unusually hot.
