Race Day Overview — Parx Racing, Monday April 28, 2026

Parx Racing kicks off another Monday card with nine races spanning dirt routes and sprints, offering a mix of claiming, allowance, and maiden special weight competition. The card leans heavily toward older claimers in the early going before stepping up to allowance and maiden company in the finale stretch. Total handle figures from recent Monday cards at Parx have shown respectable action, particularly in the allowance events and the closer, which should draw exotic play.

Kenny Peck of the Daily Racing Form highlighted the April 27 card at Parx, and today's April 28 offering follows a similar structure. The meet has been rolling along with consistent fields in the claiming ranks, and several trainers who are prominent on the Philadelphia-area circuit appear multiple times on today's card, including Jamie Ness, Michael Pino, Kathlee Crook-DeMasi, and Ernesto Padilla-Preciado. The Padilla-Preciado barn in particular has been active and worth watching for live horses at all levels.

The card's feature race is Race 7, the $50,000 allowance for non-winners of one other than, going a route of ground at 1760 feet on the main track. Race 9, the $50,000 maiden special weight sprint, closes the card and offers the highest purse in the sprint division today.

Bettors should note that the Monday Parx card tends to feature shorter fields in some spots, but today's nine-race program has fields ranging from five to eight horses, giving adequate wagering depth throughout.

Weather and Track Conditions — April 28, 2026

The Philadelphia region is expecting mild late-April conditions for race day. Temperatures are forecast in the mid-to-upper 60s Fahrenheit with partly cloudy skies and low humidity. No significant precipitation is expected during racing hours, though there is a slight overnight moisture possibility that could affect the early track surface.

The Parx main track — a one-mile oval — is expected to be listed as fast or good. Parx has been predominantly racing over a fast main track through much of the spring meet, and absent any morning maintenance issues or residual overnight moisture, fast conditions are the baseline assumption for today's card.

Parx Racing's main track has historically played fairly honest, with no extreme rail bias, though the track has shown a slight tendency to favor horses with early speed in sprint races when the surface is firm and fast. In route races, stalkers and closers have had success when the pace sets up honestly, which is worth keeping in mind for the route events in Races 2, 3, 7, and 8 today.

Track and Post Position Bias — Parx Racing

Parx's main track is a tight one-mile oval that tends to compress pace figures compared to larger venues. Early speed has historically performed well in sprints, particularly when the track is listed fast and the rail is holding. Horses breaking from posts one through three in sprints have historically held an edge at Parx when there is no pace duel, as they can establish position and save ground around the turns.

In route races at Parx — today's 1760-foot and 1830-foot events — post position is less determinative, and running style matters more. Closers have shown the ability to get up at the longer distances when fractions are honest or contested. The inside post in routes can be a slight disadvantage if a horse needs early position and traffic develops, so outside posts in today's route races should be given fair consideration.

On a Monday card with softer competition, pace scenarios can become predictable, and front-runners in short fields tend to steal uncontested. Pay close attention to pace scenarios in Races 1, 5, 6, and 9 where early speed appears concentrated.

RACE 1 — Post (12:40)/11:40/10:40/9:40 — 1430f | D | C | Clm 16000n4l | BUN | Purse $26,000

Conditions: Claiming $16,000, non-winners of four lifetime, 3-year-olds and up. Dirt, approximately 1430 feet (six furlongs). Purse $26,000.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

This six-furlong sprint for non-winners of four lifetime figures to produce a moderate pace scenario. Atrocious (1) and Face The Facts (6) both project as potential pace factors based on their positional tendencies. Ortho Star (3) is the heavy morning line favorite and likely has the tactical speed to sit just off the pace or press it. With Atrocious (1) breaking from the rail and Face The Facts (6) pressing from the outside, pace could become contested if multiple horses want to establish early position, which might set things up for a presser or stalker to rally in the stretch.

Key Contenders

Ortho Star (3), trained by Michael Pino and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, is the 1-1 morning line favorite and the class of this field by reputation. Pino is one of the most respected trainers on the Parx circuit, and Sanchez is consistently among the top jockeys at the meet. At 1-1, Ortho Star (3) is a deserving favorite but may offer little value in straight wagering. Sanchez's familiarity with the track and Pino's ability to have horses ready are both positives. Handicappers point to this horse as likely to sit a clean trip from post 3 and have enough to repel challengers.

Atrocious (1), trained by Angel Castillo Jr. and ridden by A. Castillo, draws the rail and is co-seconded at 4-1. The Castillo connections keep this in the family, and rail posts in Parx sprints can be advantageous in small fields when a horse has natural early speed. The key question is whether Atrocious (1) can sustain its pace effort against Ortho Star (3) through the stretch.

Secondary Choices

Face The Facts (6), trained by J. Carlos Guerrero and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is the other 4-1 shot and deserves respect from the outside post. Horses breaking from post 6 in a six-horse field at Parx can find a clean trip along the outside without traffic issues. Guerrero has been competitive at the Parx meet, and this horse's form relative to the conditions warrants inclusion in the exotics.

