Race Day Overview — Saratoga Race Course, Friday, July 24, 2026

The Spa opens its Friday card with ten races spanning maiden claimers, open claimers, optional claimers, and stakes action headlined by the Grade II Shuvee Stakes in Race 8. It is a deep card that rewards serious preparation. The feature of the afternoon is the $250,000 Shuvee at nine furlongs on the main track, a 4-year-old filly division showdown that drew considerable attention when Scottish Lassie (POST 4) was installed as the 9-5 morning line co-favorite alongside Fully Subscribed (POST 3) in early wagering discussions. Both trainers Jorge Abreu and Chad Brown have live shots throughout the day, which sets up an interesting tactical battle between two of the meet's leading barns.

Race 9 brings the $200,000 R. Violette Jr. Breeders' Cup Stakes for New York-breds going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, a race packed with legitimate Grade I-caliber horses competing under the state-bred conditions umbrella. Max Money (POST 10) and A Little At First (POST 6) both drew favorable morning line favoritism, and the race drew a full field of ten.

Trainer Chad Brown enters Friday with multiple entrants across the card, including Nonna Lynne (POST 4) and Mommy's Turn (POST 8) in Race 7, Aeolian (POST 2) and Fully Subscribed (POST 3) in Race 8, and Gold Sovereign (POST 4) in Race 10. Brad Cox also has strong representation with Two By Two By Two (POST 7) in Race 1, Conflict (POST 3) in Race 2, and Bless The Broken (POST 5) in Race 8.

Race 10, singled out as a Best Bet by DRF handicapper Mike Beer, features a full field of ten in a maiden special weight event at a mile and a half on the turf. That distance alone should produce a contentious early pace scenario that rewards closers and turf specialists.

The Acorn winner Always a Runner, trained by Chad Brown, is being pointed toward the CCA Oaks according to reports from the Saratoga backstretch. Brown was quoted expressing optimism about that filly's rebound despite a subpar effort in her most recent start. This broader context gives Brown additional motivation to perform with his horses on today's card.

Mark Casse has Nitrogen continuing her preparations for the Whitney Stakes, and Bolt Island (POST 9) in Race 2 represents his entry in the maiden special weight turf route for fillies.

Weather and Track Conditions

Friday, July 24 at Saratoga brings typical summer Spa conditions. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with highs reaching into the mid-to-upper 80s Fahrenheit. Humidity will be a factor throughout the afternoon card given the recent stretch of warm weather across the Saratoga Springs region. No meaningful rain is anticipated through post time, though isolated pop-up showers cannot be completely ruled out given the humid atmosphere.

The main track at Saratoga is rated fast heading into Friday's card. Recent maintenance has kept the surface consistent through the week, and the lack of rain means the cushion should remain stable. The track has been playing true to form, rewarding horses with early speed in sprint distances while the route distances have leaned slightly toward closers who can sit off a contested early pace.

The turf courses are rated firm. Saratoga's inner and outer turf strips are in excellent condition for mid-meet, and firm ground at the Spa typically favors horses who can handle quick footing and generate sustained momentum through the final turn. The mile and a half turf route in Race 10 will be run on firm going, which should help horses with proven turf pedigrees and proven stamina.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

The Saratoga main track in its current fast condition has shown a modest inside post bias through the early meet. Rail-skimming stalkers and pressers have been rewarded in sprint distances, while in route races the one and two posts have shown a slightly higher win percentage than average when pace setters face pressure. That said, the bias is not severe enough to override class and form considerations.

On the turf, firm conditions at Saratoga historically favor mid-pack closers who can settle in good trip position through the first turn. In larger turf fields, post position matters more as horses drawn wide can face traffic complications coming off the first turn into the backstretch. In the eleven-horse maiden special weight turf route in Race 6, post positions from three through eight offer the best opportunity to secure a ground-saving trip without being trapped inside or forced extremely wide.

For the mile and a half turf marathon in Race 10, post position is critical. With ten horses navigating a long run into the first turn, posts one through five have historically produced better results at that distance at Saratoga, as horses in those positions can more easily establish inside position through the early stages of a race with ample ground to cover before the pace sorts out.

In the Route 2 turf sprint in Race 2 at seven furlongs, Saratoga's turf course at that distance tends to favor horses who can break alertly and get to the rail early. Outside posts can be disadvantageous in tight early going.

RACE 1 — Post (1:10 PM ET) — 1540f | D | M | Md 20000 | BUM | Purse $41,000

Maiden claiming event for fillies and mares going six and a half furlongs on the main track. At $20,000 maiden claiming price, this is the lowest rung of the Saratoga ladder, and the field of eight features several first-time starters and horses that have been unable to break their maiden at various levels.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

With Two By Two By Two (POST 7) likely to establish the tempo for trainer Brad Cox and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., this race projects to have honest early fractions. Babcie (POST 2) and Hanna's Hideaway (POST 3) could also show early speed, which might string the field out and set up a pressing stalker. The inside posts drew well for horses looking to save ground early.

Key Contenders

Two By Two By Two (POST 7) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and draws the most attention on this card. Brad Cox is one of the premier trainers in North America and his Saratoga meet stats are consistently strong. Pairing Cox with Irad Ortiz Jr. creates an elite connections angle at a level where connections matter enormously. Whether this filly is good enough to break her maiden at this level will come down to her underlying ability, but the barn consistently places horses to win and does not drop horses into maiden claimers without reason.

Oath (POST 8) at 3-1 for trainer Linda Rice and Manuel Franco gives the favorite a major challenge from the outside. Linda Rice is a perennial leading trainer at the Spa who thrives with maiden claimers and knows how to spot horses in races they can win. OATH should be well prepared and Franco is a capable ride.

