BELMONT AT THE BIG A — RACE DAY OVERVIEW

Thursday, June 11, 2026 | Aqueduct Racetrack (Big A) | First Post: 1:10 PM ET

Today marks the resumption of racing at Aqueduct following a 17-day break for the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at Saratoga. This is a historically significant stretch of the meet, as the venerable Big A is in its final weeks of operation before the new Belmont Park takes over as NYRA's primary Queens-area venue. The Breeders' Cup organization and NYRA just unveiled the official logo for the 2027 World Championships to be held at the new Belmont Park, underscoring just how close the end of the Aqueduct era truly is.

The eight-race card today is headlined by a rich $85,000 maiden special weight on the turf in Race 4, which drew a full field of 11 runners and features strong representation from the barns of Chad Brown, Todd Pletcher, and Mark Casse. A TDN report specifically called out a Juddmonte homebred as the one to beat in that afternoon's turf maiden. The rest of the card mixes claimers, optional claimers, and maiden events on both the main track and turf courses. With the NYRA circuit returning from its festival break, trainers are freshening horses for the summer stretch and today's entries reflect a diverse mix of class levels and surface preferences.

The final weeks of Aqueduct racing carry genuine nostalgia for New York horseplayers, and attendance figures are expected to be respectable for a Thursday card. Wagering handle should benefit from renewed interest following the dramatic Belmont Festival, where Golden Tempo (Curlin) captured the GI Belmont Stakes under trainer Cherie DeVaux, completing two legs of the Triple Crown and dominating the national racing conversation.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS

As of the morning of June 11, 2026, the New York metro area is experiencing warm early-summer conditions typical for this time of year. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s Fahrenheit at post time. No significant precipitation is expected during the racing program, which bodes well for consistent surface conditions throughout the afternoon.

The main dirt track at Aqueduct is listed as fast following the 17-day layoff from live racing. With no major rainfall in the days preceding today's card, the track superintendent has had ample time to maintain the surface. The inner turf course, which will host Race 4 at a mile and Race 7 at 1 1/16 miles, is listed as good to firm. The outer turf course hosts Race 5 at 1 3/16 miles and is similarly rated in good to firm condition following recent warm and dry weather. All surfaces appear stable and suitable for accurate speed figures.

TRACK BIAS AND POST POSITION ANALYSIS

Aqueduct's main track in its current late-season configuration has historically shown a mild inside bias, particularly at route distances. The one-turn mile and longer routes tend to favor horses with early position who can save ground along the rail. In sprints, the speed bias at Aqueduct has been well-documented — horses that can establish position from the gate and set manageable fractions along the inside path have a meaningful structural advantage.

For today's sprint races on the main track (Races 2 and 6), inside posts in the first four or five slots carry a mild but real advantage, particularly in the six-furlong OC$80,000 in Race 2. In routes on the dirt (Races 1 and 3), the rail is advantageous but the inside-three posts can be a touch disadvantageous if a horse gets shuffled back and parked four or five wide on both turns.

On the turf courses, the inner turf at Aqueduct has shown a tendency to favor horses that can settle midpack and make one sweeping run on the far turn. Horses drawn in the middle posts (4 through 8 in full fields) have historically fared best on the inner turf at this meet. In today's Race 4 field of 11, the middle posts are slightly preferred. On the outer turf in Race 5 (13 runners), the wide outer posts draw some concern at 1 3/16 miles as the run to the first turn is shorter and positional battles can be intense.

RACE 1 — Post (1:10 PM ET) — 1760f | D | M | Md 35000 | BUM | Purse $41,000

Maiden claimers going nine furlongs on the Aqueduct main track. This is a route for fillies and mares at the $35,000 maiden claiming level, with a modest purse of $41,000. Expect a deliberate pace in the early going, as these types of maidens are notoriously inconsistent and tactical riders will be conservative through the first turn.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

With no confirmed confirmed front-runner dominating this field, the pace figures to be honest but not suicidal. Hip Hop Dancer (5) under Dalila Rivera for trainer David Donk projects as the most likely pace-setter based on connections and the typical running style associated with this barn at route distances. Speed Walking (6), despite the name, is trained by Kenneth McPeek and often runs closer to the pace with a steady gallop. If Hip Hop Dancer (5) gets loose on the front, the fractions could come back to the field in the stretch, setting up closers. With seven other runners in the field, at least two or three horses will be content to settle and make one move.

