Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Hawthorne Race Course, June 11, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
Hawthorne's dirt (D) surface typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring, with a slight edge to inside-to-middle posts and forwardly placed runners when the track is listed fast. On recent similar June cards, analysis has noted that early pace types holding the rail or saving ground into the first turn have enjoyed a small but consistent advantage, while deep closers needed a strong pace meltdown to get involved late.
The turf (T) course at Hawthorne has historically leaned toward stalkers and mid-pack runners, especially those breaking from middle posts who can secure position before the first turn without losing ground three-wide or more. When the turf is on the firm side, horses with a quick turn of foot and the ability to accelerate off moderate fractions tend to outperform one-dimensional front-runners who are pressured early or closers left with too much to do.
Handicapper’s Edge
Given these tendencies, bettors may want to slightly upgrade dirt runners with tactical speed from inside or mid-gate draws, especially in larger fields where ground loss around the turns can be costly. On turf, preference can be tilted toward versatile stalkers drawn away from the far outside, as they are best positioned to adapt to the pace and exploit the late-running bias without needing an extreme setup.
