Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Monmouth Park, May 17, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
Monmouth Park's dirt and turf cards often reward tactical speed, especially on the main track when conditions are fast and the course is playing fair. On the dirt, inside-to-middle posts typically hold an advantage in sprints, with forwardly placed runners and stalkers generally more reliable than deep closers, particularly if the surface tightens up through the afternoon.
On turf, the most favorable trips usually go to horses with positional speed and an efficient stalking run, especially when the rail is in and the course is firm. If the turf is playing honest, closers can still factor, but they often need a strong pace setup or a clean inside-saving trip to finish the job.