Secondary Choices

Babcie (POST 2) at 4-1 for Melanie Giddings with Junior Alvarado gives the race a legitimate mid-price option. Giddings is a competent trainer who regularly sends live shots into maiden claimers at this level. Alvarado is a quality rider who has been productive at the meet.

Camille's Legacy (POST 5) at 6-1 for David Duggan and Katie Davis rounds out the secondary group worth examining. Duggan is a lesser-known conditioner but can spring occasional winners, and 6-1 provides some overlay value if the horse has ability.

Longshots

Hanna's Hideaway (POST 3) at 8-1 for Lisa Bartkowski and Jamie Rodriguez gives some action to those inclined toward prices. All Fun N Games (POST 1) at 12-1 for Kelly Lynn Deiter and Christopher Elliott is a long price that seems appropriate based on connections. Big Jackie (POST 6) at 12-1 for James Ferraro and Edgard Zayas is from a barn with multiple runners today and this price reflects the outfit's overall standing. Ms Nikki D (POST 4) at 20-1 for James Ferraro and Ricardo Santana Jr. is the longest price in the field.

Selections

Win: Two By Two By Two (POST 7) Place: Oath (POST 8) Show: Babcie (POST 2)

Wagering Angle: Use Two By Two By Two (POST 7) on top in exactas with Oath (POST 8) and Babcie (POST 2). The connections angle on the favorite is strong enough to make this a single in any multi-race sequences.

RACE 2 — Post (1:44 PM ET) — 1870f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | AOF | Purse $115,000

Maiden special weight for fillies and mares going seven furlongs on the turf. A purse of $115,000 indicates a quality field, and the eleven-horse field features stock from several major barns. This is a competitive and wide-open race.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Eleven horses in a seven-furlong turf sprint will generate considerable early shuffling. Just Peachy (POST 7) at 2-1 has the morning line favorite status and Flavien Prat's hands, suggesting she will be sent to a tactical position. Turf sprints at Saratoga over seven furlongs often see the pace collapse late as horses tire, which sets up horses with stamina to close into a position.

Key Contenders

Just Peachy (POST 7) at 2-1 for Rodolphe Brisset with Flavien Prat is the public choice and deserves respect. Brisset has been one of the more underrated trainers on the circuit, producing results with turf maiden runners. Prat is one of the nation's elite riders and his presence in a large field like this adds significant value, as he will find the right trip whether pressing or stalking.

Conflict (POST 3) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the barn's marquee entry on the turf. Cox excels in maiden turf routes and sprints at Saratoga, and Ortiz Jr. from post three gives this filly a clean break and the option to stalk the pace from an ideal position.

Margie's Girl (POST 5) at 4-1 for Kenneth McPeek and Jose Ortiz is another well-connected runner in this field. McPeek sends legitimate turf maidens to Saratoga and Jose Ortiz provides an experienced hand from a favorable inside-middle post.

Mandy Steph (POST 2) at 4-1 for Miguel Clement and Manuel Franco is the fourth horse in the race at that morning line price. Clement is a skilled turf conditioner who brings horses to Saratoga sharp, and post two is useful in a turf sprint. This is a horse worth examining closely.

Texas Dandelion (POST 11) at 4-1 for Joe Sharp and Jose Ortiz creates a scheduling conflict since Jose Ortiz also appears listed for Margie's Girl (POST 5). One of these mounts will require a jockey change, which should be monitored at the windows. Sharp is a solid trainer but post eleven in a turf sprint is a significant disadvantage.

Secondary Choices

Celebrate (POST 8) at 8-1 for Todd Pletcher and J.R. Velazquez is a Pletcher maiden that deserves respect. Pletcher routinely sends well-prepared maidens to Saratoga and his win percentage with maiden turf runners in the summer is consistently above average. At 8-1 this offers genuine overlay potential.

Harmony Mill (POST 4) at 8-1 for Raymond Handal and Dylan Davis is a horse that comes in at a price that could represent value. Handal is a lesser-known trainer but has live runners when pointing to Saratoga.

Bittersweet Memory (POST 10) at 8-1 for Kelsey Danner and Dylan Davis is another runner from outside posts that will need clean racing room to factor.

Longshots

Loop D Loop (POST 6) at 10-1 for George Weaver and Tyler Gaffalione provides a price angle. Weaver is an excellent turf trainer and Gaffalione has been one of the circuit's best turf riders. At 10-1 this is a horse worth putting in exactas. Bolt Island (POST 9) at 12-1 for Mark Casse and J.R. Velazquez creates another scheduling question around Velazquez between this and Celebrate (POST 8), and a jockey conflict check is warranted. Miss Ma'am (POST 1) at 12-1 for Amelia Green and Jamie Rodriguez is a long price from an unfavorable inside post in a large turf sprint field.

Selections

Win: Just Peachy (POST 7) Place: Conflict (POST 3) Show: Celebrate (POST 8)

Wagering Angle: With four horses at 4-1 on the morning line this race is asking for a wide wheel. Use Just Peachy (POST 7) and Conflict (POST 3) on top in exactas. The value play is Celebrate (POST 8) underneath at 8-1 for the show bet and as a third in trifectas.

RACE 3 — Post (2:18 PM ET) — 1760f | D | AO | OClm 55000n1x | BUM | Purse $120,000

Optional claimer for non-winners of one race other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going one mile on the main track. The $120,000 purse reflects the elevated class level for this condition, and My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) was installed as the overwhelming 1-1 morning line favorite for Chad Brown.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

With My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) likely to sit just off the pace under Manuel Franco, this race projects as a pace setup that favors Brown's horse. The question is whether Bow Draw (POST 8) for Steve Asmussen or Nycon (POST 3) for D. Whitworth Beckman will generate enough early speed to soften the pace and give the closers a target.

Key Contenders

My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) at 1-1 for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is a short price that is justified by connections. Brown rarely sends a horse into an optional claimer at this level without confidence, and Franco from post six in a one-turn mile is an ideal setup. The 1-1 price does not offer value in straight win wagering, but this is a horse to single in multi-race sequences.

