Race Day Overview — Tampa Bay Downs, April 26, 2026

Tampa Bay Downs closes out its 2025-2026 meet with a nine-race Sunday card featuring a mix of maiden, claiming, and optional claiming events spanning both the dirt and turf surfaces. The day's program is headlined by Race 8, an optional claiming route for older horses carrying a $55,500 purse, and Race 5, a maiden special weight turf sprint that draws a competitive nine-horse field. The full card leans heavily toward the lower-to-mid claiming ranks, which is typical for the tail end of the Tampa meet, and the fields are populated largely by horses based at the track all winter.

Gerald S. Bennett is the dominant trainer presence on this card, saddling runners in Races 1, 2, 3, and 7. Kathleen O'Connell also has multiple entries, appearing in Races 2, 3, 6, and 9. Michael V. Simone sends out horses in Races 7, 8, and 9. On the jockey side, Samuel Marin is the busiest rider on the day, piloting mounts in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9. Israel O. Rodriguez also has a full book, appearing in Races 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9. The depth of involvement from these connections will be a recurring theme throughout the analysis below.

No major scratches or changes have been reported ahead of first post.

Weather and Track Conditions — April 26, 2026

Tampa, Florida is forecast to see partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s on Sunday afternoon. There is a modest chance of isolated afternoon showers typical of late April in the Tampa Bay region, though the probability is not high enough to anticipate a significantly compromised track surface at post time. The main track at Tampa Bay Downs is expected to be listed as fast, with the turf course listed as firm or good. Should any morning showers materialize, the turf could soften to good, which would not dramatically alter the tactical profile of the three turf events on the card but could slightly favor horses that have shown an ability to handle some give in the ground.

Tampa Bay Downs uses a Tapeta surface on its main track, which is a synthetic-blend material. This is a critical distinction for bettors unfamiliar with the track. While labeled “D” (dirt) in the conditions, the Tampa main track is an all-weather Tapeta surface, not conventional dirt. This surface tends to play somewhat more evenly than traditional dirt, though rail-skimming speed horses still hold an advantage in sprints when the inner portion is sealed and fast.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Tampa Bay Downs' Tapeta main track historically shows a mild speed bias in sprints, particularly at distances of 1100f to 1210f. Horses that can establish early position within the first two or three spots often hold a meaningful advantage, though the synthetic surface does allow closers to run on more consistently than conventional dirt. In longer routes on the main track (1760f and above), the pace tends to self-regulate and closers have a somewhat better record than in sprints.

On the turf course, Tampa Bay Downs features a relatively tight layout that tends to favor horses with good tactical speed or those that can sit just off the pace. Post positions in turf races at Tampa can matter, particularly in shorter turf sprints at 1100f, where outside posts force horses to cover extra ground. In 1760f turf routes, inside posts can be advantageous for stalkers and closers who can save ground around the turn, though speed horses can also use inside posts to control the pace from the rail.

Post position data for the current Tampa meet shows that in sprints on the main track, posts 1 through 4 have been statistically stronger, while in turf routes, posts 3 through 7 have produced a slightly above-average win percentage. Extreme outside posts in turf routes have underperformed relative to morning line pricing.

RACE 1 — Post (12:35)/11:35/10:35/9:35 — 1800f | D | M | Md 16000 | BUM | Purse $23,000

This opener is a maiden claiming event at $16,000 for fillies and mares going a route of ground on the Tapeta surface. With a purse of $23,000, this is firmly bottom-rung territory, and the field of six reflects that reality. The race is BUM, meaning it is open to all ages and sexes, though the entry list is all female. The 1800f diStance (approximately 1-1/8 miles) will test stamina and routing ability, which is a key class filter in a field of largely unproven or repeatedly beaten maidens.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

With two horses sharing the 2-1 morning line and several plodders in the field, the pace scenario for this race is far from explosive. Lookin Lovely (2) and First Hathor (5) figure to be the primary market movers, and both carry enough early speed potential to establish position. Lady Aldene (1) in the rail post may also press early. Expect a modest pace that sets up for a pace-pressing type or a horse with a turn of foot in the stretch. A slow early pace could allow the favorite types to coast, but would also benefit any closers lurking in the field.

Key Contenders

Lookin Lovely (2) at 2-1 is co-favored and comes from the Gerald S. Bennett barn, which has multiple entries on the card today. Bennett has been one of the more active trainers at Tampa all meet, and his horses tend to be fit and ready. Lookin Lovely (2) gets Centeno in the irons, one of the more reliable riders in this colony, and draws a favorable post in a six-horse field. The 2-1 price reflects genuine respect from the morning line maker.

First Hathor (5) at 2-1 is trained by Kathleen O'Connell, who is one of the most active female trainers at Tampa and has shown a solid understanding of placing horses at the right level. First Hathor (5) is assigned Samuel Marin, who has the most rides on the card today and has been effective at this circuit. The 5-post in a six-horse field is not ideal for a routing maiden, but O'Connell's horses tend to be ready when pointed toward a spot.

Secondary Choices

Lady Aldene (1) at 4-1 draws the rail post and gets Rosario Montanez up. In a six-horse field, the rail at Tampa over 1800f is workable, and a horse that can secure good position early without being squeezed will benefit from the shorter run around the first turn. Trainer Jackie Acksel is a smaller-operation trainer at this meet, so connections are not as high-profile, but the price is reasonable.

Haven Safe (3) at 4-1 is trained by Darien Rodriguez and ridden by Gaddiel A. Martinez, a jockey who is active on this card. At 4-1 in a six-horse field with co-favorites, Haven Safe (3) represents a mid-level alternative. The outside draw relative to the rail horses means she will need to show some foot early or sit within striking range around the turn.

