THISTLEDOWN RACE DAY OVERVIEW — MAY 4, 2026

Thistledown Racetrack in North Randall, Ohio opens its Monday card with eight races spanning a variety of conditions, from rock-bottom $5,000 maiden claimers to $34,000 optional claimers at the top of the afternoon. The card represents a fairly typical late spring Monday at TDN — a blue-collar, no-nonsense Ohio track that rewards handicappers who do their homework on local barn form, pace dynamics, and the peculiarities of the Thistledown main track. Today's card leans heavily toward claiming and maiden claiming company, with the lone allowance in Race 7 serving as the day's marquee event.

Several connections appear multiple times throughout the card. The Skerrett barn, with trainer Jeffrey Skerrett and jockey Jefferson Skerrett, saddles horses in Races 1, 2, and 8. Trainer Nestor Rivera sends out two horses in Race 3, and trainer Richard Zielinski fields two horses in Race 4. The Meyers/Rivera and Johnson/Skerrett connections each appear in Race 7. Luis Alberto Batista and Anthony Rodriguez are among the busiest riders today, each appearing on multiple mounts across the card.

Post times run from 12:50 PM ET through 4:20 PM ET. The surface for all eight races is dirt (D), with distances ranging from 1,210 feet (approximately six furlongs) to 1,760 feet (approximately seven furlongs). Conditions span maiden special weight, maiden claiming, straight claiming, and allowance categories. The total purse money distributed today exceeds $177,000.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS — MAY 4, 2026

Northeast Ohio in early May can present a wide range of conditions, and the Cleveland metro area, where Thistledown sits, is prone to rapid weather changes off Lake Erie. For this Monday card, conditions are expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit by post time. Wind is forecast from the northwest at approximately 10–15 mph, which can affect pace dynamics slightly on the far turn at Thistledown, particularly in route races where horses are turning into the home stretch.

There is no significant precipitation expected for the afternoon, and the main track is anticipated to be rated fast. Thistledown's dirt surface drains reasonably well after rain, and with no weekend storms of note, the strip should be consistent from rail to five paths wide. Any late-morning maintenance reports would be critical, but absent fresh harrowing or wet patches, expect a firm, consistent surface.

TRACK BIAS AND POST POSITION ANALYSIS

Thistledown is a five-eighths-mile oval, compact and tight with short stretch runs. These physical characteristics have historically favored horses that can secure early positioning close to the pace, particularly in sprint distances. The inside posts at today's distances can be advantageous if a horse can break cleanly and secure the rail, but the rail at Thistledown can play dead at times if the inside path has not been refreshed or if horses have been running near the fence all day.

In sprint races (six furlongs, approximately 1,210 feet), posts one through four are generally neutral to slightly favorable at Thistledown, provided the horse breaks alertly. In today's route distances (1,760 feet, approximately seven furlongs), the outside posts face a slightly longer run to the first turn, and horses breaking from posts six through eight or nine need to use some early energy to secure position before the first bend. Early speed horses from the outside posts often get into trouble or use up too much ground in route races.

The inside speed bias at this track has been well-documented by Ohio-based handicappers. On a fast track, front-runners and horses that rate just off the pace in the two-path frequently hold on. Closers can get up at Thistledown, but they typically need a hot early pace and a field that sets up for a stretch rally. In maiden claimer routes where the early fractions are often slow, closers are at a particular disadvantage.

Post position edge for today: In sprint races, posts two through five offer the clearest path to early positioning. In route races (Races 1 and 3), posts one through four have a slight edge based on historical bias. Posts seven and above in the routes deserve some caution.

RACE 1 — Post 12:50 PM ET — 1760f | D | C | Clm 5000n1y | BUN | Purse $12,200

This is a seven-furlong maiden special condition claiming event at the $5,000 level for horses that have not won a race in the past year. The field of seven goes to the gate in the first race of the day. At the $5,000 claiming level in a non-winner-in-one-year condition, the competition is at the absolute basement of the Thistledown class ladder. Horses in this spot are either chronically troubled, returning from layoffs, or struggling to string together consistent efforts. Finding a legitimate standout requires poring through recent running lines and spotting horses that have shown any consistent pattern.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

The seven-furlong distance at Thistledown means the field will travel roughly one and a quarter laps of the tight oval. Pace figures at this class level are modest, but the opening quarter and half-mile fractions will still shape the outcome. This field has multiple potential front-runners, and if early speed duplicates, the pace could collapse enough to allow front-runners to coast home. Succession Gold (POST 1) and Law Of The Jungle (POST 6) are likely to contest the early lead, while Sight Unseen (POST 3) may also have tactical early speed. If two or three of these horses fight it out up front, it opens the door for a presser or closer to steal a piece. Expect an opening quarter somewhere in the :24–:25 range at this class level.

Key Contenders

Sight Unseen (POST 3) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite, suggesting handicappers and the program expect this horse to be the class of the field. Trained by Kevin Ray and piloted by Rocco Bowen, Sight Unseen (POST 3) draws the three-hole, which is a clean position at seven furlongs at Thistledown. Bowen is a competent rider in the Ohio circuit and should handle the seven-furlong test without issue. The morning line support at 2-1 in a seven-horse field of this caliber indicates the horse has shown enough consistent form to justify favoritism.