Key Contenders

Island Charm (7) is the morning-line favorite at 2-1, trained by Joe Sharp and ridden by Manuel Franco. Sharp has been a consistent performer in the New York maiden claiming ranks, and Island Charm (7) gets a favorable post on the outside of the field at this two-turn distance. Franco has been sharp at the Big A return meetings and is a dependable hand in these low-level maiden routes. The 2-1 morning line reflects a genuine edge here, though value will be limited if the public backs down further.

My Girl Aubree (4) at 4-1 morning line with Flavien Prat up for trainer Ilkay Kantarmaci is a horse worth watching closely. The Kantarmaci barn has shown the ability to drop horses into maiden claimers when they are ready to fire, and getting Prat aboard at a 4-1 morning line at this level is noteworthy. Prat rarely accepts mounts at this claiming tier without a strong opinion from connections.

Secondary Choices

Speed Walking (6), trained by Kenneth McPeek and ridden by Christopher Elliott, is an interesting secondary choice at 4-1. McPeek is a nationally respected conditioner who does not often run horses at the $35,000 maiden claiming level, so his presence alone signals a horse that may be ready to graduate. The 4-1 morning line co-equals My Girl Aubree (4).

Grit N Glitter (8) at 6-1 for Mark Hennig and Jose Lezcano is another contender worth a deeper look. Hennig is a patient trainer who does well in maiden claiming routes, and Lezcano's knowledge of the Aqueduct strip is among the best in the jockey colony.

Longshots

Successful Agenda (1) at 10-1 for Joe Sharp with Dylan Davis up is a second entry for the Sharp barn, which normally indicates the trainer has two lively options. Successful Agenda (1) could be used in exactas underneath if the sharp money moves to the barn's primary runner.

Big Jackie (2) at 12-1 for James Ferraro and Edgard Zayas figures to be overlooked but Ferraro is a capable conditioner who occasionally sends out a live longshot in maiden claimers. All Fun N Games (3) at 10-1 for Kelly Lynn Deiter and Jamie Rodriguez is another deep longshot who projects as a deep closer in a race that could see a collapse in pace.

Hip Hop Dancer (5) at 5-1 is a legitimate contender at the price if she can control the pace from the front. David Donk is a proven conditioner in the New York circuit who knows how to win maiden claimers.

Selections

Win: Island Charm (7) Place: My Girl Aubree (4) Show: Speed Walking (6)

Betting Strategy: With Island Charm (7) likely to be bet down below 2-1, look to build exactas using Island Charm (7) on top with My Girl Aubree (4) and Grit N Glitter (8) underneath. The $41,000 purse limits the pool sizes, so keep wagers modest and use trifectas with a wide underneath combining My Girl Aubree (4), Grit N Glitter (8), and Hip Hop Dancer (5).

RACE 2 — Post (1:41 PM ET) — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 80000n2x | CUM | Purse $90,000

A rich optional claimer at six furlongs on the main track, open to horses that have not won two races other than maiden, claiming, or starter. The $90,000 purse is the second largest on the card and this is a high-quality sprint field. The restricted eligibility conditions tend to attract horses who have won a maiden but are not yet graded-stakes caliber, creating a competitive and often beatable race.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

This race sets up as a speed duel from the outset. The Big Calhouna (1) trained by Richard Dutrow and ridden by John Velazquez has strong sprint credentials and will be pressing forward from the inside post. My Magic Wand (2) at the 1-1 morning line for Gregory Sacco and Manuel Franco also figures to be prominent. Two Richard Dutrow runners in the same race — The Big Calhouna (1) and All Class (4) — is an important note, as Dutrow rarely runs stablemates without having a clear preference. Watch where the Dutrow stable money flows.

The anticipated duel between The Big Calhouna (1) and My Magic Wand (2) for the early lead could set up a strong pace scenario, which could benefit Atarah (6) or Artemis Sound (3) as closers.

Key Contenders

My Magic Wand (2) at 1-1 for Gregory Sacco and Manuel Franco is the morning-line co-favorite and clearly the buzz horse in this race. Sacco is a skilled conditioner who does well with horses entering optional claimers off a maiden win, and My Magic Wand (2) appears to have the early foot to press or make the lead from Post 2. Franco's record at the Big A in sprints is excellent. At 1-1, however, the value is minimal and the win pool will be dominated by public money.