Longshots

D Orbie's Girl (6) at 5-1 from the outside post with Cesar Gonzalez represents an interesting overlay if the pace collapses inward and the outside closers can take advantage of a wide run. Trainer Douglas Jones is quiet at this level, but 5-1 in a six-horse maiden claiming sprint for a route trip is a price worth noting.

R Skyline (4) at 15-1 is the second Bennett entry in this race, trained by Gerald S. Bennett and piloted by Marvin Fernandez. In maiden claiming races, barn mates can present a conflict of interest dynamic, and typically one horse will be the stable's primary hope while the other serves as a secondary option. Given that Lookin Lovely (2) gets the more prominent jockey assignment in Centeno, R Skyline (4) at 15-1 appears to be the barn's secondary horse in this spot.

Selections

Win: Lookin Lovely (2) Place: First Hathor (5) Show: Lady Aldene (1)

Betting Strategy: With both favorites at 2-1 in a six-horse field, the exotics here are compressed. Box a $1 exacta with Lookin Lovely (2) and First Hathor (5), and use Lady Aldene (1) as a saver in the trifecta underneath. The 5-1 price on D Orbie's Girl (6) in trifecta slots is worth a token inclusion.

Race 2 is a claiming race at $5,000 for fillies and mares who have not won two races in the past year, going approximately 1430f on the Tapeta surface. This is the lowest claiming level on the card and features a seven-horse field with two co-favorites at 2-1 and a wide spread of morning line prices.

Pace Analysis

Seven horses at the lowest claiming level over a route distance creates a complicated pace picture. Countless Dreams (3) and Kikilove (4) are the co-favorites and both figure to be prominent early. Mama Drama (1) may also press from the inside. A contested early pace would set up for closers, while a slow pace at this level of competition typically benefits whoever can establish the front. La Gata Salvaje (5) and Trumpetta (7) are likely to be well back early.

Key Contenders

Countless Dreams (3) at 2-1 is trained by Kathleen O'Connell, who has been a consistent presence throughout this report. Countless Dreams (3) gets Sonny Leon, a jockey who has shown strong results at several circuits and brings a higher skill level than most mounts at the $5,000 claiming level. O'Connell's record at this meet and her ability to place horses well makes Countless Dreams (3) the logical top selection.

Kikilove (4) at 2-1 is trained by Renaldo Richards and ridden by Samuel Marin. At the lowest claiming level, the combination of a capable jockey and a co-favored price deserves respect. Kikilove (4) draws the 4-post in a seven-horse field, which is a reasonable middle position in a route.

Secondary Choices

Mama Drama (1) at 4-1 is the Bennett barn representative with Marvin Fernandez up from the rail. Bennett runners tend to be consistent at this meet, and the inside post over a longer route at Tampa can be an asset for a horse that can break alertly and control its own pace.

Miss Interpatation (2) at 4-1 is trained by Leslielyn N. Hardesty and ridden by J.C. Ferrer, one of the most experienced jockeys in this colony. The 2-post is excellent in a route and Ferrer's familiarity with the Tampa surface is a plus. At 4-1 this horse represents a value alternative to the two co-favorites.

Longshots

Queen Atlas (6) at 8-1 gives trainer Tena Birdwell a second entry in this race alongside La Gata Salvaje (5). The more capable jockey assignment goes to Queen Atlas (6) with Fausto Henrique Da Silva, suggesting this is the stable's preferred runner. At 8-1 in a seven-horse field, Queen Atlas (6) is a live longshot and a legitimate trifecta consideration.

La Gata Salvaje (5) at 15-1 is the other Birdwell entry with Jose A. Leon. Given the jockey hierarchy within the stable's two entries, La Gata Salvaje (5) appears to be the secondary option and is likely to be a trifecta filler at best.

Trumpetta (7) at 20-1 from the outside post with Martina Rojas is a deep longshot in a race that should be won by one of the top four horses. Trumpetta (7) would need the pace to collapse entirely and the field to move wide to make any run viable. Use only as a deep exacta or trifecta saver at best.

Selections

Win: Countless Dreams (3) Place: Miss Interpatation (2) Show: Kikilove (4)

Betting Strategy: Key Countless Dreams (3) on top in exactas with Miss Interpatation (2) and Kikilove (4). In trifectas, use Countless Dreams (3) over Miss Interpatation (2) and Kikilove (4) over Mama Drama (1) and Queen Atlas (6). Miss Interpatation (2) at 4-1 with Ferrer riding from the 2-post offers legitimate exacta value.

Race 3 is a maiden event at $25,000 on the turf going 1760f (one mile). This is a nine-horse field with a heavy favorite in TAKE DAT (8) at 1-1 and a wide array of longer prices. The race is BUM and is open to all ages and both sexes. The turf at 1760f will reward horses with stamina and an ability to travel in traffic around a turn.

Pace Analysis

Take Dat (8) at 1-1 is the class of this field by morning line and presumably by form, and the Bennett barn's choice of Samuel Marin underscores the confidence. Whether Take Dat (8) is a speed horse or a closer will significantly shape the pace. Seeking Serenity (5) at 2-1 from the O'Connell barn with Cotto aboard is the only horse that figures to match the favorite on the board. Too Much Fun (1) from the inside post may try to control early fractions if he has early speed. At 1760f on turf in a maiden event, expect a moderate pace with a bunched field through the first half-mile.

Key Contenders

Take Dat (8) at 1-1 is the clear morning line choice from the Gerald S. Bennett stable. The 8-post on the turf in a nine-horse field is not ideal, as outside posts on turf routes at Tampa carry a slight disadvantage, but the heavy favorite status suggests this horse has the ability to overcome the post. Bennett's multiple entries on today's card and his strong meet record make Take Dat (8) the horse to beat. Samuel Marin's extensive experience around the Tampa turf course is an asset.

