Thistledown's main track should play fast and fair if it follows the recent early-August pattern of warm, mostly dry conditions, with the dirt surface typically favoring horses that can secure position early and keep momentum through the turn. In this kind of setup, inside-to-mid posts are usually the most efficient in sprints, while stalkers and pace-pressers tend to have the cleanest trip; deep closers generally need a stronger-than-average pace to make up ground.
For wagering, the edge usually goes to runners with natural early speed and a proven ability to hold a stalking spot without losing ground on the first turn.
