Pick Pony Track Condition Report — MTP, November 7, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
Mountaineer's recent dirt profile has favored early speed, with front-runners particularly effective at six furlongs and one mile; inside posts have been advantageous at those distances, while the 5½-furlong sprint profile has leaned more toward outside posts. The relatively flat layout also tends to reward horses with consistent speed. On the turf, limited recent data suggests avoiding an automatic closer bias and giving preference to runners able to secure position early.
Handicapper’s Edge
Favor dirt horses with tactical speed, especially those drawing inside or middle posts in route and six-furlong races. Treat outside speed more favorably in 5½-furlong events, and require stronger evidence before backing deep closers on either surface.