Nycon (POST 3) at 5-1 for D. Whitworth Beckman and Tyler Gaffalione is the most interesting alternative. Gaffalione thrives in one-turn route situations where he can sit a ground-saving trip and pounce late. At 5-1 this is the race's value play if My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) faces any pace pressure.

Bow Draw (POST 8) at 8-1 for Steve Asmussen and Jose Ortiz has the barn's class pedigree behind it. Asmussen wins at a high clip at Saratoga and Jose Ortiz knows how to ride routes. The outside post is a minor concern in a one-mile main track race.

Secondary Choices

Brunch With Amy (POST 1) at 8-1 for Linda Rice and Flavien Prat is a compelling secondary choice. Rice has the post one and Prat has the ability to navigate the rail in a one-turn mile without losing ground. At 8-1 this is a horse worth including in trifectas and superfectas.

Soundbite (POST 9) at 10-1 for Michelle Nevin and Irad Ortiz Jr. is an interesting price. Ortiz Jr. giving up the ride in Race 1 to appear here reflects how seriously connections view the horse's chances. Nevin is a trainer worth monitoring in New York optional claimers.

Longshots

Krissys Star (POST 5) at 12-1 for William Morey and Jamie Rodriguez is a horse from a barn that occasionally produces live longshots at Saratoga. Bernieandtherose (POST 2) at 12-1 for Dominick Schettino and Katie Davis is a price horse with limited upside based on connections. Lika Rolling Stone (POST 7) at 15-1 for Antonio Arriaga and Christopher Elliott is a longshot with a challenging trainer-jockey combination at this level. Fast And Frisky (POST 4) at 30-1 for Gregory Charlerie and Ruben Silvera is the longest price in the field and can be safely eliminated in most wager structures.

Selections

Win: My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) Place: Nycon (POST 3) Show: Bow Draw (POST 8)

Wagering Angle: My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) is the single here but avoid win wagering at 1-1. Use in the exacta with Nycon (POST 3) and Bow Draw (POST 8). The value is in rolling this single through the Pick 3 and Pick 4.

RACE 4 — Post (2:52 PM ET) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 20000 | CUN | Purse $52,000

Claiming race at $20,000 for colts and geldings going one mile on the main track. Eight horses entered in what projects as a competitive claiming affair at a level that regularly produces competitive finishes without a clear standout.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Glen Airy (POST 1) with Irad Ortiz Jr. will likely dictate the terms from the rail post. A 2-1 morning line says the crowd expects this horse to wire the field, but if Authentic Gallop (POST 2) or Get A Job (POST 3) engages early, the pace could become contested and open the door for stretch runners.

Key Contenders

Glen Airy (POST 1) at 2-1 for Michael Maker and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the clear public choice. Maker is an elite trainer who competes effectively at all levels at Saratoga, and Ortiz Jr. on the rail in a one-mile dirt race is an ideal configuration for a front-running or pressing type. This horse should be respected as the controlling speed.

Rungius (POST 7) at 4-1 for Bruce Levine and Ricardo Santana Jr. is the primary alternative. Levine wins regularly in claiming races at Saratoga, and Santana has the ability to place a horse in the right spot in a one-turn mile. Post seven is workable.

Neon Bordeaux (POST 8) at 4-1 for Richard Dutrow and Flavien Prat is a horse with an interesting connections angle. Dutrow can spring live horses and having Prat in the irons from the outside post suggests this trainer is confident in the horse's ability to overcome the disadvantage.

Secondary Choices

Awesome Empire (POST 4) at 5-1 for Joe Sharp and Jose Ortiz is a legitimate mid-price option. Sharp has shown he knows how to get horses competitive at the $20,000 claiming level, and Ortiz from post four is well positioned in a one-turn mile.

Hours In A Day (POST 6) at 6-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is another Linda Rice entry on the card. Rice has multiple runners today and HOURS IN A DAY at 6-1 deserves a look based on the trainer's overall productivity at Saratoga.

Longshots

Authentic Gallop (POST 2) at 12-1 for Kinnon LaRose and Kendrick Carmouche is a price horse that could show early speed from post two. Get A Job (POST 3) at 8-1 for Fernando Abreu and Jamie Rodriguez is a legitimate contender at a price. Abreu has been active on the card today and some of his runners deserve more attention. Rock The Weekend (POST 5) at 20-1 for Lolita Shivmangal and Omar Hernandez Moreno is a longshot that can be omitted in most wagering structures.

Selections

Win: Glen Airy (POST 1) Place: Neon Bordeaux (POST 8) Show: Rungius (POST 7)

Wagering Angle: The exacta box of Glen Airy (POST 1), Neon Bordeaux (POST 8), and Rungius (POST 7) is the primary play. If Glen Airy (POST 1) wires the field, the exacta with Neon Bordeaux (POST 8) at 4-1 underneath pays a fair number.

RACE 5 — Post (3:26 PM ET) — 1430f | D | C | Clm 20000n2l | BUN | Purse $42,000

Claiming event for non-winners of two races lifetime at $20,000 going six furlongs on the main track for males. Eleven horses fill this large field for a modest purse. The large field creates pace complexities in a short sprint.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

With eleven horses and a six-furlong dash, the early fractions will be fast. Swaging (POST 10) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Jamie Rodriguez, Tedder (POST 11) at 4-1 for Albert Stall Jr. and Christopher Elliott, and Salming (POST 1) for Fernando Abreu and Manuel Franco could all contribute to a quick early pace. Closers might get an opportunity if the front-runners exhaust each other.

Key Contenders

Swaging (POST 10) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Jamie Rodriguez is a co-favorite that benefits from Rice's excellent record in this type of condition at Saratoga. Despite the wide post, six furlongs allows outside horses to angle in quickly. Rodriguez is a capable sprint rider.