Longshots

Simply Disregarded (2), trained by Leslye Bouchard and ridden by Luis Ocasio, is listed at 10-1 and likely faces a tough spot against the established favorites, but Ocasio is an experienced hand at Parx and can steal a race if the pace falls apart.

Starlord (4), trained by Michael Aro and ridden by Francisco Martinez, goes at 10-1 from a middle post. The middle draw is neutral, and Starlord (4) would need improvement to factor.

Authentic Kingdom (5), trained by Clarence King and ridden by Dexter Haddock, also draws 10-1 morning line odds. Haddock has been a strong rider at the meet, and while Authentic Kingdom (5) appears to be a tough ask here, do not completely discard a Haddock mount.

Selections

Win: Ortho Star (3) Place: Atrocious (1) Show: Face The Facts (6)

Betting Strategy: At 1-1, Ortho Star (3) offers thin value to win outright. The best angle here is an exacta box of Ortho Star (3) with Atrocious (1) and Face The Facts (6), or a trifecta key using Ortho Star (3) on top with Atrocious (1) and Face The Facts (6) in the minor spots.

RACE 2 — Post (1:07)/12:07/11:07/10:07 — 1830f | D | CO | OClm 25000 | BUM | Purse $28,000

Conditions: Optional claiming $25,000, older fillies and mares, dirt route approximately 1830 feet. Purse $28,000.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

This is one of the longer races on the card at 1830 feet, essentially a route of ground going around approximately one and one-eighth miles. With a six-horse field, pace scenarios in routes at Parx tend to produce honest fractions with one or two horses wanting to get to the front. Dale (2) at 2-1 and Ranting And Raving (6) at 2-1 are the co-favorites and both bear watching in the early stages. Sea Zest (5), trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, figures as a pace presser or stalker. The shape of this race may benefit closers if multiple speed sources duel through honest fractions at this extended distance.

Key Contenders

Dale (2), trained by Robert Mosco and ridden by Francisco Martinez, is one of two 2-1 co-favorites. Mosco is a capable conditioner on the Parx circuit, and Dale (2) figures to be forwardly positioned. In a route of ground for fillies and mares, class and stamina matter, and Mosco's horses tend to be well-prepared for route efforts.

Ranting And Raving (6), trained by Louis Linder Jr. and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, shares the 2-1 favoritism. Linder is a respected barn at Parx, and Lopez has been competitive at the meet. Ranting And Raving (6) from the outside post can find an uncontested trip along the rail or settle outside of trouble in a short field. The Linder-Lopez combination has shown good results at Parx this spring.

Sea Zest (5), trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is at 3-1 and represents the Jamie Ness barn, which is consistently one of the highest-percentage operations at Parx. Ness's fillies and mares are typically well-spotted, and Hazlewood has been a productive partner for the stable. Sea Zest (5) projects as a stalker-type who can inherit the lead if the co-favorites set a pressured pace.

Secondary Choices

Courageous Fergie (3), trained by Felissa Dunn and ridden by Melvis Gonzalez, draws 4-1 and is a fair contender in this spot. Give Her Another (4), trained by Jacinto Solis and ridden by Dexter Haddock, is at 6-1 and gets Haddock up, which is noteworthy. Solis is a Parx regular and Give Her Another (4) could offer some each-way value in the exotics.

Longshots

Lady Amelie (1), trained by Jose Santaella-Calderon and ridden by Joezer Rangel, is a 20-1 morning line shot from the rail. Rangel is a less prominent rider at the meet, and Lady Amelie (1) faces a tough task against the co-favorites, but the inside post in a route at Parx is not without merit if the horse breaks clean and gets a ground-saving trip.

Selections

Win: Sea Zest (5) Place: Ranting And Raving (6) Show: Dale (2)

Betting Strategy: The Ness barn angle on Sea Zest (5) at 3-1 represents the best value in the race given the co-favorites share equivalent morning line prices. A trifecta wheel with Sea Zest (5) on top and Ranting And Raving (6) and Dale (2) in the second and third slots, along with Give Her Another (4) as an additional deeper option, makes sense. An exacta using Sea Zest (5) over Ranting And Raving (6) offers a fair return if the Ness horse fires.

RACE 3 — Post (1:34)/12:34/11:34/10:34 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 7500b | BUM | Purse $21,000

Conditions: Claiming $7,500 (b-horses), older fillies and mares, dirt route 1760 feet (seven furlongs or approximately one mile). Purse $21,000.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

This is the bottom claiming level on today's card, and fields at this price point at Parx tend to produce inconsistent pace scenarios. To Be Loved By You (5), the 2-1 morning line favorite, and Spanish Girl (3) at 3-1 are the pace-setting threats. Inamorata (4) at 4-1 figures as a presser. The pace could be contentious early if Spanish Girl (3) and To Be Loved By You (5) both want the front, which might open the door for a stalker or late runner to get up.

