Track Surface & Bias

Keeneland's card includes both dirt and turf racing. The dirt historically rewards inside speed, particularly in route races, with front-runners and stalkers breaking from inside posts generally better positioned than deep closers. On the compact turf course, tactical position and saving ground around the turns are important; runners able to secure an inside or midpack trip should hold an advantage over horses forced wide.

Handicapper’s Edge

Give additional weight to early speed, tactical positioning, and inside draws, especially in dirt routes and turf races around the turns. Be cautious with deep closers unless the pace projects hot, and downgrade wide-drawn runners that may have difficulty securing a ground-saving trip.