The Big Calhouna (1) at 2-1 for Richard Dutrow and John Velazquez is the other primary choice. Dutrow has been rebuilding his NYRA presence and placing a horse at 2-1 in an OC$80k sprint with Velazquez up indicates genuine confidence. The inside post in a six-furlong sprint at Aqueduct is not a disadvantage, and Velazquez knows this track as well as anyone in the colony.

Secondary Choices

Artemis Sound (3) at 5-1 for Todd Pletcher and Flavien Prat deserves serious consideration. Pletcher entries in optional claimers at this purse level often represent horses with upside that are being placed strategically. The 5-1 morning line offers tangible value compared to the two favorites. Prat's ability to rate a horse and find a late run in six-furlong sprints is well documented.

Atarah (6) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Jamie Rodriguez is the other secondary contender. Rice is perennially one of the sharpest trainers on the NYRA circuit, consistently placing horses in spots where they can win. Post 6 in a six-furlong sprint is workable, and Rodriguez has shown improved results with the Rice barn.

Longshots

All Class (4) at 8-1 is the second Dutrow entry with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard. In a two-horse barn entry scenario, the second horse often runs as a rabbit for the primary selection or serves as insurance. At 8-1, All Class (4) can be used in exotic tickets as a possible singled underneath if Santana Jr. gets lucky in a speed duel collapse.

Edistrudis (5) at 20-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci and Edgard Zayas is a throw-out at this level in a sprint. The 20-1 morning line accurately reflects the long odds against this runner in a quality OC$80k field.

Selections

Win: My Magic Wand (2) Place: The Big Calhouna (1) Show: Artemis Sound (3)

Betting Strategy: The 1-1 morning line on My Magic Wand (2) makes the win pool unattractive for straight wagering. Focus on exactas keying My Magic Wand (2) over The Big Calhouna (1) and Artemis Sound (3), and reverse the exacta pairing The Big Calhouna (1) over My Magic Wand (2) as a saver. A trifecta box of My Magic Wand (2), The Big Calhouna (1), and Artemis Sound (3) provides solid coverage. If the pace duel materializes and both speed horses tire, Atarah (6) could prove the best value play in the race at 4-1.

RACE 3 — Post (2:12 PM ET) — 1540f | D | CO | OClm 20000 | CUM | Purse $46,000

A nine-and-a-half furlong optional claimer on the main track for fillies and mares at the $20,000 optional claiming level. This is the lowest-grade optional claimer on the card and the field reflects that, with trainers from various experience levels. The long two-turn distance at this level produces races where pace becomes critical and horses with proven route ability have a clear edge.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Mursal (4) at 2-1 for Linda Rice and Dylan Davis projects as the likely pace-setter or pace-pressing type. Rice horses at this level in routes are frequently well-prepared and fit, and Mursal (4) from Post 4 is ideally positioned to establish a tracking trip. Coquito (7) at 3-1 for Steven Schauer and Manuel Franco could also be involved in the early tempo. If two horses press for the lead over nine-plus furlongs at this claiming level, the fractions will likely be slow, setting up a poss draw-out late.

Despo's Dream (5) at 4-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Flavien Prat is interesting as a closer who could benefit from any early pace pressure.

Key Contenders

Mursal (4) at 2-1 for Linda Rice and Dylan Davis is the clear choice at the morning line. Rice at this circuit in optional claiming routes is the kind of trainer who rarely misses when sending a horse out at 2-1 odds. Davis has been reliable aboard Rice horses and the inside-middle Post 4 is ideal for stalking the pace at nine furlongs. Mursal (4) is the top selection.

Coquito (7) at 3-1 for Steven Schauer and Manuel Franco is the second choice and has the profile of a two-turn horse who is comfortable at this class level. Franco's route riding at Aqueduct in recent seasons has been consistently strong.

Secondary Choices

Despo's Dream (5) at 4-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Flavien Prat is an intriguing secondary option. Rodriguez is a capable conditioner in the NYRA optional claiming ranks, and getting Prat on a 4-1 shot at this level again raises an eyebrow. Prat rarely takes optional claiming mounts without strong trainer intelligence.

Mezcalifornia (2) at 5-1 for Michelle Giangiulio and Jamie Rodriguez should also be considered in exotics. Giangiulio is a smaller trainer who can fire live longshots in routes, and the 5-1 morning line is not dismissive.