Law Of The Jungle (POST 6) at 4-1 on the morning line is trained by Ivan Calderon and draws the six-hole under Jose A. Bracho. A six-post in a seven-furlong route at Thistledown means Law Of The Jungle (POST 6) faces a slightly longer run to the first turn. Bracho is a regular Thistledown rider and will need to decide quickly whether to push forward or sit and wait. The 4-1 price suggests this horse has some credibility but faces a question about early positioning.

Candy Crushem (POST 2) at 3-1 breaks from the two-hole under L.A. Gonzalez for trainer Valerie Shanyfelt. The two-post in a route is among the most advantageous at this track, allowing a horse to settle in ideal position near the fence. At 3-1, Candy Crushem (POST 2) is the second choice on the morning line, reflecting solid recent form.

Secondary Choices

Succession Gold (POST 1) opens at 4-1 for trainer Joshua Langley under Luis Alberto Batista. The rail post at seven furlongs is acceptable if the horse breaks cleanly and avoids traffic issues. Batista is one of the more active and capable riders on today's card. Succession Gold (POST 1) shares the 4-1 price with Law Of The Jungle (POST 6) and is a legitimate contender.

Auld Lange Syne (POST 5) at 6-1 is trained by Amy Sondej and ridden by Anthony Rodriguez. This is a horse that could be overlooked if the pace collapses, but at 6-1, there is some value if the front-runners soften each other.

Longshots

Agnello's Dream (POST 4) at 10-1 is the trainer/jockey combo of Jeffrey and Jefferson Skerrett. At this level, the Skerrett connection should never be dismissed, as they know their horses' conditions intimately. The 10-1 price may be an overlay if this horse has shown recent life in workouts.

Royally Flushed (POST 7) at 15-1 is the second Sondej runner in the race, breaking from the outside post. At seven furlongs, the seven-hole presents the longest trip to the first turn, and at 15-1, Royally Flushed (POST 7) would need everything to go right. Best used in superfectas only.

Betting Strategy

Sight Unseen (POST 3) is the logical single at 2-1, but the price is thin. Candy Crushem (POST 2) at 3-1 represents the best value given the post position advantage. A win parlay combining Candy Crushem (POST 2) and Sight Unseen (POST 3) in exactas both ways opens the race at a reasonable cost. Use Succession Gold (POST 1) and Auld Lange Syne (POST 5) underneath in trifectas.

Selections

Win: Candy Crushem (POST 2) Place: Sight Unseen (POST 3) Show: Succession Gold (POST 1)

RACE 2 — Post 1:20 PM ET — 1210f | D | M | Md 5000 | BUN | Purse $11,300

A six-furlong maiden $5,000 claimer for non-winners, this race draws a field of seven and is the cheapest maiden contest on the card. The $5,000 maiden claiming level at Thistledown is the entry point for horses that have struggled repeatedly to break their maiden. Connections have decided the price of entry is appropriate to get some black type on the board. Finding a maiden winner here often comes down to identifying the horse with the most recent and relevant experience at this specific level.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Six furlongs on the Thistledown dirt. The track's compact size means this distance runs out of the gate, around one bend, and into the stretch with limited real estate for closers to pick up ground. Gunn's Roar (POST 5) at 2-1 is likely the horse handicappers expect to set or press the pace, and if he gets away cleanly from the five-hole, he can establish a comfortable position near the lead. Enzito (POST 4) at 3-1 may also show early foot. If both of these horses contest the early pace, the fractions could be quick enough to set up a closer, but at this class level, pace often compresses and front-runners hold on.

Key Contenders

Gunn's Roar (POST 5) is the morning line favorite at 2-1, trained by Jeff Radosevich and ridden by Joshua J. Radosevich — a clear trainer/jockey family combo that speaks to intimate knowledge of the horse. When a trainer puts up a family member as rider, it typically signals confidence in the horse's readiness. The five-hole is workable in a six-furlong sprint, and at 2-1, this horse is expected to be on or near the front.

Enzito (POST 4) at 3-1 is trained by Jeffrey Skerrett and ridden by Jefferson Skerrett, the same family connection that appears multiple times today. Enzito (POST 4) draws the four-post, which is solid in a six-furlong sprint. The Skerrett-on-Skerrett angle carries weight at this level.

Trouble Or Nothin (POST 2) at 4-1 is trained by Saul M. Morales and ridden by Noel Vigil. The two-hole is favorable in a sprint, and at 4-1, Trouble Or Nothin (POST 2) presents some value if Gunn's Roar (POST 5) fails to reproduce.

Secondary Choices

Union Swag (POST 3) at 5-1 is trained by Gary L. Johnson and ridden by Mauro Cedillo. The three-post is clean in a sprint, and Union Swag (POST 3) at 5-1 is a mild overlay that could hit the board if pace dynamics set up favorably.

Go Collector (POST 7) at 6-1 is trained by Rey Juarez-Mendoza and ridden by Luis Alberto Batista. The outside post in a six-furlong sprint at Thistledown is a disadvantage, as the horse must use energy early to find position. However, Batista is capable of making the most of a tough draw. At 6-1, there is some value here.