Key Contenders

To Be Loved By You (5), trained by Jose Gonzalez-Milian and ridden by Patrick Henry Jr., is the morning line favorite at 2-1. Gonzalez-Milian keeps the mount on this horse with an in-house rider, and favorites at Parx in bottom claiming routes for fillies and mares can be vulnerable to pace pressure. To Be Loved By You (5) needs to be watched in the morning line to see if sharp money supports the price.

Spanish Girl (3), trained by Susan Crowell and ridden by Abner Adorno, is 3-1 and is one of two Crowell entries in this race. Adorno is a top-tier rider at the Parx meet and brings a significant edge in skill level at this claiming level. The Crowell stable runs two horses here, which can occasionally indicate a trainer using one horse to pace the other, but both must be considered legitimate threats at these prices.

Secondary Choices

Inamorata (4), trained by Jorge Diaz and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is at 4-1 and gets a capable rider in Hazlewood, who has been productive at the meet. Inamorata (4) from post 4 is ideally placed tactically and could find a comfortable stalking position.

Eleanor Rigby (1), trained by Eli Betancourt Jr. and ridden by Adam Bowman, draws the inside post at 5-1 and represents potential value. At the bottom of the claiming ladder, horses with any recent positive form can win at a price.

Longshots

Sister Marjorie (6), trained by Jose Santaella-Calderon and ridden by Dexter Haddock, is at 6-1. The Haddock angle gives Sister Marjorie (6) some relevance, as Haddock consistently produces in spots where the public may overlook a mount. Hard Spice (2), trained by Susan Crowell and ridden by Luis Ocasio, is the stable's second entry at 12-1. Crowell double-entries suggest confidence in the barn, but Hard Spice (2) likely functions as the pace-use horse rather than the primary win hope.

Selections

Win: Spanish Girl (3) Place: To Be Loved By You (5) Show: Inamorata (4)

Betting Strategy: Adorno aboard Spanish Girl (3) at 3-1 is the play. The exacta of Spanish Girl (3) over To Be Loved By You (5) is the primary ticket, with a saver using To Be Loved By You (5) over Spanish Girl (3). Add Sister Marjorie (6) in the trifecta for upside. Avoid boxing at this level — target specific horses to maximize return.

RACE 4 — Post (2:01)/1:01/12:01/11:01 — 1210f | D | CO | OClm 16000 | BUM | Purse $25,000

Conditions: Optional claiming $16,000, older fillies and mares, dirt sprint 1210 feet (approximately five and one-half furlongs). Purse $25,000.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

A five-and-one-half furlong dash for older fillies and mares at the optional claiming level. Short sprints tend to be decided early at Parx, and with Twisted Halo (5) and Nit Witness (4) sharing the 2-1 co-favoritism, the pace scenario centers on which of these two is more tractable. Golden Chakra (3) at 3-1 adds pace pressure if she wants the front. Calisa (1) from the inside post at 4-1 could also be a factor if she is a natural front-runner. This race projects as pace-contentious, which could set up Sandy Girl (6) or Moon Fleet (2) as longshot beneficiaries if things fall apart up front.

Key Contenders

Twisted Halo (5), trained by Scott Lake and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, is one of the co-favorites at 2-1. Scott Lake is one of the most accomplished trainers at Parx with consistently strong win percentages, and Sanchez provides elite jockey talent at this level. Twisted Halo (5) from post 5 should find a clean trip in a six-horse sprint and is the horse to beat.

Nit Witness (4), trained by Ernesto Padilla-Preciado and ridden by Abner Adorno, is the other 2-1 co-favorite. Padilla-Preciado has been a productive trainer on the current Parx meet, and Adorno's presence gives this horse a quality rider. Nit Witness (4) from post 4 is ideally positioned in the middle of the pack.

Secondary Choices

Golden Chakra (3), trained by Robert Mosco and ridden by Yan Rodriguez, draws 3-1 and is a legitimate threat. Mosco, who also trained Dale (2) in Race 2, keeps busy on today's card and Golden Chakra (3) with Rodriguez in the irons at 3-1 could offer some each-way interest. Calisa (1) from the inside post at 4-1, trained by Felix Flores-Coba and ridden by Noel Herman, could get to the front unchallenged if the pace rivals break slowly.

Longshots

Sandy Girl (6), trained by Trevor Gallimore and ridden by Ajhari Williams, draws the outside post at 6-1. Gallimore also trains We Miss Neil (3) in Race 5. Williams is a less prominent rider at the meet, but Sandy Girl (6) could benefit from a pace duel. Moon Fleet (2), trained by Patrick Ashton and ridden by Luis Ocasio, is at 15-1 and appears to be the longest of long shots here. Ocasio's presence keeps Moon Fleet (2) relevant at a price, but defeating the Lake and Padilla-Preciado entries will require a career-best effort.