Tedder (POST 11) at 4-1 for Albert Stall Jr. and Christopher Elliott is the other morning line co-favorite from the outermost post. Stall is a well-respected trainer with a strong record in sprint claimers, and while post eleven is a disadvantage, the connections' confidence is evident from the low morning line price.

Salming (POST 1) at 5-1 for Fernando Abreu and Manuel Franco benefits from the rail post in a six-furlong sprint. Abreu has multiple entries today and SALMING could find an uncontested lead if the horse shows any early foot.

Secondary Choices

Diamond Child (POST 4) at 6-1 for Melanie Giddings and Junior Alvarado is a mid-field post with quality connections at the secondary level. Giddings knows how to place these types of horses, and Alvarado is a dependable rider in sprints.

Sports Hero (POST 7) at 6-1 for James Ryerson and Jose Lezcano is another 6-1 option from a better post position than either co-favorite. Ryerson trains a tight operation and SPORTS HERO in mid-field at post seven could track the pace and pounce.

Rumblyoungmanrumbl (POST 8) at 8-1 for David Donk and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the most compelling value play in the race. Donk is an underrated trainer who places horses to win at Saratoga, and Ortiz Jr. at 8-1 in a sprint always represents an angle worth monitoring.

Longshots

Shellac (POST 5) at 8-1 for Fernando Abreu and Ruben Silvera is the second Abreu entry and comes at a reasonable price. Majestic Arc (POST 3) at 15-1 for Lolita Shivmangal and Katie Davis is an outsider. Detail Oriented (POST 2) at 20-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci and Edgard Zayas can be eliminated in most structures. Reside (POST 6) at 20-1 for Wayne Potts and Ricardo Santana Jr. is another longshot. Into Inspiration (POST 9) at 20-1 for Jose Jimenez and Reylu Gutierrez is the longest price in the field.

Selections

Win: Swaging (POST 10) Place: Tedder (POST 11) Show: Rumblyoungmanrumbl (POST 8)

Wagering Angle: In large sprint fields, trifectas with the two co-favorites on top and Rumblyoungmanrumbl (POST 8) underneath offer the best return. Use all three in various combinations with Salming (POST 1) and Sports Hero (POST 7) as backup options.

RACE 6 — Post (4:01 PM ET) — 1210f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | AOF | Purse $115,000

Maiden special weight for fillies going five furlongs on the turf. Thirteen horses go to the gate in what is a large, wide-open field. Without Hesitation (POST 13) at 2-1 is the public choice, but five furlongs on the turf with thirteen horses from post thirteen is an extreme disadvantage that must be weighed against the connections.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Five furlongs on the turf is a sharp sprint that will see horses scrambling for position immediately. FROM post thirteen, Without Hesitation (POST 13) will have to use early energy or sit wide the entire way. Horses from the inner posts have a decided advantage in a race at this distance and field size.

Key Contenders

Without Hesitation (POST 13) at 2-1 for Wesley Ward and Jose Ortiz is the public choice, and Ward is one of the premier juvenile turf sprint specialists in the world. He routinely ships to the Spa with high-percentage first-out turf sprinters for fillies. The 2-1 morning line reflects Ward's strong record at this specific distance and condition. Post thirteen is the concern, but Ward horses frequently overcome wide draws with speed.

Quartz Mountain (POST 4) at 4-1 for Wesley Ward and Jose Ortiz represents a scheduling conflict — Ward has two entries and Jose Ortiz cannot ride both. This jockey conflict should be monitored, but Quartz Mountain (POST 4) from post four with Ward's barn behind it is a significant contender in its own right.

Girls Wear Pearls (POST 9) at 4-1 for Jena Antonucci and Flavien Prat is a compelling alternative at 4-1. Antonucci is an improving trainer and having Prat from post nine in a five-furlong turf sprint is a significant asset. Prat excels in these sharp turf sprints.

Secondary Choices

Sound Of Madness (POST 8) at 5-1 for William Walden and Manuel Franco is a legitimate secondary option from a useful inside post. Walden is a trainer who produces results with turf maidens and Franco at 5-1 offers value.

Breaker (POST 6) at 6-1 for Todd Pletcher and Irad Ortiz Jr. is another horse with elite connections at a fair price. If Ortiz Jr. is not needed elsewhere, the 6-1 morning line on a Pletcher turf maiden is typically an overlay. Post six is near-ideal for a five-furlong turf sprint.

Dazzling (POST 2) at 6-1 for Steve Asmussen and J.R. Velazquez has an excellent post position draw and capable connections. Asmussen places horses effectively in maiden turf sprints and post two is a decided advantage in this field.

Runaway Bride (POST 7) at 6-1 for D. Whitworth Beckman and Tyler Gaffalione is a horse that Gaffalione could navigate from a mid-field post if the horse shows any early inclination to press. At 6-1 this represents fair value.

Longshots

Red Coats Coming (POST 5) at 8-1 for Joe Sharp and Luis Saez is a horse from an active trainer today. Hunter Creek (POST 3) at 15-1 for Thomas Proctor and Katie Davis can be used as a price play in trifectas and superfectas. Space For Grace (POST 10) at 15-1 for Mike Dini and Jose Lezcano is an outsider. Duty Bound (POST 11) at 12-1 for Jack Sisterson and Luis Saez creates a Saez scheduling conflict with Red Coats Coming (POST 5). Shinobu (POST 12) at 10-1 for Joe Sharp and Manuel Franco is another Sharp entry that creates a Franco scheduling question given Sound Of Madness (POST 8). Mitoleon Dynamite (POST 1) at 20-1 for Amelia Green and Christopher Elliott is the longest price in the field and despite post one being ideal in this race, the 20-1 morning line reflects the significant talent gap.

