Fires when trouble codes (B=bumped, S=steadied, T=taken up, V=checked, O=off slowly, F=fell, D=ducked, L=lugged, U=unruly) appear in either the company line codes or trip comment from the most recent race, and the horse still finished 1st through 4th. A horse that loses ground to trouble and still finishes competitively has more ability than its result suggests. A clean trip today — removing the interference factor — often produces a significantly better finish. This is one of the most reliable form-reversal angles in handicapping.