Selections

Win: Twisted Halo (5) Place: Nit Witness (4) Show: Golden Chakra (3)

Betting Strategy: The Scott Lake-Mychel Sanchez combination at 2-1 is the primary play. Box the co-favorites Twisted Halo (5) and Nit Witness (4) in the exacta and include Golden Chakra (3) on the bottom of an exacta wheel for value. A trifecta using Twisted Halo (5) and Nit Witness (4) on top with Golden Chakra (3) and Calisa (1) in the third spot covers the most likely outcomes.

RACE 5 — Post (2:28)/1:28/12:28/11:28 — 1430f | D | CO | OClm 40000 | BUN | Purse $32,000

Conditions: Optional claiming $40,000, older horses, dirt sprint 1430 feet (approximately six furlongs). Purse $32,000.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

This is the top claiming race on today's card for older horses, and the pace scenario figures to be genuinely competitive. Marvelous Mo (1) at 3-1 and Our Notion (5) at 2-1 are the likely pace-setters in this six-horse field. Willisau (2) at 4-1 and Nomowineforyou (6) at 4-1 figure as pressers. The key question is whether Our Notion (5) can get to the lead unchallenged from post 5 or whether Marvelous Mo (1) will force a duel from the rail. If the pace is genuinely contested, Starrosso (4) at 8-1 could emerge as a closer.

Key Contenders

Our Notion (5), trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, is the 2-1 morning line choice and carries two strong form indicators: the Jamie Ness barn is elite at the Parx meet, and Sanchez is one of the top riders on the circuit. Our Notion (5) from post 5 has room to establish pace position without excessive traffic concerns. This is the horse that sharp money will gravitate toward, and the Ness-Sanchez combination at this claiming level demands respect.

Marvelous Mo (1), trained by Kathlee Crook-DeMasi and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, draws the rail at 3-1. Crook-DeMasi has been active and competitive on the current Parx meet. Hazlewood from the rail will look to establish early position, and if Marvelous Mo (1) can get to the front, the rail bias in six-furlong sprints at Parx could be a factor. This is a legitimate threat to Our Notion (5).

Secondary Choices

Willisau (2), trained by Louis Linder Jr. and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, is at 4-1. Linder, who also handles Ranting And Raving (6) in Race 2, is a capable conditioner, and Lopez is competitive at the Parx meet. Willisau (2) from post 2 can work out a pressing trip without undue trouble. Nomowineforyou (6), trained by Michael Pino and ridden by Dexter Haddock, is also at 4-1 from the outside post. Pino and Haddock are both prominent Parx figures, and Nomowineforyou (6) on the outside may be able to find a clean trip wide if the rail becomes contested.

Longshots

We Miss Neil (3), trained by Trevor Gallimore and ridden by A. Castillo, draws 12-1 morning line odds. At the $40,000 optional claiming level, GALLIMORE's runner at this big a price is likely facing tougher than ideal competition. Starrosso (4), trained by David Dotolo and ridden by Luis D. Rivera, is at 8-1 and could be a closer to monitor if the pace develops quickly and falls apart late.

Selections

Win: Our Notion (5) Place: Marvelous Mo (1) Show: Willisau (2)

Betting Strategy: The Ness-Sanchez tandem on Our Notion (5) at 2-1 is the cornerstone of this race. The exacta of Our Notion (5) over Marvelous Mo (1) is the primary play. If Marvelous Mo (1) wins, the Crook-DeMasi upset angle deserves a reverse saver. Nomowineforyou (6) at 4-1 with Haddock and Pino should be included in the trifecta underneath the top two.

RACE 6 — Post (2:55)/1:55/12:55/11:55 — 1430f | D | CO | OClm 25000 | BUN | Purse $28,000

Conditions: Optional claiming $25,000, older males, dirt sprint 1430 feet (approximately six furlongs). Purse $28,000.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Seven horses go in this optional claiming sprint for older males, giving this race the largest field of the afternoon. Captain Fancy (2) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and likely the primary pace-setter. Halftime Show (4) at 3-1 figures as a presser or stalker. Real Men Violin (7) at 4-1 and Dirty Cash (3) at 4-1 are additional contenders who will want forward positioning. With seven runners and multiple pace sources, this race sets up potentially for a closer or stalker to get up. Gavone (5) and Penn Franklin (6) at 6-1 apiece bear watching as potential big-field beneficiaries.

Key Contenders

Captain Fancy (2), trained by Jacinto Solis and ridden by Dexter Haddock, is the 2-1 morning line choice. Haddock is one of the premier riders at the Parx meet and Solis regularly conditions competitive horses on this circuit. Captain Fancy (2) from post 2 should find an ideal pace position without traffic issues. This is the public's choice and for good reason.

