Track Surface & Bias

MID's Turf course is expected to favor horses with tactical speed—front-runners and stalkers able to secure position before the final turn. On a typical firm-to-good autumn turf surface, inside-to-middle posts should offer the most efficient trip, while wide-drawn closers may need favorable pace and clear running room. Historical turf patterns indicate that post position becomes more important on tighter turns, particularly when the pace is moderate.

Handicapper’s Edge

Prioritize runners proven on similar turf and give extra credit to those with tactical speed and an efficient draw. Treat deep closers and extreme outside posts cautiously unless the early pace projects to be strong enough to bring them into contention.