Longshots

Orb City (POST 6) at 8-1 is trained by Ivan Vazquez and ridden by Anthony Rodriguez. The six-hole is a concern in this sprint, but Rodriguez's experience gives Orb City (POST 6) a chance to find a spot if the field spreads wide.

Kei (POST 1) at 15-1 is the second Skerrett barn entry in this race, breaking from the rail. Kei (POST 1) at 15-1 could benefit from a clean inside trip, but the price suggests limited recent form. Use minimally in exotics.

Betting Strategy

The Radosevich trainer-rider combo on Gunn's Roar (POST 5) is a legitimate angle. The 2-1 price is short but justified. Enzito (POST 4) at 3-1 is the primary alternative given another strong trainer-jockey family connection. A key exacta box of Gunn's Roar (POST 5) and Enzito (POST 4) is the core play, with Trouble Or Nothin (POST 2) added in trifecta coverage.

Selections

Win: Gunn's Roar (POST 5) Place: Enzito (POST 4) Show: Trouble Or Nothin (POST 2)

RACE 3 — Post 1:50 PM ET — 1760f | D | C | Clm 12500b | BUM | Purse $16,600

Seven furlongs for fillies and mares in a $12,500 claiming race with a buy-back provision. This is a notch above the Race 1 conditions, and the field of eight includes two entries from the Rivera barn, making Worldly Beauty (POST 1) and Lubu (POST 4) stable mates who may set up the race for each other. The purse of $16,600 is meaningful at this level, and connections will be motivated. The buy-back provision (b) means horses can be entered in the next race back at the same or higher claiming price.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Eight horses over seven furlongs. Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) at 2-1 and Curls Nite Out (POST 7) at 3-1 are the morning line choices, suggesting speed and tactical ability near the top of the field. The inside posts — Worldly Beauty (POST 1) and Ceviche (POST 2) — may also show early foot. A contentious early pace in a route for fillies and mares at the $12,500 level often results in a presser or deep closer catching the tiring leaders in the final sixteenth. Watch for any horse that can rate three to five lengths off the pace through the first half-mile and then kick at the quarter-pole.

Key Contenders

Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) at 2-1 is trained by Anthony Farrior and ridden by L.R. Rivera. Despite the outside post (eight-hole) in a seven-furlong route, the morning line support at 2-1 is strong, reflecting confidence in this filly's ability to overcome the post position disadvantage. Farrior-trained horses at this level deserve respect when they draw heavy support. Rivera is a regular presence at Thistledown.

Curls Nite Out (POST 7) at 3-1 is trained by Robert C. Cline and ridden by Victor R. Fernandez. The seven-post in a route is an outside draw, but Curls Nite Out (POST 7) at 3-1 is clearly expected to be a primary factor. Cline is a reliable Thistledown conditioner, and Fernandez provides capable handling.

Worldly Beauty (POST 1) at 4-1 is trained by Nestor R. Rivera and ridden by Alexis Centeno. The rail post at seven furlongs is a significant advantage for a front-runner or a horse that can secure the lead without a fight. As a stable mate of Lubu (POST 4), Worldly Beauty (POST 1) could benefit if the pace sets up for either horse.

Secondary Choices

Lubu (POST 4) at 5-1 is the second Rivera entry, ridden by Alexander Chavez. The four-post is solid in a route, and Lubu (POST 4) at 5-1 could represent a value angle if Worldly Beauty (POST 1) controls the early pace and softens things for her barn mate.

My Cajun Lady (POST 5) at 6-1 is trained by Benny R. Feliciano and ridden by R. Feliciano — another family trainer/rider combination. My Cajun Lady (POST 5) at 6-1 with the rail-adjacent five-post could be worth a flyer, especially if the Feliciano connection has the horse sharp.

Longshots

Liberty Belle (POST 3) at 12-1 is trained by Michelle Winters and ridden by Erick Fuentes. The 12-1 price reflects limited expectation, but Liberty Belle (POST 3) at the three-post has a favorable position in a contentious field.

Late Nite Lizzie (POST 6) at 12-1 is trained by Rey Juarez-Mendoza and ridden by Jose A. Bracho. Another double-digit price that needs a perfect trip to factor. Use sparingly in superfectas.

Ceviche (POST 2) at 15-1 is the longshot of the race, trained by Tina Casalinova and ridden by Anthony Rodriguez. Rodriguez is capable of finding a soft trip from the two-hole, but at 15-1, the morning line suggests limited recent form.

Betting Strategy

The two-horse Rivera barn entry of Worldly Beauty (POST 1) and Lubu (POST 4) creates an interesting parimutuel situation. If both horses are wagered heavily, the win pool price on each may compress. Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) at 2-1 is the morning line choice and represents the class of the field. A key exacta using Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) on top with Worldly Beauty (POST 1) and Curls Nite Out (POST 7) underneath is the core play. Include My Cajun Lady (POST 5) in trifectas for value.