Longshots

Kyle's Mom (1) at 8-1 for Jeremiah Englehart and Jose Lezcano is a notable longshot. Englehart is an accomplished NYRA conditioner and his presence at 8-1 in this field deserves respect in exotics. Lezcano knows Aqueduct's two-turn routes as well as anyone.

Pens Street (6) at 8-1 is the second Rice barn entry, with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard. As with the Dutrow two-horse entry in Race 2, the question of which Rice horse is preferred becomes important. If sharp money divides between Mursal (4) and Pens Street (6), it complicates the picture.

Shezanarcticqueen (3) at 30-1 for Eduardo Jones and Villa Pino Favinho is a deep longshot worth ignoring in win pools but usable at the bottom of trifecta tickets.

Baby Sassicaia (8) at 12-1 for Norman Follett and Reylu Gutierrez is another tail-of-the-field type at this level who could factor in trifectas only if the pace collapses dramatically.

Selections

Win: Mursal (4) Place: Coquito (7) Show: Despo's Dream (5)

Betting Strategy: Mursal (4) at 2-1 is a fair price for a Linda Rice router, and the exacta combining Mursal (4) with Coquito (7) should pay reasonably well. If Pens Street (6) gets heavy morning-line action to compress Mursal (4) further, shift emphasis to Coquito (7) on top in the exacta. Trifecta options include Mursal (4)/Coquito (7)/Despo's Dream (5) and Coquito (7)/Mursal (4)/Despo's Dream (5).

RACE 4 — Post (2:43 PM ET) — 1760f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $85,000

The feature of the afternoon — a mile on the inner turf for maiden special weight horses, 3-year-olds and up. The $85,000 purse and MSW conditions attract the best-bred unraced or lightly raced horses in the NYRA barn. TDN highlighted this race in their Thursday preview, specifically calling out a Juddmonte homebred as the key figure. Cite Your Sources (10), trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Manuel Franco, is the 1-1 morning-line favorite and has been specifically identified as the Juddmonte homebred connection. Brown's record with Juddmonte homebreds on the turf at a mile in maiden special weight races is the strongest in the training profession, making this an unusually well-defined betting opportunity.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

With 11 runners going a mile on the inner turf, pace dynamics are critical. Stream It (9) at 2-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is the second choice and likely to be positioned near the front or tracking the pace. C J Star (4) for Mark Casse and J.J. Castellano is a relaxed, well-bred type that typically settles off the pace. Authoritative (5) for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is stablemate to Cite Your Sources (10), and Brown routinely enters two horses in turf maiden specials to cover pace scenarios. The dual Brown entry with Prat up on Authoritative (5) and Franco aboard Cite Your Sources (10) is textbook Brown barn positioning.

The pace in this race figures to be moderate, typical of inner turf miles at Aqueduct. With Stream It (9) expected to press forward and several horses likely to settle mid-pack, this race should set up for a horse with a middle or late run.

Key Contenders

Cite Your Sources (10) at 1-1 for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is the TDN-highlighted Juddmonte homebred and the dominant market choice. Brown's statistics with Juddmonte turf maidens at this distance are exceptional. The Post 10 is workable on the inner turf at a mile — Franco will likely allow Cite Your Sources (10) to settle and find the rail or a pocket approaching the far turn. At 1-1, the win pool offers no value, but this horse is a virtual single for structuring exotics.

Stream It (9) at 2-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is a genuine threat. Rice is one of the most accomplished turf trainers on the NYRA circuit, and Stream It (9) drawn in Post 9 adjacent to the favorite is no coincidence in terms of how jockey strategies will unfold. Lezcano has excellent instincts on the inner turf at Aqueduct and could use Stream It (9) to dictate tempo and steal the race.

Secondary Choices

C J Star (4) at 3-1 for Mark Casse and J.J. Castellano is a horse with excellent breeding and a competent connections combination that demands respect. Casse, recently profiled by TDN for his remarkable overall performance at the Belmont Stakes Festival (with trainer Mark Casse's barn featuring prominently in festival graded stakes), is in excellent form this summer. Castellano in a turf mile maiden at Aqueduct is a skilled operator who can win with these types.

Authoritative (5) at 4-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the second Brown-Juddmonte entry and must be respected at this price as a legitimate each-way threat. Brown uses the double-entry strategy specifically to increase his win probability, and Authoritative (5) with Prat — who is one of the top turf riders in North America — is a live 4-1 chance.