Seeking Serenity (5) at 2-1 from the O'Connell barn gets Cotto aboard from the favorable 5-post. O'Connell is adept at placing maiden horses at the appropriate level, and the 2-1 morning line in a field with a 1-1 favorite means the market views this as a genuine two-horse race. The inside post advantage over Take Dat (8) could matter if both horses have similar ability.

Secondary Choices

Too Much Fun (1) at 4-1 is trained by William Deaton and draws the inside post with Cipriano Gil up. On the turf at 1760f, the rail post can be a distinct advantage if the horse can clear early traffic and sit behind the pace in a comfortable stalking position. At 4-1 with the rail draw, Too Much Fun (1) represents value against the two heavy favorites.

Go K J Go (6) at 8-1 gets Da Silva from the 6-post and is trained by David VanWinkle. Da Silva has been one of the more active and effective jockeys in this colony and the 6-post on the turf is a manageable position. At 8-1, Go K J Go (6) has trifecta appeal.

Longshots

Maggies Brew (9) at 12-1 is trained by John I. Pimental and draws the outside post with Wesley Ho up. The 9-post on the turf at Tampa is one of the most penalizing positions available in a nine-horse field at this distance, and this horse will need to cover additional ground unless he settles back early and makes a run on the outside. At 12-1, some trifecta usage is warranted.

Ghosts Lil Secret (2) at 15-1 with Marleni Noguera up is trained by Debra Donaldson. This is a barn that operates at the lower levels of the Tampa meet, and the 15-1 price reflects that. Use only as a deep trifecta filler.

Starship Legacy (7) at 30-1 from trainer John Fennessy with Walber Alencar up is a deep longshot. Little to recommend at this price in a two-horse market race.

La Reina Del Flow (4) at 30-1 is the second Donaldson entry with Gabriel Maldonado up. Similar to Ghosts Lil Secret (2), this horse is likely along for the experience and is a trifecta throwout.

Storm Search (3) at 30-1 from trainer Arthur O. Agostini with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is another distant longshot in what amounts to a two-horse race at the top. Minimal wagering interest.

Selections

Win: Take Dat (8) Place: Seeking Serenity (5) Show: Too Much Fun (1)

Betting Strategy: With a 1-1 favorite in the field, the win pool will be compressed. The value play is to key Take Dat (8) and Seeking Serenity (5) in exactas in both orders, and construct trifectas using Take Dat (8) and Seeking Serenity (5) on top with Too Much Fun (1) and Go K J Go (6) in the third spot. If you want to take a shot against the heavy favorite, Seeking Serenity (5) at 2-1 has realistic upside given her post position edge.

Race 4 is a six-furlong claiming sprint at $20,000 for a mixed field of fillies, mares, and possibly open. The purse of $32,500 represents a significant step up from the early races on the card. This is the shortest dirt sprint on the card at 1210f, and the Tapeta surface at Tampa historically rewards early speed at this trip.

Pace Analysis

This six-horse field could see a heated early battle with multiple horses capable of pressing fractions. Fistfulofmoney (2) at 2-1 and I'm Mischievous (5) at 2-1 are the co-morning line favorites and both likely have some tactical speed. Win Winnie Win (4) at 3-1 and Charlie Mac Mac (3) at 4-1 could also press the issue. A contested pace would set up for Hurricane Season (1) or any horse that can rate and close in the final furlong. On the Tampa Tapeta, speed horses hold up reasonably well even in contested paces at 1210f.

Key Contenders

Fistfulofmoney (2) at 2-1 is trained by Kevin Rice and ridden by Israel O. Rodriguez. Rice has multiple runners on today's card and shows strong activity at this meet. Rodriguez is one of the busiest jockeys at Tampa and has a deep familiarity with the surface. The 2-post in a six-horse sprint is ideal for a horse with early foot, allowing a clean break and a clear run to the first turn.

I'm Mischievous (5) at 2-1 is trained by Mike Dini and ridden by Samuel Marin, the most-booked rider on the card today. Dini's runners at the $20,000 claiming level at Tampa have been competitive, and the 5-post gives this horse room to find its stride. The co-favored price with Rodriguez's mount on Fistfulofmoney (2) signals genuine market respect for both horses.

Secondary Choices

Win Winnie Win (4) at 3-1 is trained by Juan Carlos Avila and ridden by Cipriano Gil. The 4-post in a six-horse sprint is a comfortable position, and at 3-1 the morning line suggests this horse is legitimate. Gil is active and capable at this circuit, and a horse with tactical speed from the 4-post that can sit just off the pace could benefit if the co-favorites cancel each other out.

Charlie Mac Mac (3) at 4-1 is trained by Tim Padilla and ridden by Alonso Quinonez. Padilla has an entry in Race 7 as well, and his horses tend to be fit runners at the claiming level. Charlie Mac Mac (3) at 4-1 from the 3-post is a solid middle-of-the-pack option that warrants inclusion in exactas and trifectas.

Longshots

Hurricane Season (1) at 10-1 draws the rail with Sonny Leon up, trained by Gary Ellebracht. In a contested six-furlong pace, Hurricane Season (1) would benefit from a speed duel ahead and could close into a soft spot at 10-1. Leon is capable enough to give a closer a patient ride. This horse represents the best longshot value in the race.

Camden Hills (6) at 20-1 from trainer Steven F. Cahill with Cesar Gonzalez up is a significant outsider in a competitive sprint. The 6-post is the widest draw, and at 20-1 this horse would need the pace to be absolutely contested and every horse inside to tire for any chance. Use only as a deep trifecta filler.

Selections

Win: Fistfulofmoney (2) Place: Win Winnie Win (4) Show: I'm Mischievous (5)

Betting Strategy: The co-favorites here create an opportunity for exacta value by siding with one over the other. Key Fistfulofmoney (2) on top with Win Winnie Win (4) and I'm Mischievous (5) in both directions. In trifectas, use the top three horses over Charlie Mac Mac (3) in the third slot. Hurricane Season (1) at 10-1 is a logical trifecta saver if the pace collapses.