Selections

Win: Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) Place: Curls Nite Out (POST 7) Show: Worldly Beauty (POST 1)

RACE 4 — Post 2:20 PM ET — 1210f | D | M | Md 12500 | BUM | Purse $18,900

Six furlongs, maiden $12,500 for fillies and mares. The field of seven features a couple of co-favorites at 2-1, making this one of the most competitive maiden events on the card from a morning line perspective. Truest Air (POST 1) and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) share the favoritism. The Zielinski barn fields two horses — Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) — from the two and three posts, which is a formidable inside presence.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Six furlongs at Thistledown. The dual co-favorites suggest two legitimate horses are expected to dominate, but the six-furlong sprint on the tight oval means pace will be a central factor. With Truest Air (POST 1) from the rail and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) from the three-hole, both connected to strong morningline support, a contested pace is likely. If they run at each other early, a closer like Miz Biondetti (POST 4) or a stalker from outside could benefit.

Key Contenders

Truest Air (POST 1) at 2-1 is trained by Mike Rone and ridden by L.R. Rivera. The rail post in a six-furlong sprint is workable if the horse breaks alertly. Rivera is aboard and will be motivated to secure the lead or a comfortable pressing position. The 2-1 price signals clear class in this maiden field.

Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) at 2-1 is trained by Richard Zielinski and ridden by Fernando Salazar Becerra. Zielinski already has Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) in the race from the two-hole. With Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) at 2-1, Zielinski clearly believes this is the barn's stronger entry. The three-hole is advantageous in a sprint, and Salazar Becerra is a capable pilot.

Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) at 4-1 is the second Zielinski entry, ridden by Victor R. Fernandez. As a barn mate of Bobber's Rocket (POST 3), Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) could benefit if the race unfolds a certain way, but the 4-1 price suggests Zielinski has more confidence in Bobber's Rocket (POST 3).

Secondary Choices

Miz Biondetti (POST 4) at 5-1 is trained by Ivan Vazquez and ridden by Chelsey Keiser. The four-post is solid, and at 5-1, Miz Biondetti (POST 4) could represent value if the co-favorites run into each other early.

Count On Jane (POST 6) at 10-1 is trained by Richard L. Genovese and ridden by German Terraza. The six-hole in a sprint is a mild disadvantage, but at 10-1, Count On Jane (POST 6) warrants inclusion in trifecta and superfecta wagers.

Longshots

Oak Mirna (POST 5) at 12-1 is trained by Jose Atala and ridden by Anthony Rodriguez. Rodriguez brings experience to the 12-1 morning line price, but Oak Mirna (POST 5) is best used in superfecta coverage only.

Destiny's Tot (POST 7) at 12-1 is trained by Oscar Romero and ridden by Luis Alberto Batista. The outside post and long odds make Destiny's Tot (POST 7) a deep longshot, but Batista's talent keeps this horse in exotic consideration.

Betting Strategy

The Zielinski barn double entry of Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) from the two and three posts creates a significant wagering challenge. Handicappers need to decide which barn mate has the edge. The morning line favors Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) equally with Truest Air (POST 1) at 2-1. A key exacta box of Truest Air (POST 1) and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) is the primary play, with Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) and Miz Biondetti (POST 4) added in trifecta coverage.

Selections

Win: Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) Place: Truest Air (POST 1) Show: Mo Don't Stop (POST 2)

RACE 5 — Post 2:50 PM ET — 1320f | D | C | Clm 50000n4l | BUM | Purse $34,000

One mile on the dirt, optional claiming $50,000 for horses with no more than four wins lifetime, fillies and mares. This is among the better races on today's card in terms of class, with a $34,000 purse. Three morning line co-favorites at 2-1 — It's Browns Time (POST 1), Perfect Angel (POST 4), and Countess Colette (POST 5) — make this the most competitive betting race of the afternoon. The six-horse field keeps the exacta and trifecta pools manageable.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

One mile at Thistledown (1,320 feet, approximately two turns). With three co-favorites and a small field of six, the early pace dynamics will be crucial. It's Browns Time (POST 1) from the inside post under Chelsey Keiser is likely to be used early to establish position on the front end. At one mile on a tight oval, setting pace from the one-post is a significant advantage. If It's Browns Time (POST 1) can clear to the front without a sustained challenge, the tempo could moderate and allow this horse to control the race wire to wire.

Perfect Angel (POST 4) at 2-1 and Countess Colette (POST 5) at 2-1 likely have more tactical speed, running in the two-to-four length range off the leader. If all three co-favorites press each other, Hot Princess (POST 2) or Kiss Valentina (POST 3) could swoop late.

Key Contenders

It's Browns Time (POST 1) at 2-1 is trained by Robert Guciardo and ridden by Chelsey Keiser. The inside post at one mile is a clear advantage, particularly if this horse has tactical front-running speed. A horse named IT'S BROWNS TIME in a Cleveland-area track racing the week after the NFL Draft is a fun local angle, but it is the racing credentials that matter here. Keiser has been active on this card and knows the track.

Perfect Angel (POST 4) at 2-1 is trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Luis Alberto Batista. The four-hole at one mile is a solid, clean post. Batista is one of the top riders on today's card, and DaCosta-trained horses at the optional claimer level at Thistledown deserve serious consideration. Perfect Angel (POST 4) may be the most balanced of the three co-favorites.

Countess Colette (POST 5) at 2-1 is trained by Megan Fadlovich and ridden by Rocco Bowen. The five-post at one mile requires a bit of a run to the first turn, but Bowen is an experienced enough pilot to find a comfortable spot. Fadlovich is a capable Ohio conditioner, and Countess Colette (POST 5) at 2-1 rounds out a fascinating triple-dead-heat situation on the morning line.