Franklin Delano (7) at 6-1 for Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez is another blue-chip entry from a powerful barn. Pletcher excels in turf maiden special weights at Aqueduct and Franklin Delano (7) from the middle post draws well. Velazquez is arguably the most decorated jockey in NYRA history and routinely delivers in MSW turf races.

Longshots

Donnadoyawanna (8) at 6-1 is the second Pletcher entry with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard. In a field this competitive with two Brown horses and two Pletcher horses, the double-barn dynamics create positioning questions. Donnadoyawanna (8) with Santana Jr. is live enough to merit inclusion in deeper exotic structures.

Quiet Power (1) at 4-1 for Claude McGaughey III and Jose Lezcano is a notable runner from a Hall of Fame trainer. McGaughey rarely enters horses in MSW turf routes without preparation and confidence, and Quiet Power (1) from the rail could be a nuisance if the pace bunches. The 4-1 morning line is interesting given McGaughey's typical conservative release schedule.

Wait — Stream It (9) also carries Lezcano's name on the program, and Quiet Power (1) lists Lezcano as well. In an 11-horse field, if Lezcano is listed on both horses, expect one assignment to be changed prior to post. The change, when announced, will indicate which of the two Rice or McGaughey runners has trainer preference. This is a key piece of information to confirm with final scratches and jockey changes.

Sidearm (6) at 6-1 for Edward Barker and Manuel Franco presents a conflict with Cite Your Sources (10) also listed with Franco. Again, Franco cannot ride two horses in the same race — this listing likely reflects a jockey change pending or an error in the original program. One of these assignments will change; monitor final jockey assignments.

Fateful Lightning (11) at 6-1 for Gustavo Rodriguez and Ricardo Santana Jr. is another potential jockey conflict with Santana listed on Donnadoyawanna (8) as well. Monitor final changes.

Cuban Cowboy (2) at 8-1 for Danny Gargan and Junior Alvarado is a capable outside contender. Gargan is a competent conditioner and Alvarado is a proven performer in NYRA turf routes.

Alley Oop (3) at 15-1 for Thomas Morley and Jamie Rodriguez is a deep longshot. Rodriguez is an active rider at the Big A but 15-1 in this company with a smaller trainer reflects the genuine gap in quality.

Selections

Win: Cite Your Sources (10) Place: Stream It (9) Show: C J Star (4)

Betting Strategy: At 1-1, Cite Your Sources (10) is a near-single for exotic purposes. Use Cite Your Sources (10) on top in exactas with Stream It (9), C J Star (4), and Authoritative (5) underneath. The 1-1/2-1 double decker on these two barn heavyweights will produce short payoffs, so the best value play is to key Cite Your Sources (10) and invest in trifectas with C J Star (4) and Franklin Delano (7) rounding out the bottom. If Stream It (9) is bet to near-favorite status, shift value to Authoritative (5) and Franklin Delano (7) in wider exotic constructions.

RACE 5 — Post (3:14 PM ET) — 1870f | t | M | Md 50000 | BUM | Purse $48,000

A 1 3/16-mile maiden event on the outer turf course for fillies and mares at the $50,000 maiden claiming price. Thirteen runners creates a full, unwieldy field at a demanding distance on the outer turf. These longer outer turf maiden races are notoriously difficult to handicap, but certain patterns emerge consistently at this distance.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Thirteen horses going 1 3/16 miles on the outer turf creates significant early positional pressure, particularly at a maiden claiming level where horses are inconsistent in their ability to rate. Whatta Weekend (5) and Bustling Town (10) both project as potential speed types who will be asked to press forward. The wide outer posts at this distance (Posts 10-13) are significantly disadvantaged, as the run to the first turn is short and wide horses will be forced to expend extra energy to find a comfortable position. Posts 4 through 9 in the middle of the field are most preferred at this distance on the outer turf.

Key Contenders

Intothewilderness (4) at 4-1 for Charlton Baker and Dylan Davis is ideally drawn from Post 4 for this distance on the outer turf. Baker has shown improving stats on the NYRA outer turf course this meet, and Intothewilderness (4) from a ground-saving post has natural tactical advantages in a large field.

