Track Surface & Bias

The dirt (D) surface at LMR typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring when dry, with an edge to forwardly placed runners—especially pace-pressers and stalkers who can sit just off the early lead. Historical patterns show inside-to-middle posts generally perform best in sprints, while routes tend to even out with more neutral post effects as field size and trip dynamics become more important.

When moisture is in the surface from recent weather, LMR's dirt has historically shifted toward a stronger front-running bias, as horses on or near the lead face less kickback and can control the pace. Under more sustained dry conditions, the track tends to level out, giving capable off-the-pace types a better chance to reel in tiring speed, particularly in the later races when the surface has been harrowed and trafficked.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given LMR's usual dirt profile, prioritize tactical speed: horses with enough early foot to secure position without needing the lead often get the run of the race. In sprints, lean slightly toward inside-to-middle draws with proven gate speed, while in routes, give added credit to runners who have shown they can maintain position into the first turn and relax just behind the leaders.
