Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Keeneland Race Course, October 22, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
The dirt profile has favored early speed, with mid-to-outside posts strongest in sprints and the rail more effective in longer routes. Expect forwardly placed runners and stalkers to remain preferable, while closers will need a genuine pace collapse; avoid overvaluing the inside in short dirt races.
On turf, the rail and inside paths have produced the clearest advantage, while wide draws and wide trips have generally been costly. Give extra credit to ground-saving stalkers and tactical speed from inner posts, particularly in full fields.
Handicapper’s Edge
Prioritize dirt horses capable of securing position early, with post preference depending on distance: middle/outside in sprints and inside-to-middle in routes. On the grass, favor inside-drawn runners that can save ground, and demand stronger form or a pace advantage from horses starting wide.