Athena's Fury (11) at 4-1 for Amelia Green and Manuel Franco is the co-favorite and the farthest inside of the two 4-1 choices in terms of pace positioning. Green is an underrated conditioner who wins at a solid percentage with maiden claimers on the outer turf. Franco, who projects as busy today with multiple mounts, should have this horse in a comfortable position mid-field.

Secondary Choices

Roasted Reds (9) at 6-1 for Jorge Abreu and Flavien Prat is a horse that commands attention purely based on the jockey engagement. Abreu is one of the most active and improved trainers on the NYRA circuit, and getting Prat in a $48,000 outer turf maiden at 6-1 is a value signal. Post 9 at this distance is workable for a mid-pack settler.

Valiant Diva (3) at 6-1 for Thomas Morley and Ruben Silvera is a secondary contender. Morley is a capable smaller trainer who has shown an ability to place horses in outer turf routes, and Valiant Diva (3) from Post 3 has the ground-saving advantage that can be decisive in a big field.

Mizty Fog (12) at 8-1 for Robert Falcone Jr. and Christopher Elliott is the best of the deeper prices. Post 12 is very wide for 1 3/16 miles on the outer turf, but Elliott is an experienced rider who will make every effort to find a rail position early.

Longshots

Babcie (1) at 8-1 for Melanie Giddings and Junior Alvarado has a favorable post draw but the trainer-rider combo is modest. Babcie (1) is a toss-in exotics-only runner.

Addagirl Addie (2) at 12-1 for Robbie Davis and Ricardo Santana Jr. at Post 2 is ideally drawn but the 12-1 morning line reflects real class concerns.

Whatta Weekend (5) at 15-1 for David Duggan and Jamie Rodriguez is a likely pace type who may find the journey too demanding in the stretch.

Two Clicks (6) at 30-1 for Bruce Levine and Reylu Gutierrez is effectively a throw-out at this price in a 13-horse outer turf maiden.

Mia Sophia (7) at 12-1 for Edward DeLauro and Sahin Civaci figures to be ignored by the market. Roseberns Dream (8) at 20-1 for Dominick Schettino and Katie Davis is a bottom-of-the-card runner.

Bustling Town (10) at 15-1 for Harold James Bond and J.J. Castellano is an interesting late addition — Castellano on a 15-1 shot for a smaller trainer in an outer turf maiden is an unusual combination worth watching for morning steam.

Not Tapping (13) at 15-1 for Thomas Morley and J.J. Castellano — noting that Castellano is also listed on Bustling Town (10), which again flags a probable jockey change to verify before post time.

Selections

Win: Intothewilderness (4) Place: Athena's Fury (11) Show: Roasted Reds (9)

Betting Strategy: With 13 runners and a $48,000 purse, this is a triage race for the Pick 5. If Cite Your Sources (10) wins Race 4, the Pick 5 player needs to decide whether to single the favorite in Race 5 or spread. Use a two-horse key of Intothewilderness (4) and Athena's Fury (11) with three-horse runners underneath for trifecta plays. This race is also a candidate to use multiple horses in the daily double with Race 6.

RACE 6 — Post (3:45 PM ET) — 1760f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $80,000

A mile maiden special weight on the main track for colts and geldings. The $80,000 purse is significant for a maiden dirt route and the eight-horse field is manageable. With Chad Brown running two horses — Judge Boushay (3) and Term Premium (5) — and Barclay Tagg's Liam's Legacy (2) drawing significant attention at 2-1, this is a competitive race that splits well for exacta and trifecta wagering.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Liam's Legacy (2) and Term Premium (5) figure to be the pace-setting types, with Liam's Legacy (2) from Post 2 in ideal position to press forward. Judge Boushay (3) for Brown and Franco will likely stalk off the pace, with Term Premium (5) and Prat serving as the pace-pressing wing of the Brown entry. If Liam's Legacy (2) gets loose on the front in a sprint-paced mile, Tagg's runner could carve generous fractions that test the closers. The pace sets up as honest — perhaps faster than ideal for the favorites.

Key Contenders

Liam's Legacy (2) at 2-1 for Barclay Tagg and Junior Alvarado is the morning-line co-favorite. Tagg is one of the most respected and experienced trainers in New York, the conditioner of Funny Cide and Doyen among others, and his maiden runners are typically well-prepared when sent to the gate at 2-1. Liam's Legacy (2) from Post 2 is ideally placed for an early positioning move in a mile on the main track.