Race 5 is the day’s premier maiden special weight event, run at 1100f on the turf. The $55,000 purse reflects the prestige of a maiden special weight condition at Tampa, and the nine-horse field features two horses sharing the 2-1 morning line favorite billing. This is the type of race that rewards horses from strong breeding backgrounds facing their first or second start, and the turf sprint at 1100f tests quickness more than stamina.

Pace Analysis

At 1100f on turf, the pace will be quick from the start. Dunloe (1) at 2-1 from the rail and Lucky Win Coco (8) at 2-1 from the outside are the co-favorites. A horse at the rail in a turf sprint has the advantage of the shortest path but must break cleanly. Lucky Win Coco (8) from the 8-post at 2-1 will be forced wide and must use energy to establish position. If both co-favorites press early, the pace could set up for stalkers from the middle of the pack such as Silver Juani (4) or Lady Of Troy (5).

Key Contenders

Dunloe (1) at 2-1 is trained by Gonzalez Aldana and ridden by Spieth S. The rail post in a turf sprint is a double-edged sword: it is the shortest path but requires a clean break to avoid being squeezed. At maiden special weight level, the training and breeding typically determine outcomes more than post position, and the co-favored morning line suggests this horse is well-regarded by connections. The rail at Tampa in a sprint can work if the horse is quick out of the gate.

Lucky Win Coco (8) at 2-1 is trained by Guillermo Morales Jr. and gets Samuel Marin, who is riding a heavy book today. The 8-post in a nine-horse turf sprint means this horse will need to work hard to secure position, but Marin's experience at this circuit helps. At 2-1 from an outside post, this horse carries strong market support that should be respected.

Secondary Choices

Silver Juani (4) at 4-1 is trained by Gerard Ochoa and ridden by D.E. Centeno. The 4-post in a turf sprint is ideal, sitting in the middle of the field with clean running room expected. Centeno is reliable and consistent, and a horse that can sit third or fourth early at 1100f on turf has a strong position to make a move through the lane.

Lady Of Troy (5) at 6-1 is trained by Mike Dini, who also runs I'm Mischievous (5) in Race 4. Lady Of Troy (5) draws the 5-post with Sonny Leon up, another experienced hand at this circuit. At 6-1 in a two-horse market race, this represents genuine overlay value if Leon can put this horse in a ground-saving spot early.

Longshots

Klum (3) at 8-1 is trained by Justin Nixon and ridden by Israel O. Rodriguez. The 3-post is excellent in a turf sprint, and at 8-1 with a capable jockey, Klum (3) is the most appealing longshot in the race. If the co-favorites set up the pace for each other, Klum (3) could be the beneficiary from a stalking position.

Tiz Her Law (2) at 12-1 is trained by Kevin Rice and ridden by Gaddiel A. Martinez. At 12-1 in a turf maiden special weight, this price is manageable as a trifecta inclusion if Rice's horses are forward-running types. The 2-post is excellent.

Intimate (9) at 20-1 is trained by Michelle Castillo and ridden by Wesley Ho. The outside post in a turf sprint is one of the most disadvantaged positions, and at 20-1 this horse is a longshot play only.

Perfect Twirl (6) at 20-1 gets J.C. Ferrer, which is the most notable positive for this horse. Ferrer's experience on the turf at Tampa gives Perfect Twirl (6) a marginal upgrade, but 20-1 reflects the underlying ability concerns. Worth a small exacta/trifecta flyer given Ferrer's skill.

Quazy Dancer (7) at 30-1 from trainer Lynn Rarick with Angel Serpa up is a throwout at this price. Pass entirely.

Selections

Win: Dunloe (1) Place: Silver Juani (4) Show: Lucky Win Coco (8)

Betting Strategy: The two co-favorites will dominate the win pool. Key Dunloe (1) and Lucky Win Coco (8) in exacta boxes, and use Silver Juani (4) and Lady Of Troy (5) underneath in trifectas. Klum (3) at 8-1 with Rodriguez from the 3-post is a logical inclusion as the third horse in trifecta coverage. A $1 trifecta box of Dunloe (1), Silver Juani (4), and Lucky Win Coco (8) with Klum (3) as a saver has value.

Race 6 is a maiden event at the $10,000 level, one-turn sprint at 1320f on the Tapeta main track. This is a ten-horse field with a heavy favorite in PATRIOT BLUECHIP (1) at 2-1 and a range of options from 3-1 to 30-1. The BUN condition opens this to fillies, mares, and geldings that have not won. The deep field presents good exotic wagering potential.

Pace Analysis

With ten horses and a wide array of early speed types potentially fighting for position, the pace scenario in Race 6 is one of the more complex on the card. Patriot Bluechip (1) at 2-1 from the rail presumably has the speed and class to control, but with horses like All The Luck (5) at 3-1 and Devilment (6) at 4-1 potentially pressing, the pace could be contentious. A fast early pace from a large field in a seven-furlong sprint on Tapeta would set up for closers like Bernardo's Legacy (9) at 4-1.

Key Contenders

Patriot Bluechip (1) at 2-1 is trained by Kathy Guciardo and ridden by Samuel Marin, the day's busiest rider. The rail post at 1320f on the Tapeta can be an advantage for a speed horse that breaks cleanly, as it has the shortest path and can establish position without fighting traffic. At 2-1 in a ten-horse maiden field, the market clearly respects this runner. Marin's heavy workload today is a consideration, but his familiarity with the surface and his experience at this circuit should overcome any fatigue factor.