Halftime Show (4), trained by Ernesto Padilla-Preciado and ridden by Jorge Vargas Jr., is the 3-1 second choice. Padilla-Preciado has been effective on the current Parx meet, and Vargas Jr. is a capable rider. Halftime Show (4) from the middle post is tactically well-placed.

Secondary Choices

Real Men Violin (7), trained by Josue Arce and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, draws 4-1 odds from the outside post. Sanchez's presence is always a positive, and an outside draw in a seven-horse sprint at Parx can occasionally provide a free-running trip without traffic. Dirty Cash (3), trained by Kathlee Crook-DeMasi and ridden by Kendry Rivera, is the other 4-1 contender. Crook-DeMasi's barn has been active today, and Rivera is a Parx regular.

Longshots

Gavone (5), trained by Scott Lake and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, is at 6-1. Lake's horses at Parx win at a high percentage, and Gavone (5) at 6-1 is potentially the best value on the board if the pace develops and tightens up in the stretch. Penn Franklin (6), trained by Harold Wyner and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is at 6-1. Hazlewood on an outside post in a seven-horse sprint gives Penn Franklin (6) a clear trip, and Wyner is a quiet but capable trainer on the Parx circuit. Centaur Central (1) at 15-1, trained by Jose Gonzalez-Milian and ridden by Noel Herman, is the longest shot in the field and faces a significant challenge against the pace figures and class of the favorites.

Selections

Win: Captain Fancy (2) Place: Halftime Show (4) Show: Gavone (5)

Betting Strategy: Captain Fancy (2) is the solid play, but 2-1 limits the win ticket upside. The most value here is a trifecta key using Captain Fancy (2) on top, with Halftime Show (4), Real Men Violin (7), and Gavone (5) filling out the minor positions. Gavone (5) at 6-1 with Scott Lake represents a trainer angle worth including in the exotics.

RACE 7 — Post (3:22)/2:22/1:22/12:22 — 1760f | D | A | Alw 50000n1x | BUM | Purse $50,000

Conditions: Allowance, non-winners of one other than, older fillies and mares, dirt route 1760 feet (approximately seven furlongs to one mile). Purse $50,000.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

This is the feature race of the afternoon, and the field of seven presents a genuine handicapping puzzle. Pam Pam (4) at 2-1 is the morning line choice for Jamie Ness, who dominates the better races at Parx. Tower Twenty Two (7) at 3-1 figures as a strong closer or presser. I Can Run (1) and Princess Kalamoh (6) at 4-1 apiece are legitimate pace factors. With multiple horses wanting forward position from the inside, the pace could develop into a genuine test of stamina in this route. A contested pace sets up Tower Twenty Two (7) and potentially Strike A Rose (2) as closing threats.

Key Contenders

Pam Pam (4), trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and carries the weight of Ness's reputation at the Parx meet. Ness is extraordinarily productive with fillies and mares in allowance company, and Hazlewood has become the barn's preferred rider at the meet. Pam Pam (4) from post 4 should find a comfortable trip whether pressuring the pace or settling just off it. Handicappers point to this Ness filly as the horse to beat in the feature.

Tower Twenty Two (7), trained by Silvino Ramirez and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, is the 3-1 second choice and draws the outside post. The Ramirez barn is not as high-profile as some, but the 3-1 price suggests the betting market respects this horse's chance. Lopez on the outside post can find a smooth stalking trip and launch a late run in a route at Parx if the pace unfolds honestly. This is a genuine threat to Pam Pam (4).

Secondary Choices

I Can Run (1), trained by Miguel Penaloza and ridden by Dexter Haddock, draws the rail at 4-1. Haddock in the irons on a Penaloza-trained runner at the allowance level is a respectable angle. I Can Run (1) from post 1 will need to break sharply and establish position to avoid traffic on the inside in a route. Princess Kalamoh (6), trained by Robert Mosco and ridden by Francisco Martinez, is also at 4-1. Mosco, who appears multiple times today, keeps a competitive barn at Parx, and Princess Kalamoh (6) from post 6 has an advantageous outside draw in a route event.

Longshots

Strike A Rose (2), trained by Jeremiah Englehart and ridden by Yan Rodriguez, draws 5-1 odds. Englehart is a respected trainer with a strong national record, and his presence in a Parx allowance race suggests a horse that may be more capable than her odds reflect. This is a barn worth noting. Tariba Dream (3), trained by Irving Rodriguez and ridden by Abner Adorno, is at 6-1. Adorno on a route runner at the allowance level always has merit. Songmaker (5), trained by Harold Wyner and ridden by F. Pennington, draws 8-1 and is the likely longest shot among the contenders but should not be completely dismissed at this level if the pace develops favorably.