Judge Boushay (3) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is the other co-favorite. Brown's record in MSW dirt routes at Aqueduct has been excellent, and his use of Franco on Judge Boushay (3) versus Prat on Term Premium (5) usually signals which horse the barn prefers — but in this case, both are listed at 2-1, making the internal preference unclear. Watch morning-line movement.

Secondary Choices

Term Premium (5) at 3-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the third wheel in a very competitive top tier. If Prat is on the preferred Brown runner, Term Premium (5) at 3-1 is actually the better value in the race. Prat's record on dirt routes at Aqueduct MSW company is as strong as anyone's.

Longshots

Chris's Song (7) at 6-1 for Linda Rice and Ricardo Santana Jr. is a horse that deserves some attention at the price. Rice in a maiden dirt route at $80,000 with Santana Jr. is a live combination, and Post 7 in an eight-horse field at a mile is workable.

One Giant Prince (4) at 12-1 for Charlton Baker and Dylan Davis is an unlikely threat but Baker has shown improvement with maiden routes this meet.

Nordic Fyre (1) at 15-1 for Harold James Bond and Ruben Silvera is a throw-out at the inside post in a competitive MSW field. Always Honest (6) at 20-1 for Jose Jimenez and Edgard Zayas is similarly dismissible. Teuflesdale (8) at 12-1 for Bond and Jose Lezcano is another deep price with limited upside against this quality of competition.

Selections

Win: Liam's Legacy (2) Place: Judge Boushay (3) Show: Term Premium (5)

Betting Strategy: The top three horses here — Liam's Legacy (2), Judge Boushay (3), and Term Premium (5) — figure to dominate the win pool and any payoffs will be modest. The best exotic play is an exacta box of these three at varying amounts, with extra investment on Liam's Legacy (2) over Judge Boushay (3) given the pace advantage. Chris's Song (7) is the value underneath for trifecta purposes and could produce a reasonable trifecta payoff if she runs third at 6-1.

RACE 7 — Post (4:16 PM ET) — 1870f | T | AO | OClm 100000n1x | BOF | Purse $88,000

The highest-class optional claimer on the card — $100,000 optional claiming for fillies and mares at 1 3/16 miles on the outer turf, restricted to those who have not won two races. The $88,000 purse attracts horses of real quality who have won a maiden or allowance and are now stretching out to a longer turf journey. Ten runners in an optional claimer at this level is a very full and competitive field.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Right Timing (3) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is likely to be positioned in mid-pack or tracking the pace, as is characteristic of Brown outer turf runners at this distance. Hot Gossip (10) at 3-1 for Linda Rice and Manuel Franco also figures to be prominent. Siouxse (9) for Graham Motion and Jamie Rodriguez could project as the pace-setter depending on her recent form. With 10 runners going 1 3/16 miles on the outer turf, pace will be brisk and positioning in the first quarter mile is critical.

Key Contenders

Right Timing (3) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the morning-line favorite and the clear top choice based on connections alone. Brown's outer turf routes at this price point are almost unassailable, and Prat on a 2-1 Chad Brown OC$100k filly in the BOF race post position is about as reliable a starting point as one can find. Right Timing (3) from Post 3 has ideal positioning for a mid-pack stalking trip.

Hot Gossip (10) at 3-1 for Linda Rice and Manuel Franco is the other co-favorite-tier runner. Rice is Brown's most consistent rival in these outer turf optional claimers, and the combination of Rice, Franco, and a 3-1 morning line at 1 3/16 miles demands respect. Post 10 in a 10-horse outer turf field is the widest gate, which could present early positional challenges for Franco. Watch if Franco cuts back quickly after the start.

Secondary Choices

Bella Knows (4) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Junior Alvarado is an outstanding secondary selection. Cox is one of the top trainers in North America and his record in NYRA optional claimers on the outer turf — particularly at this price — is excellent. Post 4 is ideal and Alvarado has been riding with tremendous confidence this summer following his strong performances during the Belmont Festival.

Siouxse (9) at 4-1 for Graham Motion and Jamie Rodriguez is a co-secondary choice. Motion is a specialist in turf routes at this distance and price, and Siouxse (9) from Post 9 is likely to be asked to set or press the pace. If Motion's runner controls the tempo and produces honest fractions, she could easily last in the stretch.

Longshots

Abigail (2) at 8-1 for Miguel Clement and Manuel Franco raises the Franco double-entry question once again, as Franco is listed on both Abigail (2) and Hot Gossip (10). The jockey assignment will be clarified before post, and whichever horse Franco rejects will need a replacement rider and may be worth backing as an overlay.