All The Luck (5) at 3-1 is trained by Patrick B. McBurney and ridden by Sonny Leon, who is one of the sharpest jockeys at this meet. The 5-post is a comfortable mid-field position in a ten-horse sprint, and Leon's ability to read pace and find running room in traffic is a significant asset. At 3-1 with a top jockey, All The Luck (5) is a legitimate alternative to the favorite.

Devilment (6) at 4-1 gets Rosario Montanez from trainer Joseph F. Orseno. Orseno is one of the more experienced trainers at this meet and also sends out Bernardo's Legacy (9) in this same race. The jockey hierarchy within the barn—Montanez on Devilment (6) versus Gonzalez on Bernardo's Legacy (9)—is worth examining. Both Montanez and Gonzalez are capable, though neither carries as strong a win percentage as Leon or Marin.

Secondary Choices

Bernardo's Legacy (9) at 4-1 is the second Orseno entry in this race, with Cesar Gonzalez up. At 4-1 from the 9-post, this horse would need to overcome a wide draw in a ten-horse sprint. If Devilment (6) is the stable's primary hope, Bernardo's Legacy (9) is perhaps the value-priced alternative that could capitalize if pace collapses.

Arrow Ghost (4) at 8-1 from trainer Martin Paramo with Sara Hess up is a mid-price longshot in a wide-open ten-horse field. Arrow Ghost (4) draws the 4-post, which is favorable, and at 8-1 this horse warrants trifecta consideration.

Longshots

Party On Rufus (7) at 12-1 is trained by Juan Carlos Bacallao-Vega and ridden by Jose A. Leon. The 7-post is manageable in a ten-horse field at 1320f and this price has some appeal as a trifecta inclusion.

Stillnohasslejj (10) at 15-1 from trainer Pablo R. Torres with Israel O. Rodriguez up is interesting given Rodriguez's strong showing on this card. The extreme outside post is a penalty at 1320f, but Rodriguez is capable of rating a horse and waiting for an opening. At 15-1, this has longshot appeal in trifectas.

Sweet Independance (2) at 30-1 from trainer Tena Birdwell and Da Silva is a long shot with minimal handicapping merit at this price in a competitive field.

Virgin Island Nice (3) at 30-1 from trainer Robert Drake with Marvin Fernandez up has little to recommend from a pace or class perspective at 30-1.

Truly Urgent (8) at 30-1 from trainer Arnoud W. Dobber with Natalia Lynch up is a throwout at this price.

Selections

Win: Patriot Bluechip (1) Place: All The Luck (5) Show: Devilment (6)

Betting Strategy: Key Patriot Bluechip (1) in exactas with All The Luck (5) and Devilment (6). In trifectas, use Patriot Bluechip (1) and All The Luck (5) on top over Devilment (6), Bernardo's Legacy (9), and Arrow Ghost (4) in the third slot. The 3-1 price on All The Luck (5) with Sonny Leon represents value in a race where the favorite figures to absorb most of the win pool.

Race 7 is a mile-long turf claiming event at $10,000 for a field of eleven horses. This is a CUN condition, open to colts, geldings, and entires. The eleven-horse field is the largest on the card and creates significant pace complexity at a mile on the turf. Two co-favorites share the 2-1 morning line in CUPID’S DUDE (3) and SOULMATE (10), with TORO FORWARD (11) at 3-1 as the third choice.

Pace Analysis

Eleven horses at a mile on the turf will typically result in a filed-out early pace as horses settle into their lanes around the first turn. Cupid's Dude (3) from the Bennett barn likely has tactical speed, while Soulmate (10) from the outside could be more of a closer. Toro Forward (11) at 3-1 from the extreme outside post on the turf is at a positional disadvantage but may be talented enough to overcome it. Remerton (1) from the rail could try to steal the pace. With this many horses, a moderate pace at the mile on turf is the most likely scenario, which should set up for stalkers and pace-pressing types.

Key Contenders

Cupid's Dude (3) at 2-1 is trained by Gerald S. Bennett and ridden by Samuel Marin. Bennett's fourth entry on today's card and Marin's seventh ride shows how dominant this combination is on the Tampa card. The 3-post on the turf at 1760f is an excellent position, allowing this horse to secure a stalking position early without using energy. If Cupid's Dude (3) is Bennett's top turf horse for today, this is a high-confidence selection.

Soulmate (10) at 2-1 is trained by Michael W. Wright and ridden by J.C. Ferrer. Ferrer's experience on the Tampa turf is significant, and the 10-post at the mile distance means this horse will need to settle early and find running room around the turn. At 2-1 from outside, there is a positional concern, but Ferrer's ability to navigate traffic at Tampa is well established.

Secondary Choices

Toro Forward (11) at 3-1 from trainer David VanWinkle with Wesley Ho up draws the 11-post, the worst post in an eleven-horse turf field. Despite the positional disadvantage, the 3-1 price suggests the market sees genuine ability here. Ho is capable of rating a horse patiently on the turf, and if Toro Forward (11) can save ground around the far turn, a closing run is possible.

Guapo Again (6) at 4-1 from trainer Michael V. Simone with Sonny Leon up is from the mid-field 6-post. Leon's ability to read the pace and find a favorable path gives Guapo Again (6) an edge over similarly priced rivals. Simone also enters Super Tiz (2) in this race at 20-1, making Guapo Again (6) the stable's preferred runner.

Longshots

Drama Chorus (5) at 8-1 from trainer Tim Padilla with Alonso Quinonez up draws the 5-post, a solid mid-field position in an eleven-horse turf field. Quinonez has been active at this meet and Drama Chorus (5) at 8-1 is a legitimate trifecta consideration.

Midnight Onyx (9) at 12-1 from trainer Anthony J. Granitz with Cesar Gonzalez up is a mid-range longshot from the 9-post. On turf at a mile, the 9-post is outside but manageable. Midnight Onyx (9) has trifecta appeal if the pace collapses.