Secondary Choices

Hot Princess (POST 2) at 8-1 is trained by Jacinto Lopez and ridden by Mauro Cedillo. At 8-1, Hot Princess (POST 2) is a genuine value play if the three co-favorites run into each other. The two-hole offers a clean trip, and CEDILLO is capable of rating this filly through a hot pace and producing a late run.

Perfect Date (POST 6) at 12-1 is trained by Joe M. Poole and ridden by Jose A. Bracho. The outside post at one mile is a challenge, but at 12-1, Perfect Date (POST 6) offers trifecta and superfecta value if the pace collapses the front end.

Longshots

Kiss Valentina (POST 3) at 12-1 is trained by Raquel A. Castro and ridden by Fernando Salazar Becerra. The 12-1 morning line reflects limited expectation, but Kiss Valentina (POST 3) from the three-hole could hit the board with a pace-aided performance.

Betting Strategy

With three horses at 2-1, the exacta pool will be heavily contested. The best value play is to key Hot Princess (POST 2) at 8-1 in exactas underneath one or two of the co-favorites, anticipating an upset or a co-favorite to close the second spot. A trifecta wheel using the three co-favorites on top with Hot Princess (POST 2) filling out is sound. Given the compressed odds, consider using Perfect Angel (POST 4) as the primary single given Batista's class and the clean four-post.

Selections

Win: Perfect Angel (POST 4) Place: It's Browns Time (POST 1) Show: Countess Colette (POST 5)

RACE 6 — Post 3:20 PM ET — 1320f | D | C | Clm 50000n4l | BUN | Purse $34,000

One mile, optional claiming $50,000 for horses that have not won four races, open (non-restricted). This mirrors Race 5 in conditions but is open to males. A deep field of nine makes this a more challenging wagering race, with the exacta and trifecta pools potentially offering better value than the smaller Race 5 field.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Nine horses at one mile on the Thistledown dirt. Ovid (POST 2) at 2-1 is the morning line choice and figures to be near the pace from a favorable post. With nine horses going two turns, pace dynamics are complex. Glory Reigns (POST 1) from the rail under Fernando Salazar Becerra may also show early speed. If multiple horses contest the lead, the mile distance at Thistledown's tight turns creates a scenario where deep closers can factor. Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) and Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) may be positioned as stalkers or closers.

Key Contenders

Ovid (POST 2) at 2-1 is trained by David Wolochuk and ridden by Chelsey Keiser. The two-post at one mile is among the best in a nine-horse field at this track. Wolochuk is a consistent Ohio conditioner, and Ovid (POST 2) carries the morning line favoritism confidently. Keiser appears on multiple mounts today and brings familiarity with current track conditions.

Glory Reigns (POST 1) at 4-1 is trained by Nicole Higham and ridden by Fernando Salazar Becerra. The rail post at one mile on a fast track at Thistledown is a legitimate advantage if Glory Reigns (POST 1) can break cleanly and establish position before the first turn. At 4-1, this is a clear overlay opportunity versus the favorite.

Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) at 4-1 is trained by Julie A. Pappada and ridden by Victor Severino. Sharing the 4-1 price with Glory Reigns (POST 1), Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) from the five-hole has a workable post in a nine-horse field. Pappada is a familiar name at Thistledown, and Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) figures as a tactical horse capable of pressing or rating.

Secondary Choices

Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) at 6-1 is trained by Richard Rettele and ridden by Anthony Rodriguez. The eight-hole in a nine-horse mile at Thistledown is a challenge, but Rodriguez is skilled at finding position from outside posts. At 6-1, Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) offers value in the exotics.

Mr. Redlegs (POST 4) at 8-1 is trained by Michael Evans II and ridden by Rolando Aragon. The four-hole is a clean draw at one mile, and at 8-1, Mr. Redlegs (POST 4) presents legitimate value if the pace scenario sets up for a closer.

Dreamingabouttime (POST 9) at 8-1 is trained by Edward Fernandez and ridden by Santiago Gonzalez. The nine-post is the most outside draw in the field. At one mile on a tight track, Dreamingabouttime (POST 9) will need early energy to find position or will have to settle extremely wide. The 8-1 price is interesting, but the post is a significant handicapping concern.

Longshots

Colonel Cooper (POST 3) at 12-1 is trained by Timothy Hamm and ridden by Rocco Bowen. The three-hole is favorable, and Bowen gives Colonel Cooper (POST 3) a competent pilot. At 12-1, this horse warrants superfecta consideration.

Run Red Run (POST 6) at 10-1 is trained by Robert C. Cline and ridden by Brandon Tapara. The six-hole at one mile is manageable, and CLINE is a proven Thistledown barn. At 10-1, Run Red Run (POST 6) is a mild overlay.

Marquitos M (POST 7) at 12-1 is trained by Richard Rettele and ridden by T.D. Houghton. The second Rettele entry alongside Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8). Marquitos M (POST 7) at 12-1 needs fortune to factor.

Betting Strategy

Ovid (POST 2) at 2-1 is the clear single, but the nine-horse field at one mile offers excellent exotic value. A key exacta using Ovid (POST 2) and Glory Reigns (POST 1) with Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) and Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) across the board creates a solid trifecta structure. Mr. Redlegs (POST 4) at 8-1 deserves inclusion in deeper exotics as a pace scenario beneficiary.