Selections

Win: Without Hesitation (POST 13) Place: Girls Wear Pearls (POST 9) Show: Breaker (POST 6)

Wagering Angle: Despite the post disadvantage, Without Hesitation (POST 13) from Ward is a likely single in multi-race sequences. Use Girls Wear Pearls (POST 9) and Dazzling (POST 2) underneath in exactas. In trifectas, Dazzling (POST 2) from post two can be a key third horse at 6-1.

RACE 7 — Post (4:35 PM ET) — 1870f | T | AO | OClm 45000n2x | BUM | Purse $110,000

Optional claimer for fillies and mares, non-winners of two races other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going a mile and an eighth on the turf. Twelve horses compete in what figures as a quality turf route with established Chad Brown runners Nonna Lynne (POST 4) and Mommy's Turn (POST 8) sharing the spotlight.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

A mile and an eighth on Saratoga's turf with twelve horses will produce a patient race early. Brown's two entries are likely to settle in mid-pack or just off the pace, which is Chad Brown's preferred style with turf runners. The race projects as a moderate pace that will see the field spread out through the first turn and backstretch before the real racing begins in the final three-eighths.

Key Contenders

Boxed Wine (POST 10) at 2-1 for Jorge Abreu and Ricardo Santana Jr. is the morning line favorite and Abreu's turf program has been sharp at this meet. Santana Jr. is one of the most capable turf riders in New York and from post ten in a twelve-horse field at a mile and an eighth, he can work toward the inside through the first turn.

Mommy's Turn (POST 8) at 3-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the more attractive of Brown's two entries in this spot. Prat riding for Brown in a turf route is one of the most productive combinations in the country. Post eight in a twelve-horse turf route at this distance is workable for a horse with Brown's typical come-from-behind style.

Higher Force (POST 11) at 3-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Christopher Elliott is an interesting morning line co-favorite. Rodriguez has been productive in New York with turf route runners and at 3-1 this represents a horse that handicappers are evaluating highly.

Secondary Choices

Nonna Lynne (POST 4) at 4-1 for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is the second Brown entry. Post four is more favorable than post eight in a turf route of this distance, but the 4-1 morning line suggests handicappers prefer Mommy's Turn (POST 8) of the two Brown entries. Starship Pegasus (POST 5) at 4-1 for Michelle Nevin and Kendrick Carmouche is an alternative worth monitoring. Sweetest Princess (POST 12) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is the outermost draw in the field and Rice has shown she can overcome wide draws with her better turf runners.

Saratoga Snow (POST 1) at 6-1 for Mike Dini and Junior Alvarado has the rail post in a turf route which is a useful asset. Sweet Anniversary (POST 3) at 6-1 for M. Anthony Ferraro and Jose Ortiz is a horse from a smaller barn that could surprise. Golden Rocket (POST 7) at 6-1 for W. Robert Bailes and Dylan Davis is another 6-1 price that adds to the competitive nature of this race.

Longshots

Can't Fool Me (POST 2) at 8-1 for Fernando Abreu and Ricardo Santana Jr. creates a Santana scheduling concern with Boxed Wine (POST 10). One of those mounts will require a jockey change. Hello Beauty (POST 6) at 15-1 for Patrick Quick and Jose Lezcano is a longshot. Giant At Work (POST 9) at 6-1 for Charlton Baker and Jamie Rodriguez is on the fringe at 6-1.

Selections

Win: Mommy's Turn (POST 8) Place: Boxed Wine (POST 10) Show: Nonna Lynne (POST 4)

Wagering Angle: The Brown double of Nonna Lynne (POST 4) and Mommy's Turn (POST 8) is a natural trifecta key. Use Mommy's Turn (POST 8) on top with Boxed Wine (POST 10) and Higher Force (POST 11) for the exacta. The Chad Brown turf angle at Saratoga is one of the most reliable in the sport.

RACE 8 — Post (5:10 PM ET) — 1980f | D | G2 | Shuvee-G2 | CUM | Purse $250,000

The Grade II Shuvee Stakes for 4-year-old fillies going nine furlongs on the main track. This is the feature race of the afternoon and drew a field of seven with two co-favorites. Scottish Lassie (POST 4) was described as the high priestess of this division going into the race, while Fully Subscribed (POST 3) represents Chad Brown's powerful stable.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Seven fillies going nine furlongs on the main track at Saratoga should produce a classic strategic route. Scottish Lassie (POST 4) and Fully Subscribed (POST 3) are the class of the field and both likely prefer to stalk the pace rather than set it. Snowyte (POST 1) at 6-1 for Danny Gargan and Luis Saez could provide an honest pace from the inside, which would set up the closers. If the early fractions are moderate, the co-favorites will have a classic duel to the wire.

Key Contenders

Scottish Lassie (POST 4) at 2-1 morning line co-favorite for Jorge Abreu and Jose Ortiz is the headline entry. TDN described her as the 9-5 morning line favorite and high priestess of this group, meaning she may drift toward that price at post. Post four from the rail is an ideal position for Ortiz to place this filly in a stalking position through the first turn, and Abreu has had a sharp meet. Scottish Lassie (POST 4) enters this race with credentials that mark her as the division's best at this distance.

Fully Subscribed (POST 3) at 2-1 morning line co-favorite for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the challenger. Brown's record in Grade II stakes at Saratoga is exceptional, and Fully Subscribed (POST 3) from post three gives Prat a clear view of the race and the ability to stalk Scottish Lassie (POST 4) through the final turn. This race may come down to these two fillies.

Bless The Broken (POST 5) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the third choice. Cox and Ortiz Jr. represent one of the sport's best connections in a Grade II, and post five puts this filly in the ideal position to track the two favorites and then challenge on the far turn. This is a legitimate upset threat.