Selections

Win: Pam Pam (4) Place: Tower Twenty Two (7) Show: Strike A Rose (2)

Betting Strategy: The Ness-Hazlewood combination on Pam Pam (4) in the feature is the strongest play of the afternoon. However, at 2-1 the win ticket alone is modest. Structure a trifecta using Pam Pam (4) on top with Tower Twenty Two (7) and Strike A Rose (2) in the secondary positions. The Englehart-trained Strike A Rose (2) at 5-1 as the exacta bottom is the value play here. An exacta of Pam Pam (4) over Tower Twenty Two (7) or Strike A Rose (2) offers the best return-on-investment structure for this feature.

RACE 8 — Post (3:49)/2:49/1:49/12:49 — 1430f | D | A | Alw 41000n1x | BUM | Purse $41,000

Conditions: Allowance, non-winners of one other than, older fillies and mares, dirt sprint 1430 feet (approximately six furlongs). Purse $41,000.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

An eight-horse allowance sprint for older fillies and mares, which is the deepest field on today's card. Up N Runnin (5) at 3-1 is the morning line favorite and projects as the primary speed source. Little Cocoa Bean (3) at 4-1 and Maximus Angelicus (2) at 5-1 figure as the next tier of contenders. With eight runners in an allowance sprint, pace development can get complicated, and this race sets up for multiple scenarios. The three morning line favorites at 3-1, 4-1, and 5-1 suggest an open race where exotics could pay well.

Key Contenders

Up N Runnin (5), trained by Alfredo Velazquez and ridden by F. Pennington, is the 3-1 morning line favorite. Velazquez keeps a productive barn at Parx, and Pennington has been consistent at the meet. Up N Runnin (5) from post 5 should find a comfortable pace position in this sprint. Handicappers see this as the most likely winner based on current form and class indicators.

Little Cocoa Bean (3), trained by Josue Arce and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, is at 4-1 and draws significant support from the Sanchez booking. Arce is a Parx regular, and Sanchez's presence gives Little Cocoa Bean (3) a top-level rider in an eight-horse sprint. Post 3 in a sprint at Parx is a reasonable draw.

Maximus Angelicus (2), trained by Robert Reid Jr. and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, is at 5-1. Reid is a productive Parx trainer, and Lopez is in strong form. Maximus Angelicus (2) from post 2 projects as a presser who can sit just off the pace and launch a run in the upper stretch.

Secondary Choices

Peacefulezfeeling (6), trained by Kathlee Crook-DeMasi and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is at 6-1. Crook-DeMasi has saddled runners in multiple races today, and Hazlewood on a sprint runner at the allowance level is always a factor. Xmas In Cairo (1), trained by Bernard Dunham and ridden by Andrew Wolfsont, draws the inside post at 6-1. Wolfsont is a less prominent rider at Parx, but Xmas In Cairo (1) from the rail can get a ground-saving trip.

Longshots

Lady Annabelle (4), trained by Ernesto Padilla-Preciado and ridden by Silvestre Gonzalez, is at 8-1. Padilla-Preciado has been effective on this Parx meet, and the 8-1 morning line could underestimate this horse. Wild Girl (7), also trained by Padilla-Preciado and ridden by Kendry Rivera, is the barn's second entry at 8-1. Two Padilla-Preciado entries at 8-1 apiece in an eight-horse field is an intriguing angle — at least one of these could be live at a price. Query (8), trained by Bobbi Anne Hawthorne and ridden by Andy Hernandez, draws the outside post at 8-1 and is the least-exposed commodity in the field.

Selections

Win: Up N Runnin (5) Place: Little Cocoa Bean (3) Show: Maximus Angelicus (2)

Betting Strategy: Up N Runnin (5) is the public choice, but the open nature of this race makes trifectas and superfectas attractive. Box the top three morning line contenders — Up N Runnin (5), Little Cocoa Bean (3), and Maximus Angelicus (2) — in the trifecta, and add Peacefulezfeeling (6) and one Padilla-Preciado entry as a fourth leg. Lady Annabelle (4) at 8-1 with the active Padilla-Preciado barn could be a trifecta sleeper.

RACE 9 — Post (4:16)/3:16/2:16/1:16 — 1430f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $50,000

Conditions: Maiden special weight, 3-year-olds and up, dirt sprint 1430 feet (approximately six furlongs). Purse $50,000.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

This eight-horse maiden special weight sprint closes the card, and the pace analysis involves multiple horses with limited or first-out profiles, which makes it inherently challenging. Ragatony (2) and Chowser (3) at 4-1 apiece are the co-second choices along with My Military Hero (5), all at 4-1. Ghost Army (4) and Psalmist (1) at 5-1 are additional contenders. With multiple horses possibly breaking their maiden here, pace often develops erratically. Horses with previous strong works and tactical speed from outside posts tend to do well in this type of sprint.

Key Contenders

Ragatony (2), trained by Michael Pino and ridden by Mychel Sanchez, is one of the 4-1 co-choices and carries the two most prominent names in local form — Pino as a top Parx conditioner and Sanchez as one of the meet's leading riders. The Pino-Sanchez combination in a maiden special weight sprint is a formidable pairing, and Ragatony (2) figures to be well-prepared.