Selections

Win: Ovid (POST 2) Place: Glory Reigns (POST 1) Show: Last Minute Mikey (POST 5)

RACE 7 — Post 3:50 PM ET — 1210f | D | A | Alw 35800n1x | BUM | Purse $35,800

Six furlongs, allowance for non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter. Fillies and mares. This is the day's marquee event, an allowance condition that draws horses with legitimate upside. The purse of $35,800 is the highest of the day. The field of six features two morning line co-favorites at 2-1 — Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) and Instigation (POST 4).

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Six furlongs in a small allowance field of six. With two co-favorites from adjacent posts (two and four), and Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1, the early pace structure will be intense. Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) and Instigation (POST 4) likely both have the tactical speed to press or set the pace. Credit Check (POST 1) from the inside is another potential pace element. If the three potentially quick horses collapse each other through the opening quarter-mile, Parlay Charlie (POST 6) and Stick Around (POST 5) could be in prime position for a stretch run.

Key Contenders

Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) at 2-1 is trained by Gary L. Johnson and ridden by Jefferson Skerrett. The two-post in a six-furlong sprint is ideal. Johnson is one of the more active trainers at Thistledown, and Skerrett is the regular rider for several barn connections today. Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) at 2-1 in an allowance spot suggests this filly has demonstrated the class to run at this level.

Instigation (POST 4) at 2-1 is trained by Julie A. Pappada and ridden by Rocco Bowen. Pappada sends out Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) in Race 6 and Instigation (POST 4) in Race 7, showing active barn presence on the card. The four-post is clean in a sprint, and Bowen is a capable handler at this level. Instigation (POST 4) is the other co-favorite and deserves equal consideration.

Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1 is trained by Shane Meyers and ridden by R. Feliciano. The outside post in a six-horse sprint is a manageable disadvantage with a skilled rider. At 4-1, Parlay Charlie (POST 6) represents the best value in the race if the pace scenario works out. MEYERS has a second entry in Bourbon N Blush (POST 3), and having two horses in the race may allow for a tactical advantage.

Secondary Choices

Bourbon N Blush (POST 3) at 10-1 is trained by Shane Meyers and ridden by L.R. Rivera. As a barn mate of Parlay Charlie (POST 6), Bourbon N Blush (POST 3) at 10-1 could be a pace setter designed to set up the stable's other entry. At 10-1, Bourbon N Blush (POST 3) is worth a small ticket in exactas and trifectas.

Credit Check (POST 1) at 6-1 is trained by Richard Zielinski and ridden by Brandon Tapara. From the rail in a six-horse sprint, Credit Check (POST 1) at 6-1 has tactical appeal. Zielinski is active today with multiple entries, and Tapara is a capable rider at this level.

Longshots

Stick Around (POST 5) at 8-1 is trained by Saul M. Morales and ridden by Alexander Chavez. The five-post in a six-horse sprint at an allowance level is workable. At 8-1, Stick Around (POST 5) is a mild overlay if the pace collapses.

Betting Strategy

This is the race of the day for allowance betting. The co-favorite situation at 2-1 compresses the win prices, but the exacta and trifecta pools offer genuine value. Key Instigation (POST 4) as the primary single given Bowen's strong riding today. Use Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1 heavily in exactas and trifectas — the value here is clear. A trifecta wheel of Instigation (POST 4) and Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) on top with Parlay Charlie (POST 6) and Credit Check (POST 1) in the third spot provides wide coverage.

Selections

Win: Instigation (POST 4) Place: Saltmakeshersweet (POST 2) Show: Parlay Charlie (POST 6)

RACE 8 — Post 4:20 PM ET — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500b | BUN | Purse $14,400

Six furlongs, $7,500 claiming with buy-back provision, open (non-restricted). The card closes with an eight-horse claiming sprint. Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) at 2-1 is the clear morning line choice, and Zippin Gigi (POST 7) at 3-1 is the primary competition. This is a mid-level claiming sprint where class and recent form typically tell the story.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Eight horses at six furlongs in the finale. Multiple potential early speed horses are in this field. Big Amadeus (POST 1) from the rail under Jefferson Skerrett may want to show early, while Harbour Bridge (POST 4) under Luis Alberto Batista and Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) could also factor into the early pace. If multiple horses contest the front in a $7,500 claimer, the pace is likely to be faster than expected, setting up closers like Oleg (POST 6) and Zippin Gigi (POST 7) to come running late.

Key Contenders

Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) at 2-1 is trained by Benny R. Feliciano and ridden by R. Feliciano. Another family trainer/jockey combination, Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) at 2-1 is the clear favorite with a favorable three-post draw. Feliciano horses tend to run their best when the family connection is in the saddle, and the closing race of the day typically draws sharp form horses from active barns looking to end on a positive note.

Zippin Gigi (POST 7) at 3-1 is trained by Rey Juarez-Mendoza and ridden by Victor R. Fernandez. The seven-hole in a six-furlong sprint is a slight disadvantage, but Zippin Gigi (POST 7) at 3-1 is clearly expected to be a primary factor. Juarez-Mendoza has had runners throughout today's card, and this horse appears to be the barn's best chance of the day.

