Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Parx Racing, May 20, 2026
Weather Forecast
Morning conditions are expected to be mild, with temperatures building into the upper 60s to low 70s°F by mid‑card. Skies should be partly cloudy with only a slight chance of isolated showers, and winds projected in the 8–12 mph range, generally out of the northwest to west. Sustained rain is not anticipated, so the main track should remain on the fast side or quickly return to fast if any brief showers pass through.
Track Surface & Bias
Parx's dirt surface on dry or drying‑out days typically plays fair to mildly favorable to speed, especially in the middle portions of the card when the track tightens and times quicken. Inside posts can be advantageous at the commonly run sprint distances (5½f–6½f), where early pace and tactical speed allow runners to secure position into the first bend; at a mile and beyond, ground‑saving trips are still helpful, but capable stalkers sitting just off the leaders tend to finish best. When the track is fast and not sealed, deep closers usually need an honest or contested pace to impact, and horses forced wide on both turns can be at a disadvantage versus those holding the rail or second path.
Handicapper’s Edge
Given a likely fast, relatively tight surface, upgrade horses with proven early foot or pace‑pressing ability, particularly those drawn inside to middle posts in sprints. In routes, prefer versatile types that can sit just behind the speed and tip out turning for home, while demanding a clear setup and value before backing deep closers who may be pace‑dependent on a speed‑leaning strip.