Chowser (3), trained by Jorge Duarte Jr. and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, shares the 4-1 price. Duarte is a capable Parx trainer, and Lopez has been strong at the meet. Chowser (3) from post 3 is well-drawn for a sprint, and the Lopez booking adds credibility.

My Military Hero (5), trained by Miguel Penaloza and ridden by Melvis Gonzalez, is the third 4-1 co-choice. Penaloza also handles I Can Run (1) in Race 7. Gonzalez is an active Parx jockey, and My Military Hero (5) from post 5 in the middle of the field has a reasonable draw.

Secondary Choices

Ghost Army (4), trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood, is at 5-1 and represents the Ness barn. Ness's presence in the maiden ranks should never be overlooked, as the barn is adept at spotting horses into the right spots for first wins. Ghost Army (4) at 5-1 with Hazlewood is a legitimate player despite the morning line suggesting otherwise.

Psalmist (1), trained by Jacinto Solis and ridden by Abner Adorno, draws the rail at 5-1. Adorno is an elite rider at the meet, and Psalmist (1) from the inside post with a capable trainer in Solis is worth considering. Rail posts in Parx sprints are not a disadvantage if the horse breaks cleanly.

Longshots

Onceinawhile (8), trained by David Dotolo and ridden by Dexter Haddock, draws the outside post at 5-1. Haddock on the outside with Dotolo as the conditioner makes Onceinawhile (8) an interesting closing option in the finale. Who's Your Hattie (6), trained by Scott Lake and ridden by Jorge Vargas Jr., is at 10-1. Lake's presence — even at 10-1 in the maiden ranks — gives Who's Your Hattie (6) a measure of respect. Lake is an accomplished conditioner and does not spot horses without a plan. Coach Bennett (7), trained by Robert Reid Jr. and ridden by F. Pennington, is also at 10-1. Reid's barn handles multiple runners today, and Coach Bennett (7) could improve enough to factor at a price.

Selections

Win: Ragatony (2) Place: Ghost Army (4) Show: Chowser (3)

Betting Strategy: Ragatony (2) with the Pino-Sanchez angle is the top play in the finale. Ghost Army (4) at 5-1 is a must-use in the exotics given the Ness connection. Structure trifectas using Ragatony (2) and Ghost Army (4) on top, with Chowser (3), My Military Hero (5), and Psalmist (1) filling out the minor positions. Who's Your Hattie (6) at 10-1 with Scott Lake as a trifecta or superfecta add-on provides upside.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Mychel Sanchez is among the most productive riders at the current Parx meet and appears five times on today's card: Ortho Star (3) in Race 1, Twisted Halo (5) in Race 4, Our Notion (5) in Race 5, Little Cocoa Bean (3) in Race 8, and Ragatony (2) in Race 9. Sanchez's win percentage at Parx is consistently strong, and he handles horses across all levels with equal effectiveness. His presence in the feature races on today's card — particularly on the Scott Lake and Jamie Ness horses — is highly significant.

Dexter Haddock is another top-tier rider at Parx who rides six times today: Authentic Kingdom (5) in Race 1, Give Her Another (4) in Race 2, Sister Marjorie (6) in Race 3, Captain Fancy (2) in Race 6, I Can Run (1) in Race 7, and Onceinawhile (8) in Race 9. Haddock's booking by multiple top trainers — Solis, Penaloza, and Pino — throughout the card reflects his standing at the meet. He is a rider whose mounts consistently outperform their morning line prices.

Yedsit Hazlewood takes six mounts and appears to be the go-to rider for the Jamie Ness barn today: Sea Zest (5) in Race 2, Inamorata (4) in Race 3, Marvelous Mo (1) in Race 5, Penn Franklin (6) in Race 6, Pam Pam (4) in Race 7, and Peacefulezfeeling (6) in Race 8. The volume of Ness horses assigned to Hazlewood is the most telling statistic on this card, particularly with Pam Pam (4) in the feature.

Abner Adorno rides four times today: Spanish Girl (3) in Race 3, Nit Witness (4) in Race 4, Tariba Dream (3) in Race 7, and Psalmist (1) in Race 9. Adorno is a leading rider at Parx who produces top win percentages in sprint and route races, and his presence on Spanish Girl (3) and Nit Witness (4) makes both of those horses legitimate plays.