Remerton (1) at 5-1 from trainer Jose M. Castro with Cipriano Gil up draws the rail in a turf route. The rail at 1760f on Tampa's turf can be an asset for a horse that can secure the lead and control the pace from a comfortable position. Gil is capable of using the inside rail to its maximum advantage, and 5-1 from the 1-post is worth a closer look.

Super Tiz (2) at 20-1 is the secondary Simone entry. With Sonny Leon on Guapo Again (6), Super Tiz (2) with Israel O. Rodriguez is clearly the barn's second horse. Pass in win wagering.

Latin Spice (4) at 30-1 from trainer Jeffrey A. Poole with Sara Hess up is a throwout.

New Plex (7) at 30-1 from trainer Luis Fernando Gonzalez with Manny Jimenez up has little appeal at this price in an eleven-horse field.

El Bailador (8) at 30-1 from trainer Carlos Munoz with Joseph Trejos up is a longshot pass.

Selections

Win: Cupid's Dude (3) Place: Guapo Again (6) Show: Soulmate (10)

Betting Strategy: With eleven horses, the trifecta and superfecta are the primary wagering vehicles. Key Cupid's Dude (3) on top with Soulmate (10), Guapo Again (6), and Toro Forward (11) for exacta coverage. In trifectas, use Cupid's Dude (3) over Soulmate (10) and Guapo Again (6) over Drama Chorus (5), Midnight Onyx (9), and Remerton (1). Remerton (1) at 5-1 from the rail is an excellent trifecta saver.

Race 8 is the day’s richest event at $55,500, an optional claiming race at $16,000 for horses that have not won two races this year, going 1870f on the Tapeta main track. This longer distance on the synthetic surface tests stamina and resolves. Seven horses entered, with PAYNTER’S PRODIGY (6) at 2-1 as the morning line favorite and AMERICAN UNITY (3) at 3-1 as the second choice.

Pace Analysis

At 1870f, the stamina demand is significant on any surface. With seven horses and a range of tactical styles likely represented, the pace is expected to be moderate early with a genuine test of staying power in the final quarter-mile. Paynter's Prodigy (6) at 2-1 likely has the class to control his own destiny in the race, while American Unity (3) at 3-1 could be a pressing type from the 3-post. Stone Cold Flex (2) and Good As He Gets (7) at 4-1 are the mid-priced alternatives. A slow early pace would benefit the speed-sided horses, while a contested early pace sets up the closers.

Key Contenders

Paynter's Prodigy (6) at 2-1 is trained by Enrique Hernandez and ridden by Hector Rafael Diaz Jr. from the 6-post. As the morning line favorite in the day's richest race, Paynter's Prodigy (6) clearly has the best recent form or class in this field. The 6-post in a seven-horse field at 1870f is workable for a horse with tactical flexibility. Hernandez's choice of Diaz Jr. for this key assignment suggests confidence in the rider-trainer partnership.

American Unity (3) at 3-1 is trained by Reynaldo Yanez and ridden by Israel O. Rodriguez from the 3-post. Rodriguez is riding a strong book today and his ability to guide a horse at 1870f on the Tapeta is well established. The 3-post in a seven-horse route is excellent for a pressing type. At 3-1, this horse is the primary threat to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Stone Cold Flex (2) at 4-1 is trained by Victor Carrasco Jr. and ridden by Gabriel Maldonado from the 2-post. The 2-post in a long route is an ideal stalking position, and Maldonado is a capable route rider. At 4-1, Stone Cold Flex (2) represents the best mid-price value in this race.

Good As He Gets (7) at 4-1 from trainer Michael V. Simone with Cipriano Gil up draws the outside post in the seven-horse field. Simone has runners in three races today, and his confidence in Good As He Gets (7) at the 4-1 price and with an experienced rider suggests this horse is capable. The outside post at 1870f means this horse will need to find its way early, but closers can overcome outside posts in long routes.

Longshots

Texas Splurge (1) at 6-1 is trained by Daisy K. Olivo and ridden by D.E. Centeno from the rail. At 6-1 in a seven-horse optional claiming route, this price is not quite in the longshot category, but Centeno's ability to nurse a horse from the inside rail over a longer distance is an asset. If the pace gets hot early, Texas Splurge (1) could close ground in the final stretch.

Escape Key (5) at 8-1 from trainer Ramon Aguayo with Samuel Marin up gets the benefit of the card's most-booked jockey, which is a mild positive, but 8-1 in this field suggests there are form or class concerns that the handicapper should respect.

Bourbon State (4) at 15-1 from trainer Alejandro Olais Mendieta with Sonny Leon up is the longest shot in the race. Even with Leon's skills, the 15-1 price reflects significant form deficits compared to the top four horses in this field.

Selections

Win: Paynter's Prodigy (6) Place: American Unity (3) Show: Stone Cold Flex (2)

Betting Strategy: Key Paynter's Prodigy (6) on top in exactas with American Unity (3) and Stone Cold Flex (2). Good As He Gets (7) at 4-1 from Simone should be included in trifectas as a third-place finisher alongside Stone Cold Flex (2). In the $55,500 purse race, exacta payoffs should be modest given the clustered pricing, so trifecta wagering offers better value. A $0.50 trifecta box of Paynter's Prodigy (6), American Unity (3), and Stone Cold Flex (2) is a reasonable base bet.

