Mountaineer Park's main track profile usually rewards speed and position, especially when the dirt is fast or only mildly affected by moisture. On a typical card, inside-to-middle posts tend to be more efficient on the dirt, while front-runners and stalkers generally hold the advantage over deep closers. The turf surface at Mountaineer usually plays more fairly than the dirt, but when firm and tight, tactical horses with early placement often get first run turning for home.
For wagering, the safest approach is to lean toward horses that can secure early position without needing a collapse.
