Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Santa Anita Park, October 2, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

Santa Anita's dirt and turf courses are expected to be fast and firm, with recent conditions favoring early speed on dirt and tactical positioning on turf. Dirt sprints have generally rewarded front-runners and stalkers, while inside-to-middle posts should offer efficient trips if the track remains well maintained. The turf course should favor stalkers and pace-tracking runners able to save ground; deep closers may need a strong pace to overcome the disadvantage of a wide rally.

Handicapper’s Edge

Give added weight to dirt runners with proven early speed or pressing ability, particularly in sprint races. On turf, prioritize adaptable horses that can secure position without losing ground, and treat wide-drawn closers as pace-dependent rather than automatic upgrades.