Secondary Choices

Snowyte (POST 1) at 6-1 for Danny Gargan and Luis Saez could be a pace-setter who helps soften the field for the others, but Saez is a top rider who will not simply sacrifice the horse. If Snowyte (POST 1) gets an uncontested lead and controls moderate fractions, a wire job is not impossible at 6-1.

Eunomia (POST 6) at 8-1 for Saffie Joseph Jr. and J.R. Velazquez is a horse from an active and improving barn. Joseph has developed a strong record in graded turf races and in dirt stakes at Saratoga. Eunomia (POST 6) at 8-1 is the value play in the Shuvee.

Longshots

Aeolian (POST 2) at 15-1 for Chad Brown and Dylan Davis is the second Brown entry in the race. Davis is Brown's third-choice jockey behind Prat, and the 15-1 morning line reflects that this filly is clearly the barn's second string. Valtellina (POST 7) at 20-1 for Raymond Handal and Tyler Gaffalione is a horse that closed the morning line odds discussion but is unlikely to be competitive against this caliber.

Selections

Win: Scottish Lassie (POST 4) Place: Fully Subscribed (POST 3) Show: Bless The Broken (POST 5)

Wagering Angle: The Shuvee exacta of Scottish Lassie (POST 4) over Fully Subscribed (POST 3) is the primary play. Box these two with Bless The Broken (POST 5) in a trifecta. Eunomia (POST 6) at 8-1 is the overlay to include in a superfecta for value. Avoid the 2-1 prices in straight win wagering and focus on exactas.

RACE 9 — Post (5:45 PM ET) — 1870f | T | N | RVioletteB200k | BON | Purse $200,000

The R. Violette Jr. Breeders' Cup Stakes for New York-bred horses going a mile and an eighth on the turf. A $200,000 purse for state-breds attracts high-quality New York-bred horses, and the ten-horse field includes several horses that would be competitive in open company. The morning line shows four horses at 2-1, 3-1, 3-1, and 4-1 in a compressed odds field.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

Ten New York-breds going a mile and an eighth on the turf is expected to be a patient race. A Little At First (POST 6) at 2-1 morning line is clearly the crowd's choice based on connections and recent form. Caroline St. Beat (POST 7) at 3-1 and Sunday Boy (POST 8) at 3-1 give the race multiple quality options for the closing kick. Sunday Boy (POST 8) is listed with a rider TBA, which bears monitoring before post.

Key Contenders

A Little At First (POST 6) at 2-1 for Horacio De Paz and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the morning line favorite and Ortiz Jr. in the saddle from post six is an ideal configuration for a turf route. De Paz has shown improvement as a trainer and placing a New York-bred in the Violette at 2-1 reflects genuine confidence. This horse must be the anchor of any wagering strategy.

Caroline St. Beat (POST 7) at 3-1 for Miguel Clement and Manuel Franco has Clement's turf expertise behind it. Post seven is workable in a ten-horse field at this distance. Clement is one of the most accomplished turf trainers in the region and Caroline St. Beat (POST 7) represents a genuine threat to the favorite.

Max Money (POST 10) at 2-1 morning line for Michael Maker and a rider TBA is another horse that needs a jockey assignment checked before the race. Maker is one of the elite trainers in the country and his New York-breds regularly compete effectively in stakes conditions. Max Money (POST 10) at 2-1 from post ten in a turf route is an interesting positioning challenge for whoever takes the mount.

Sunday Boy (POST 8) at 3-1 for James Ryerson also carries a rider TBA designation, which is notable when a horse carries that morning line price. Ryerson is a capable trainer and this horse's 3-1 morning line suggests recent form merits serious consideration.

Secondary Choices

Voodoo Doll (POST 2) at 4-1 for Mark Casse and Edgard Zayas is a horse from a barn that has been active at Saratoga this meet. Casse's New York-breds can be competitive in state-bred stakes and post two from the inside is a useful asset in a turf route.

Minorinconvenience (POST 9) at 4-1 for Amelia Green and Ricardo Santana Jr. is a horse that should be watched closely given the price and the improving Green barn. Spirit Of New York (POST 1) at 6-1 for Brad Cox and Jose Ortiz is a Cox entry from the rail post. Cox's record in turf stakes is excellent and Spirit Of New York (POST 1) from the rail in a mile and an eighth turf route is a horse with a clear path to the fence.

Chummers (POST 5) at 6-1 for Raymond Handal and Flavien Prat is a horse worth monitoring. Prat choosing to ride this horse at 6-1 is notable given his other options on the card, and Handal has been producing results.

Longshots

Newlyn (POST 3) at 10-1 for George Weaver and Ricardo Santana Jr. gives Weaver a price play in this competitive field. Manor Park (POST 4) at 10-1 for James Bentley Begg and Tyler Gaffalione is an outsider with a capable jockey.

Selections

Win: A Little At First (POST 6) Place: Max Money (POST 10) Show: Caroline St. Beat (POST 7)

Wagering Angle: This race is a value challenge with compressed morning line odds. The exacta of A Little At First (POST 6) and Max Money (POST 10) requires confirming the jockey assignment for Max Money (POST 10). Use A Little At First (POST 6) and Caroline St. Beat (POST 7) as a primary exacta pair. In trifectas, add Spirit Of New York (POST 1) and Voodoo Doll (POST 2) as reasonable thirds.

RACE 10 — Post (6:19 PM ET) — 2640f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $115,000

Maiden special weight for New York-bred males at a mile and a half on the turf. This marathon distance for state-breds is one of the most unique conditions on the Saratoga summer calendar. DRF handicapper Mike Beer identified this as his best bet of the day. Ten horses will contest the mile and a half with stamina at a premium.

Race 10

Pace Analysis

A mile and a half on the turf will see an extended early pace that favors patient horses with stamina and turf pedigree. There will be minimal early pressure as no horse wants to lead by a wide margin over such a grueling distance. This sets up a race where position through the final half-mile becomes decisive. Inside posts carry a premium advantage here as horses from outside draws will either have to work very early to gain the rail or sit wide throughout.