Pascacio Lopez is busy with six mounts: Ranting And Raving (6) in Race 2, Willisau (2) in Race 5, Gavone (5) in Race 6, Tower Twenty Two (7) in Race 7, Maximus Angelicus (2) in Race 8, and Chowser (3) in Race 9. Lopez's workload suggests he is a regular on the Parx circuit and his mounts across the card deserve attention in the exotic wagering, particularly Tower Twenty Two (7) in the feature at 3-1.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jamie Ness is the most significant trainer on today's card in terms of quality and depth of representation. Ness saddles Sea Zest (5) in Race 2, Our Notion (5) in Race 5, Pam Pam (4) in Race 7, and Ghost Army (4) in Race 9. Ness's win percentage at Parx during the current meet is among the highest of any conditioner at the circuit, and his ability to spot horses into appropriate conditions is a decisive edge. When Ness horses carry top riders — Sanchez on Our Notion (5) and Hazlewood on Pam Pam (4) — they demand full attention.

Scott Lake sends out Twisted Halo (5) in Race 4, Gavone (5) in Race 6, and Who's Your Hattie (6) in Race 9. Lake is a career-level elite trainer at Parx with a win percentage that consistently ranks near the top of the meet. Twisted Halo (5) with Sanchez in the irons in Race 4 is among the strongest trainer-jockey angles on the card today.

Michael Pino handles Ortho Star (3) in Race 1 and Ragatony (2) in Race 9. Pino is a well-established Parx trainer whose horses are consistently well-conditioned. Ortho Star (3) as the heavy favorite in the opener and Ragatony (2) with Sanchez in the finale bookend a strong Pino day.

Ernesto Padilla-Preciado trains Nit Witness (4) in Race 4, Halftime Show (4) in Race 6, Lady Annabelle (4) in Race 8, and Wild Girl (7) in Race 8. Two entries in Race 8 at 8-1 apiece is a notable angle — the barn is clearly active and competitive, and at least one of those fillies could be live at a price in the allowance sprint.

Kathlee Crook-DeMasi saddles Marvelous Mo (1) in Race 5, Dirty Cash (3) in Race 6, and Peacefulezfeeling (6) in Race 8. The barn is busy today and has shown consistent form on the Parx circuit. Peacefulezfeeling (6) with Hazlewood in Race 8 at 6-1 is a legitimate exotics consideration.

Robert Mosco trains Dale (2) in Race 2, Golden Chakra (3) in Race 4, and Princess Kalamoh (6) in Race 7. The volume of Mosco entries today reflects an active barn, and Golden Chakra (3) at 3-1 in the five-and-one-half furlong sprint for mares warrants attention.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best single play of the day is Pam Pam (4) in Race 7, the $50,000 allowance feature, trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Yedsit Hazlewood. At 2-1, the win wager alone is modest, but the Ness-Hazlewood combination in fillies and mares allowance company at Parx is as close to a bankable angle as exists on the local circuit. Structure the bulk of your Race 7 action around Pam Pam (4) in the exacta and trifecta.

The best value play on the card is Strike A Rose (2) in Race 7 at 5-1. Jeremiah Englehart is a trainer of considerable national reputation, and his presence in a Parx allowance points to a well-spotted, competitive filly. Strike A Rose (2) is the primary underneath play in Race 7 exactas and trifectas.

Gavone (5) at 6-1 in Race 6 with Scott Lake training is the top trainer angle for overlay value. Lake's win percentage at Parx makes any 6-1 morning line price potentially undervalued. Gavone (5) deserves trifecta inclusion in Race 6 alongside the favorites.

Ghost Army (4) at 5-1 in Race 9 with Jamie Ness training and Hazlewood riding is the second-best trainer angle of the card and the value play in the finale. In maiden special weight company, a Ness horse at 5-1 in a sprint is not to be dismissed.

For Pick 5 players, the late Pick 5 beginning in Race 5 offers a natural sequence:

Race 5 — OUR NOTION (5), single or with MARVELOUS MO (1)

Race 6 — CAPTAIN FANCY (2), HALFTIME SHOW (4), GAVONE (5)

Race 7 — PAM PAM (4), use two or three horses underneath

Race 8 — UP N RUNNIN (5), LITTLE COCOA BEAN (3), MAXIMUS ANGELICUS (2)

Race 9 — RAGATONY (2), GHOST ARMY (4), with one additional opener

A singling strategy on Pam Pam (4) in Race 7 within the Pick 5 allows players to spread more liberally in the opener and closer, where the field is more open. A base ticket of Our Notion (5) single, three in Race 6, Pam Pam (4) single, three in Race 8, and three in Race 9 creates a manageable 27-combination ticket at a reasonable cost.

For daily double players, the Race 7-8 double combining Pam Pam (4) on top with Up N Runnin (5) and Little Cocoa Bean (3) in Race 8 is the cleanest structure on the card. A Race 8-9 double using Up N Runnin (5) with Ragatony (2) and Ghost Army (4) is a reasonable multi-race closer.

The best single-race trifecta play is in Race 7, using Pam Pam (4) on top with Tower Twenty Two (7), Strike A Rose (2), and I Can Run (1) filling the minor positions. This four-horse trifecta box at a manageable cost targets the feature's most likely outcomes and provides meaningful return if any of the second or third choices run to their potential.