RACE 9 — Post (4:48)/3:48/2:48/1:48 — 1760f | T | C | Clm 25000n2l | BUM | Purse $22,500

The finale is a turf route at 1760f for a $25,000 claiming price restricted to horses that have not won two races on turf in their lifetime. The field of twelve is the second-largest on the card and includes horses with diverse form patterns. Opera De Ravel (9) at 2-1 is the lone favorite in this twelve-horse field.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

Twelve horses at 1760f on the turf creates a complex early pace scenario. Opera De Ravel (9) at 2-1 is the clear class, and depending on this horse's preferred running style, the race shapes around her position. Lady Frost (1) from the inside with Manny Jimenez up could press or lead. Cocktail Kisses (7) at 6-1 and Caravaggio's Song (6) at 4-1 are the mid-price alternatives that could be pace-pressing types. In a twelve-horse turf route at a mile, a moderate early pace with a genuine stretch run is the most likely scenario.

Key Contenders

Opera De Ravel (9) at 2-1 is trained by Juan Arriagada and ridden by Hector Rafael Diaz Jr., who also has the mount on Paynter's Prodigy (6) in Race 8. Diaz Jr. handling both the Race 8 and Race 9 key horses suggests his card today is loaded with live mounts. The 9-post in a twelve-horse turf field is a middle-outside position, which is workable if this horse has tactical speed or a powerful late kick. At 2-1 in a twelve-horse field, this horse commands respect.

Caravaggio's Song (6) at 4-1 is trained by John I. Pimental and ridden by Samuel Marin from the 6-post. The 6-post in a turf route with twelve horses is an ideal inside-middle position, and Marin's workload on this card has kept him among the busiest riders all afternoon. If Caravaggio's Song (6) can track the pace and find clear running room around the turn, this horse is the primary alternative at 4-1.

Secondary Choices

Lady Frost (1) at 4-1 draws the rail post with Manny Jimenez up from trainer Ron G. Potts Jr. The inside post in a twelve-horse turf route at 1760f is a true double-edged proposition: the horse can save ground on every turn but risks being trapped behind a wall of horses. At 4-1 with the rail, Lady Frost (1) must break alertly and establish a clear path early. Jimenez is not the most prominent rider on this card, but the positional advantage of the rail makes this horse a legitimate value.

Cocktail Kisses (7) at 6-1 is trained by S. Matthew Kintz and ridden by Gaddiel A. Martinez from the 7-post. The 7-post in a turf route with twelve horses is a comfortable outside-middle position, and Martinez has been one of the more active jockeys on today's card. At 6-1, Cocktail Kisses (7) represents a value play in both exactas and trifectas.

Phoebeinwonderland (3) at 5-1 from trainer Jose A. Gallegos with Wesley Ho up draws the favorable 3-post in the turf route. At 5-1, this horse is a legitimate secondary option that deserves inclusion in exotics. The 3-post allows for a comfortable stalking position inside the midfield.

Longshots

Madam Prosecutor (10) at 8-1 from O'Connell with Sonny Leon is a live longshot. O'Connell's horses have been consistent at this meet and Leon's skills on the turf are well documented. The 10-post is outside, but if the pace develops favorably, Madam Prosecutor (10) could close from off the pace.

Power And Glory (11) at 12-1 from trainer Glenn R. Thompson with Sara Hess up draws the 11-post, one of the most disadvantaged positions in a twelve-horse turf field. At 12-1, use only as a deep trifecta or superfecta filler.

Backseat Romance (2) at 30-1 from trainer Patrick B. McBurney with Cipriano Gil up is an extreme longshot. McBurney also enters Madam Prosecutor (10) in this race, and with Leon on that horse, Backseat Romance (2) is clearly the barn's secondary entry.

D Dolly's Girl (4) at 30-1 from trainer Douglas Jones and Gabriel Maldonado has the same trainer as D Orbie's Girl (6) in Race 1. Jones is a quiet operation at Tampa and this price reflects the limited expectations.

Wickedthiswaycomes (5) at 20-1 from Kevin Rice with Israel O. Rodriguez is a mild curiosity given Rodriguez's solid day, but 20-1 in a competitive twelve-horse field suggests significant form deficits.

Knowledge Is Good (8) at 30-1 from Simone with Cesar Gonzalez up is the fourth Simone entry of the day. At 30-1, this horse is a throwout.

Opera De Ravel (9) is the favorite as noted above.

Michaela (12) at 30-1 from trainer Terri Pompay with Gaddiel A. Martinez up draws the outside 12-post in a twelve-horse turf field. The outside post is among the most penalizing positions on the Tampa turf, and 30-1 reflects that. Pass entirely.

Selections

Win: Opera De Ravel (9) Place: Caravaggio's Song (6) Show: Phoebeinwonderland (3)

Betting Strategy: Key Opera De Ravel (9) on top in exactas with Caravaggio's Song (6), Lady Frost (1), and Cocktail Kisses (7). In trifectas, use Opera De Ravel (9) over Caravaggio's Song (6) and Lady Frost (1) over Phoebeinwonderland (3) and Cocktail Kisses (7). Madam Prosecutor (10) at 8-1 with Leon is a legitimate trifecta inclusion given O'Connell's strong meet record.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Samuel Marin leads the board with seven mounts on today's card, appearing in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9. His connections include the Gerald S. Bennett barn (multiple times), Kathleen O'Connell, and others. At this volume of rides, Marin is clearly the dominant rider at this meet. His most notable assignments today are Take Dat (8) in Race 3 for the Bennett barn and Cupid's Dude (3) in Race 7. Bettors should pay close attention to which horses Marin goes hardest on in the stretch, as his effort level can signal trainer confidence.

Israel O. Rodriguez rides five horses today across Races 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9. His key assignments are Fistfulofmoney (2) in Race 4 and American Unity (3) in Race 8. Rodriguez is one of the most consistent riders at Tampa and his heavy book today suggests multiple live horses.

Sonny Leon rides in Races 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. His standout assignment is All The Luck (5) in Race 6, where he could provide value at 3-1 against the morning line favorite. Leon's ability to read pace in longer routes and turf events makes him a dangerous rider on the back half of the card.