Key Contenders

Gold Sovereign (POST 4) at 4-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the most compelling entry in this race. Brown has a remarkable record with turf maidens at the Spa, and the combination of Prat at a mile and a half suggests a horse with legitimate stamina. Brown places horses to win and his turf routing maidens at Saratoga with top riders frequently graduate on first asking. Post four from the inside is ideal.

Instantly (POST 5) at 4-1 for William Walden and Irad Ortiz Jr. is a co-favorite from an adjacent post to Gold Sovereign (POST 4). Ortiz Jr. on a New York-bred turf maiden at a mile and a half commands respect. Walden has placed this horse correctly and post five is an excellent draw.

Orgonite (POST 7) at 4-1 for David Donk and J.R. Velazquez is the third horse at 4-1 morning line. Velazquez has won multiple riding titles at Saratoga and Donk is a trainer who regularly competes with turf maidens at a mile and a half.

Secondary Choices

Lahainaluna (POST 1) at 8-1 for Joe Sharp and Tyler Gaffalione has the rail post in a mile and a half turf race, which is the most coveted position at this distance. Sharp is a capable trainer and Gaffalione on the rail at a mile and a half creates a horse that can set its own pace and be very difficult to dislodge. At 8-1 this is a strong value play.

Limited Edition (POST 2) at 6-1 for Philip Antonacci and Ricardo Santana Jr. is from an inside post that also benefits from the long run to the first turn. Santana can guide this horse to the fence quickly and save ground throughout.

War And Majesty (POST 9) at 6-1 for Dale Romans and Luis Saez is a horse trained by a graded stakes winner producer from an outside post. Romans has produced turf winners at Saratoga before and Saez will need to move early to secure ground.

Daunting (POST 8) at 8-1 for Todd Pletcher and Jose Ortiz is a Pletcher turf maiden that should not be dismissed. Pletcher wins at a high clip in New York turf routes and Daunting (POST 8) at 8-1 represents potential overlay value.

Longshots

Battle (POST 10) at 4-1 for Danny Gargan and Kendrick Carmouche is a fourth co-favorite from the outermost post. Post ten in a mile and a half turf race is a significant disadvantage, and Carmouche will have to use early speed to avoid being far outside the entire race. Mortal Lock (POST 3) at 12-1 for George Weaver and Manuel Franco gives Weaver a price play in this race. Donnadoyawanna (POST 6) at 12-1 for Todd Pletcher and Kendrick Carmouche is Pletcher's second entry and at 12-1 represents a Pletcher bargain price if the horse has developed sufficiently.

Selections

Win: Gold Sovereign (POST 4) Place: Instantly (POST 5) Show: Lahainaluna (POST 1)

Wagering Angle: This is the Best Bet race of the day per expert handicappers. Use Gold Sovereign (POST 4) as a key single in the late Pick 4 and Pick 5 sequences. The exacta of Gold Sovereign (POST 4) over Instantly (POST 5) with the reverse pays well given the competitive prices. Lahainaluna (POST 1) at 8-1 from the rail is the best value play on the card and should be used underneath in trifectas.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Irad Ortiz Jr. carries one of the heaviest books on the card with mounts in Race 1, Race 3, Race 4, Race 5, Race 8, Race 9, and Race 10. When Ortiz Jr. accepts a mount at 8-1 or higher, as with Rumblyoungmanrumbl (POST 8) in Race 5 and Soundbite (POST 9) in Race 3, it is typically a live longshot angle. His engagement with the Maker barn in Race 4 on Glen Airy (POST 1) and with Chad Brown in Race 9 on A Little At First (POST 6) represent two of the day's most important rides.

Flavien Prat has a premium mount in every race he appears and is the most important jockey on the afternoon card in terms of quality of mount. His engagements include Brunch With Amy (POST 1) in Race 3, Mommy's Turn (POST 8) in Race 7, Fully Subscribed (POST 3) in Race 8, and Gold Sovereign (POST 4) in Race 10. The Prat-Brown combination in Race 7 and Race 8 gives Brown a significant tactical advantage with his two most important entries of the afternoon.

Jose Ortiz appears to have potential scheduling conflicts with Margie's Girl (POST 5) and Texas Dandelion (POST 11) both listed in Race 2. A jockey change on one of those horses should be anticipated and monitored before wagering. He also appears in Race 4 with Awesome Empire (POST 4) for Joe Sharp and in Race 6 with Quartz Mountain (POST 4) and Without Hesitation (POST 13), another apparent conflict for the Ward barn.

Tyler Gaffalione brings a strong turf riding record to his mounts, including Nycon (POST 3) in Race 3, Loop D Loop (POST 6) in Race 2, Runaway Bride (POST 7) in Race 6, MOMMY'S TURN… wait — Gaffalione is listed for Manor Park (POST 4) in Race 9, Valtellina (POST 7) in Race 8, and Lahainaluna (POST 1) in Race 10. His turf riding skills make Lahainaluna (POST 1) from the rail post in Race 10 one of the day's most compelling value-priced bets.

Luis Saez appears in the Shuvee on Snowyte (POST 1), Race 5 with an entry, and Race 9 with CHUMMERS… actually Saez is listed for Red Coats Coming (POST 5) in Race 6 and Duty Bound (POST 11) in Race 6, another jockey conflict requiring a change. His Shuvee ride on Snowyte (POST 1) is likely his highest-priority mount of the afternoon.

Manuel Franco has a full card including Mandy Steph (POST 2) in Race 2, My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) in Race 3, Salming (POST 1) in Race 5, Caroline St. Beat (POST 7) in Race 9, and Mortal Lock (POST 3) in Race 10. Shinobu (POST 12) in Race 6 creates a potential conflict with Sound Of Madness (POST 8), and a jockey change on one of those should be expected.

