Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Lone Star Park, June 28, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

Lone Star Park's dirt (D) surface typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring, with an edge to front-runners and pace-pressers going shorter sprint distances, especially in lower-level races. Rail and inside posts are generally acceptable, but on big cards and as the day progresses, the most consistent trips often come from middle posts that can secure position without getting pinned on the fence. On the turf (T) course, historical patterns favor stalkers and mid-pack runners who can quicken turning for home, with wide, sweeping moves from the far outside less effective than saving some ground and angling out in the lane.

Given typical early-summer conditions at Grand Prairie, expect tight, fast dirt that rewards horses who can secure position early and maintain momentum, while deep closers will need a strong pace collapse to be fully effective. Turf races are likely to favor tactical speed—horses sitting 2–5 lengths off the lead—with inside-to-middle posts preferred and late-charging closers needing both pace and clear lanes to make a serious impact.

Handicapper’s Edge

On dirt, lean slightly toward forwardly placed runners and horses drawn in mid-range posts who have shown the ability to break clean and hold position into the first turn or through the opening furlong. On turf, give extra credit to tactical stalkers and runners with proven turn-of-foot who consistently sit just behind the pace rather than extreme closers or need-the-lead types. Under these conditions, trip and post position should be weighted heavily in your wagering decisions, particularly in full fields and route races.