Oleg (POST 6) at 4-1 is trained by Anthony Farrior and ridden by L.R. Rivera. The six-hole in a sprint is workable, and Oleg (POST 6) at 4-1 is a legitimate contender. Farrior showed confidence in the Thistledown conditions with Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) in Race 3, and Oleg (POST 6) continues that barn presence in the finale.

Secondary Choices

Harbour Bridge (POST 4) at 5-1 is trained by Craig Sweeting and ridden by Luis Alberto Batista. At 5-1, Harbour Bridge (POST 4) from the favorable four-post with Batista in the irons is a legitimate value play. Batista has been active all day, and bringing him in for a $7,500 claimer suggests confidence in this horse's chance.

Bucket List (POST 2) at 8-1 is trained by Joseph P. Mahan and ridden by E. Paucar. The two-hole is one of the better posts in a sprint. At 8-1, Bucket List (POST 2) represents a longshot with favorable positioning.

Longshots

Logico (POST 8) at 10-1 is trained by Richard L. Genovese and ridden by Noel Vigil. The outside post in a six-furlong sprint is a disadvantage. Logico (POST 8) at 10-1 warrants superfecta consideration only.

Grand Bey (POST 5) at 12-1 is trained by Joe M. Poole and ridden by Joshua J. Radosevich. The five-post is workable, but the 12-1 price suggests Grand Bey (POST 5) has limited recent form. Superfecta coverage only.

Big Amadeus (POST 1) at 12-1 is trained by Jeffrey Skerrett and ridden by Jefferson Skerrett. The rail post with the family connection is always worth a minor consideration, but the 12-1 morning line reflects modest expectations. The Skerrett connection brings intimate horse knowledge, and Big Amadeus (POST 1) could surprise at a big price.

Betting Strategy

Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) at 2-1 with the Feliciano family connection is the strongest single of the race. An exacta pairing Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) and Zippin Gigi (POST 7) is the primary structure, with Oleg (POST 6) and Harbour Bridge (POST 4) filling trifecta coverage. At 5-1, Harbour Bridge (POST 4) with Batista offers the best value play in the race.

Selections

Win: Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) Place: Zippin Gigi (POST 7) Show: Oleg (POST 6)

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Luis Alberto Batista is the busiest rider on today's card, appearing in Races 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8. His mounts include the early action in the Race 1 route on Succession Gold (POST 1), Go Collector (POST 7) in Race 2, Perfect Angel (POST 4) in Race 5, and Harbour Bridge (POST 4) in Race 8. When a jockey is this active at a track, it typically indicates he is one of the recognized meet leaders. His ability to handle multiple trip styles — front-running, pressing, and closing — makes him a consistent presence in exacta and trifecta structures across the card.

Rocco Bowen appears in Races 1, 5, 6, and 7. His assignments on Sight Unseen (POST 3) in Race 1, Countess Colette (POST 5) in Race 5, Colonel Cooper (POST 3) in Race 6, and Instigation (POST 4) in Race 7 give him four live mounts with legitimate morning line prices. Instigation (POST 4) at 2-1 in the allowance is his top ride of the afternoon.

Anthony Rodriguez is active in Races 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8 on Auld Lange Syne (POST 5), Ceviche (POST 2), Orb City (POST 6), Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8), and Logico (POST 8) respectively. While none of his mounts today are heavy favorites, Rodriguez's ability to navigate traffic from various post positions makes him a key factor in exacta and trifecta combinations.

Jefferson Skerrett is the family-barn jockey for trainer Jeffrey Skerrett throughout the card, riding Agnello's Dream (POST 4) in Race 1, Enzito (POST 4) in Race 2, and Big Amadeus (POST 1) in Race 8. The family connection in a trainer/jockey dynamic is one of the strongest angles in claiming racing, as both the trainer and rider share intimate knowledge of the horse's condition and race plan.

L.R. Rivera rides Truest Air (POST 1) in Race 4 — the co-favorite — and has assignments in Race 3 on Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) and Race 7 on Bourbon N Blush (POST 3). Rivera's rides on the two morning line favorites in Races 3 and 4 make her a key jockey to follow in the afternoon's middle card.

Victor R. Fernandez pilots Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) in Race 4 and Zippin Gigi (POST 7) in Race 8, both horses with multiple-horse barn implications. Fernandez's clean riding style and familiarity with the Thistledown oval make him reliable in exacta combinations.

Chelsey Keiser rides three morning line favorites or co-favorites: It's Browns Time (POST 1) at 2-1 in Race 5, Ovid (POST 2) at 2-1 in Race 6, and Miz Biondetti (POST 4) at 5-1 in Race 4. A jockey with three co-favorites on the same card is in a strong position to finish the day with multiple wins. Her performance on It's Browns Time (POST 1) and Ovid (POST 2) will define her day.

Fernando Salazar Becerra is active in Races 3, 4, 5, and 6. His top rides are Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) at 2-1 in Race 4 and Glory Reigns (POST 1) at 4-1 in Race 6. Both are legitimate chances to collect in the win column during the second half of the card.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

The Skerrett barn (Jeffrey Skerrett, trainer) is the most active stable on today's card, entering horses in Races 1, 2, and 8. Having Kei (POST 1) and Enzito (POST 4) in Race 2, along with Agnello's Dream (POST 4) in Race 1 and Big Amadeus (POST 1) in Race 8, speaks to a well-stocked and active Thistledown operation. When Jeffrey Skerrett opts to ride Jefferson Skerrett — his apparent family member — in a claiming or maiden race, it typically signals genuine confidence in a horse's condition and race fitness.