Ricardo Santana Jr. appears to have scheduling conflicts in Race 7 between Can't Fool Me (POST 2) for Fernando Abreu and Boxed Wine (POST 10) for Jorge Abreu. Santana's engagement with whichever horse is confirmed is the important piece of information to track before wagering.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Chad Brown dominates the Saratoga turf program and his presence across multiple races today makes his operation the focal point of the card. Brown's record in turf optional claimers and turf stakes at the Spa is historically elite. His double entry in Race 7 (Nonna Lynne (POST 4) and Mommy's Turn (POST 8)) and Race 8 (Aeolian (POST 2) and Fully Subscribed (POST 3)) reflects confidence with deep strings. Brown's stable typically performs at peak during the Saratoga meet and his overall presence today is a strong signal.

Brad Cox adds significant firepower to the dirt program with Two By Two By Two (POST 7) in Race 1, Conflict (POST 3) in Race 2, and Bless The Broken (POST 5) in Race 8. Cox operates at an elite level across all conditions and his 2-1 shot in Race 1 is the card's clearest directional bet for the opener.

Jorge Abreu has multiple horses performing well, most notably Scottish Lassie (POST 4) in the Shuvee and Boxed Wine (POST 10) in Race 7. Abreu has been one of the Saratoga meet's more prominent trainers and his runners command attention.

Linda Rice is active throughout the card with Oath (POST 8) in Race 1, Brunch With Amy (POST 1) in Race 3, Hours In A Day (POST 6) in Race 4, Swaging (POST 10) in Race 5, and Sweetest Princess (POST 12) in Race 7. Rice is a perennial Saratoga presence and her horses at prices like 4-1 (SWAGING) and 8-1 (BRUNCH WITH AMY, OATH) represent the type of value the New York-based trainer routinely provides.

Todd Pletcher has entries in Race 2 (Celebrate (POST 8)), Race 6 (Breaker (POST 6)), and Race 10 (Daunting (POST 8) and Donnadoyawanna (POST 6)). Pletcher's Saratoga record across multiple decades remains one of the sport's most impressive and his turf maiden runners at 6-1 and 8-1 deserve careful consideration.

Fernando Abreu has multiple entries today including Salming (POST 1) in Race 5, Shellac (POST 5) in Race 5, Can't Fool Me (POST 2) in Race 7, and Get A Job (POST 3) in Race 4. Having two horses in Race 5 with different jockeys suggests both are live, but Salming (POST 1) from the rail post with Manuel Franco is the primary interest.

Joe Sharp has entries in Race 2 (Texas Dandelion (POST 11)), Race 4 (Awesome Empire (POST 4)), Race 5 (RED COATS COMING), Race 6 (Red Coats Coming (POST 5) and Shinobu (POST 12)), and Race 10 (Lahainaluna (POST 1)). Sharp's ability to spread horses across the card effectively makes Lahainaluna (POST 1) from the rail with Gaffalione the most attractive Sharp angle of the day.

Michael Maker's engagement of Irad Ortiz Jr. on Glen Airy (POST 1) in Race 4 is one of the clearest trainer-jockey signals on the card. Maker rarely uses Ortiz Jr. unless the horse is live.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The primary multi-race sequence to target is the late Pick 4 covering Races 7 through 10. Using Mommy's Turn (POST 8) in Race 7, Scottish Lassie (POST 4) in Race 8, A Little At First (POST 6) in Race 9, and Gold Sovereign (POST 4) in Race 10 as the four-horse key gives a single ticket at a manageable cost. Adding one additional horse in Race 9 — specifically Max Money (POST 10) once the jockey assignment is confirmed — creates a $2 Pick 4 ticket at four combinations totaling $8.

For the Pick 5 beginning in Race 6 and running through Race 10, use Without Hesitation (POST 13) in Race 6, Mommy's Turn (POST 8) in Race 7, Scottish Lassie (POST 4) in Race 8, and spread Race 9 and Race 10 more broadly. Using three horses in Race 9 (A Little At First (POST 6), Max Money (POST 10), Caroline St. Beat (POST 7)) and two in Race 10 (Gold Sovereign (POST 4) and Instantly (POST 5)) creates an 18-combination Pick 5 at a very reasonable cost given the potential payoff of surviving a five-race sequence including a $250,000 Grade II.

The best single value plays on the card are as follows. Lahainaluna (POST 1) at 8-1 in Race 10 from the rail post with Tyler Gaffalione for Joe Sharp is the best overlay on the entire card. A mile and a half on the turf rewards the rail post, the trainer is capable, and the jockey is elite in turf routes. Eunomia (POST 6) at 8-1 in the Shuvee is the value play in the feature race and should be included in exactas and trifectas behind the two co-favorites. Celebrate (POST 8) at 8-1 for Todd Pletcher in Race 2 is a typical Pletcher overlay that deserves place and show action in a large turf sprint field.

The exacta value play of the card is SCOTISH LASSIE (POST 4) over Bless The Broken (POST 5) in the Shuvee at estimated 6-1 exacta payoff. If the Cox filly can outrun Fully Subscribed (POST 3), the exacta with Scottish Lassie (POST 4) on top pays a strong number.

For the early Pick 3 covering Races 1 through 3, using Two By Two By Two (POST 7) in Race 1, Just Peachy (POST 7) and Conflict (POST 3) in Race 2, and My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) in Race 3 creates a reasonable four-combination sequence. At $2 base this costs $8 and anchors around three of the card's strongest directional bets.

The single best wagering advice for this card is to treat My Gun's Loaded (POST 6) in Race 3 and Gold Sovereign (POST 4) in Race 10 as the two primary singles in all multi-race sequences. The Chad Brown-Flavien Prat combination produces at an exceptional rate at the Spa in these conditions and both horses are in ideal spots to graduate their respective wagering claims today.
