Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Lone Star Park, May 24, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

The Lone Star Park main track (D) typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring, especially at sprint distances, with an edge to horses showing tactical speed who can secure a forward position without dueling early. Inside-to-middle posts (1–6) are historically solid in dirt sprints, while routes often see a slight preference for mid-gate draws that can avoid early congestion but still save some ground into the first turn. On the turf (T), the course generally rewards efficient ground-saving trips and late turn of foot, with stalkers and mid-pack runners often finishing best when the pace is honest; wide, deep closers need a strong early tempo to fully capitalize, and posts toward the inside third of the gate usually hold a modest advantage.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given these patterns, upgrade runners with tactical speed on dirt who have shown the ability to break cleanly and maintain position around the turns, particularly from inside-to-middle gates. On turf, put a premium on horses drawn reasonably inside with proven finishing kick and riders known for patient, ground-saving rides, while downgrading pace-dependent front-runners stretching out if multiple other speed types are signed on.