Nestor R. Rivera fields two horses in Race 3 — Worldly Beauty (POST 1) and Lubu (POST 4). Dual entries from the same barn in a claiming route create interesting wagering implications. Bettors should watch the tote board for unusual wagering patterns between the two Rivera entries, as sharp money on one over the other can reveal the barn's true intention.

Richard Zielinski sends out Mo Don't Stop (POST 2) and Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) in Race 4 from adjacent posts. The fact that Bobber's Rocket (POST 3) is the lower-priced Zielinski entry (equal to the other co-favorite at 2-1) suggests the trainer considers it the stronger horse. Watch for any tote movement that separates the two horses as the wagering matures.

Shane Meyers has a double entry in Race 7 with Bourbon N Blush (POST 3) and Parlay Charlie (POST 6). The Meyers barn's presence in the allowance race with two horses suggests tactical awareness — Bourbon N Blush (POST 3) at 10-1 may be a pace-setting sacrifice designed to help Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1. This is a legitimate pace-setting angle in allowance company.

Richard Rettele has two entries in Race 6 with Marquitos M (POST 7) and Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8). Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) at 6-1 under Anthony Rodriguez is the more interesting of the two entries from a wagering perspective. Similar to the Zielinski and Rivera situations, watch for tote separation between the two Rettele horses.

Julie A. Pappada has horses in Race 6 with Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) and Race 7 with Instigation (POST 4). Instigation (POST 4) at 2-1 in the allowance is the feature ride, and if Last Minute Mikey (POST 5) runs creditably in Race 6, it speaks well of the barn's current form heading into the co-favorite assignment in Race 7.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The most compelling value angle on today's card is the combination of Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1 in Race 7 and Hot Princess (POST 2) at 8-1 in Race 5. Both horses are secondary prices in races dominated by multiple morning line co-favorites at 2-1, and both benefit from favorable scenarios if pace dynamics play out as projected.

The Pick 5 sequence (Races 4 through 8) is where the highest-value wager on today's card lives. The sequence runs: Race 4 (Md 12500, fillies and mares), Race 5 (Clm 50000n4l, fillies and mares), Race 6 (Clm 50000n4l, open), Race 7 (Alw 35800n1x, fillies and mares), Race 8 (Clm 7500b, open). A base Pick 5 ticket using key horses and alternates might look like this:

Race 4: BOBBER’S ROCKET (POST 3) and TRUEST AIR (POST 1)

Race 5: PERFECT ANGEL (POST 4) and IT’S BROWNS TIME (POST 1)

Race 6: OVID (POST 2) and GLORY REIGNS (POST 1)

Race 7: INSTIGATION (POST 4) and SALTMAKESHERSWEET (POST 2)

Race 8: COALMINER’S KITTEN (POST 3) and ZIPPIN GIGI (POST 7)

A two-by-two-by-two-by-two-by-two Pick 5 ticket produces 32 combinations. At a $0.50 base unit, this costs $16.00 and covers a realistic range of outcomes. Adding Parlay Charlie (POST 6) in Race 7 expands to a three-horse leg and increases cost but adds crucial value.

The best exacta value play of the day is in Race 7: Instigation (POST 4) over Parlay Charlie (POST 6). If Instigation (POST 4) wins at 2-1 and Parlay Charlie (POST 6) runs second at 4-1, the exacta payout in a mid-sized daily double pool at a minor track should return $15–$22 on a $2.00 ticket, offering fair value on a confident two-horse play.

In Race 6, the nine-horse field at one mile creates the largest trifecta pool of the card. A trifecta using Ovid (POST 2) and Glory Reigns (POST 1) on top with Last Minute Mikey (POST 5), Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8), and Mr. Redlegs (POST 4) across the board for third creates a $12.00 base structure at $0.50 per combination. This race has the potential for a healthy trifecta payoff if Mr. Redlegs (POST 4) or Sadie's Silver Kid (POST 8) at 6-1 and 8-1, respectively, fill the third slot.

The Race 3 and Race 5 daily double pairing of Ineedyoubabe (POST 8) and Perfect Angel (POST 4) is an efficient $2.00 play that links two races with clear morning line standouts and moderate win prices. If both score, the daily double return in the 8-to-12-range per dollar invested is reasonable.

For singles investment on the card, Coalminer's Kitten (POST 3) in Race 8 with the Feliciano family connection is the most defensible single of the day. The 2-1 morning line on a Thistledown claiming sprint with a family trainer-rider combo is a classic overlay-proof play for win bettors.

The best overall value play on the card remains Parlay Charlie (POST 6) at 4-1 in Race 7. In the best race of the day with the highest purse among today's claiming and allowance events, a horse that figures to benefit from a hot early pace, trained by a known Thistledown conditioner and ridden by a capable pilot, at 4-1 in a six-horse field, represents the most attractive risk-to-reward proposition of the afternoon.
