Track Surface & Bias

Delta Downs' dirt surface typically rewards early speed more than deep closers, especially when the track is fast and moisture is limited. In these conditions, inside and forwardly placed runners often have the best trip, while horses that can secure position into the first turn tend to be advantaged.

Given the likely summer Gulf Coast environment, the most common bias setup is a speed-favoring track with a slight edge to rail-to-midpost draws in shorter races and to horses able to stalk just off the pace if the pace becomes contested. Closers usually need a stronger-than-average pace or a tiring surface to make up ground efficiently.
