Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Lone Star Park, June 7, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
The dirt track (D) at Lone Star Park typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring, especially in the sprint distances, with forwardly placed runners and pace-pressing stalkers holding a consistent edge when the surface is dry and maintained fast. Inside to middle posts (posts 1–6) are often advantageous in sprints, while route races can see a more even distribution, with tactical speed from middle posts performing well historically. When temperatures are warm and the surface retains moisture from recent weather, the track can become a bit tighter, further helping front-runners and pace pressers to carry their speed.
The turf course (T) at Lone Star Park is generally kind to stalkers and mid-pack runners, especially at route distances where a controlled early pace is common. Extreme inside posts can occasionally be at a slight disadvantage in two-turn turf routes if the rail is set out, as saving ground must be balanced against traffic and trip issues, while middle posts and patient, well-timed runs tend to perform best under typical firm-to-good conditions.
Handicapper’s Edge
Given the prevailing patterns, dirt races may reward horses with tactical speed and riders intent on securing position early rather than deep closers reliant on a pace collapse. On the turf, placing extra emphasis on runners with a proven stalking or mid-pack finishing style and reliable turn of foot should be a sound approach, particularly in full fields where trip nuance and ground loss can decide outcomes.