Hector Rafael Diaz Jr. is limited to two mounts—Paynter's Prodigy (6) in Race 8 and Opera De Ravel (9) in Race 9—but both are morning line favorites in their respective events. This is the profile of a jockey reserved for the card's best horses, and both selections should be treated with respect.

J.C. Ferrer rides three times today in Races 2, 5, and 7. A veteran of multiple circuits, Ferrer's experience on the turf is a distinct asset, particularly in Soulmate (10) in Race 7 and Perfect Twirl (6) in Race 5.

D.E. Centeno picks up mounts in Races 1, 5, and 8, with Silver Juani (4) in Race 5 being the most interesting assignment at 4-1.

Gaddiel A. Martinez has an active book in Races 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. His assignments include Cocktail Kisses (7) in Race 9, which is a legitimate value play at 6-1.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Gerald S. Bennett is the dominant trainer presence today with entries in Races 1, 2, 3, and 7, fielding Lookin Lovely (2) and R Skyline (4) in Race 1, Mama Drama (1) in Race 2, Take Dat (8) in Race 3, and Cupid's Dude (3) in Race 7. The Bennett stable's decision to book Samuel Marin on nearly all of its primary horses is a reliable tell of which runners the barn favors. Take Dat (8) at 1-1 in Race 3 and Cupid's Dude (3) at 2-1 in Race 7 are the barn's two most likely winners on the card.

Kathleen O'Connell is equally active, entering horses in Races 2, 3, 6, and 9 through Countless Dreams (3), Seeking Serenity (5), Madam Prosecutor (10), and the scratched or other entries. O'Connell's ability to place horses at appropriate levels and her consistent meet statistics make her runners worth extra attention. Countless Dreams (3) in Race 2 is the top O'Connell selection of the day.

Michael V. Simone runs in Races 7, 8, and 9, entering Super Tiz (2) and Guapo Again (6) in Race 7, Good As He Gets (7) in Race 8, and Knowledge Is Good (8) in Race 9. The Simone stable at Tampa has shown consistency at claiming and optional claiming levels, and Guapo Again (6) at 4-1 in Race 7 with Sonny Leon is the stable's best chance on the card.

Kevin Rice appears in Races 4, 5, and 9 with Fistfulofmoney (2), Tiz Her Law (2), and Wickedthiswaycomes (5). Rice's best horse today appears to be Fistfulofmoney (2) in Race 4, where he deploys the in-form Rodriguez.

Tena Birdwell doubles up in Races 2 and 6 with the La Gata Salvaje (5)/Queen Atlas (6) combination and Sweet Independance (2). The jockey assignments indicate Queen Atlas (6) is the preferred Birdwell runner in Race 2 while Sweet Independance (2) is a deep longshot in Race 6.

Joseph F. Orseno enters both Devilment (6) and Bernardo's Legacy (9) in Race 6. The 4-1 shared price on both horses, with different jockeys, makes it difficult to determine the stable's primary horse. Both deserve inclusion in exotics.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best value opportunities on today's Tampa Bay Downs card are concentrated in the middle and late portions of the program, where purse sizes are highest and field sizes create genuine exotic payoff potential.

Pick 4 (Races 6–9): The late Pick 4 spanning Races 6 through 9 is the most attractive sequence on the card. Using Patriot Bluechip (1) in Race 6, Cupid's Dude (3) in Race 7, Paynter's Prodigy (6) in Race 8, and Opera De Ravel (9) in Race 9 as your primary horses gives you a clean single-horse ticket. The value ticket is to double or triple up in Race 6 by adding All The Luck (5) alongside Patriot Bluechip (1), and to add American Unity (3) alongside Paynter's Prodigy (6) in Race 8. A $0.50 Pick 4 structure of (1,5) x (3) x (6,3) x (9) provides reasonable coverage at a manageable cost.

Pick 3 (Races 7–9): The closing Pick 3 offers exceptional trifecta-style value in a three-race sequence. Using Cupid's Dude (3) and Guapo Again (6) in Race 7, Paynter's Prodigy (6) and American Unity (3) in Race 8, and Opera De Ravel (9) and Caravaggio's Song (6) in Race 9 creates a reasonable two-by-two-by-two combination at $0.50 per combination.

Best Single Value Play of the Day: All The Luck (5) at 3-1 in Race 6 with Sonny Leon deserves a straight win bet consideration. In a ten-horse maiden field where Patriot Bluechip (1) at 2-1 will absorb the majority of the win pool, getting 3-1 on a horse trained by a skilled conditioner with one of the card's best jockeys represents a genuine edge. If Patriot Bluechip (1) encounters any traffic from the rail in a ten-horse field, All The Luck (5) from the 5-post has a clear lane to the wire.

Best Trifecta Race: Race 7 with eleven horses on the turf at 1760f offers the richest potential trifecta payoff of the day. Using Cupid's Dude (3) on top with Soulmate (10), Guapo Again (6), and Toro Forward (11) across the second position and Drama Chorus (5), Midnight Onyx (9), and Remerton (1) in third creates a 12-combination trifecta at $1 that could return triple-digit payoffs if any of the longshots fill the third spot.

Exacta Value Play: In Race 5, the exacta combining Dunloe (1) and Silver Juani (4) at 4-1 should pay a competitive price despite both being at relatively short morning line odds, since the two 2-1 morning line favorites splitting the pool leaves Silver Juani (4) slightly underbet in the exacta. This combination represents a fair overlay relative to the morning line pricing structure.

Avoid: Race 3 with a 1-1 favorite and Race 1 with two 2-1 co-favorites in a six-horse field offer little exotic value. These races are best approached through single-race exacta boxes of the top two or three horses, keeping dollar investments minimal and focusing bankroll on the richer exotics later in the card.