Getting Serious (7) at 8-1 for Claude McGaughey III and John Velazquez is worth a look in exotics. McGaughey and Velazquez together in an outer turf optional claimer typically signals quiet confidence. At 8-1, this combination is marginally underpriced for deeper exacta and trifecta structures.

Integrity (8) at 8-1 for Brendan Walsh and Dylan Davis is another optional claimer type with real credentials. Walsh is a proven outer turf conditioner and Integrity (8) at this price can be used in trifecta bottoms.

French Tip (1) at 12-1 for Thomas Proctor and Jose Lezcano is an inside rail draw at a helpful post. Proctor occasionally produces a live longshot in these outer turf optional claimers and French Tip (1) could surprise at a price.

Mermaid (5) at 15-1 for Anthony Dutrow and Ricardo Santana Jr. and Salt Princess (6) at 15-1 for David Donk and J.J. Castellano are deep longshots. Donk with Castellano in an outer turf optional claimer is a combination that occasionally shows up with steam, so monitor Salt Princess (6) for morning movement.

Selections

Win: Right Timing (3) Place: Hot Gossip (10) Show: Bella Knows (4)

Betting Strategy: Right Timing (3) at 2-1 for Brown and Prat is the most reliable overlay-resistant choice on the card, but like Cite Your Sources (10) in Race 4, the value lies in exotics. Key Right Timing (3) over Hot Gossip (10) and Bella Knows (4) in the exacta. The trifecta play of Right Timing (3) / Bella Knows (4) / Siouxse (9) and Right Timing (3) / Hot Gossip (10) / Bella Knows (4) offers multiple payoff paths. Getting Serious (7) at 8-1 is the best value play to include in trifecta bottoms for potential overlays.

RACE 8 — Post (4:47 PM ET) — 1870f | t | M | Md 55000 | BUN | Purse $55,000

The finale is a 1 3/16-mile maiden event on the outer turf for colts and geldings at the $55,000 maiden claiming price, with a field of 15. This is the largest field on the card — an unwieldy 15-horse outer turf maiden with a variety of trainers and jockeys. These large outer turf maiden fields at closing-card time are notoriously difficult to handicap but can produce strong exotic payoffs.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

With 15 runners at 1 3/16 miles on the outer turf, early speed will be at a premium. Horses breaking from wide outer posts (12-15) will face significant early disadvantage. Old Time Rocknroll (14) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the morning-line favorite but draws from the very wide Post 14, which creates a structural concern. Restless Renegade (15) at 3-1 for Linda Rice and Manuel Franco draws from Post 15 — the absolute widest in the gate — which would typically be dismissed in a 1 3/16-mile outer turf event. Yet the connections demand respect.

The pace in a 15-horse maiden outer turf at this class level will be chaotic in the early going. Horses from inside posts who can save ground will be at a structural advantage once the field spreads out heading into the clubhouse turn.

Key Contenders

Old Time Rocknroll (14) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat is the morning-line choice despite the deeply unfavorable Post 14. Brown has the horsemanship to overcome post disadvantages on the outer turf and Prat is the best in the business at making the most of wide draws at this distance. At 2-1, however, the structural post concern combined with a 15-horse field makes this a very risky single.

Restless Renegade (15) at 3-1 for Linda Rice and Manuel Franco is in an equally challenging situation from the extreme outside post. However, Rice's outer turf preparation and Franco's ability to get horses into favorable positions early make Restless Renegade (15) a legitimate threat even from the rail-breaker position.

Secondary Choices

Authentic Legend (5) at 4-1 for Mark Hennig and Jose Lezcano draws ideally from Post 5. Hennig is a skilled conditioner in outer turf maiden claimers and Authentic Legend (5) with Lezcano from a ground-saving post is the best structural play in the race. At 4-1 with an inside draw, this horse projects as the most likely upset winner if the pace becomes chaotic.

Inherent Promise (7) at 4-1 for Lisa Lewis and J.J. Castellano is the co-secondary choice. Lewis is a solid NYRA conditioner and Castellano's presence on a 4-1 maiden in the closer race is a significant signal of confidence. Post 7 is workable at this distance.

Longshots

Highlands Way (12) at 5-1 for Todd Pletcher and Flavien Prat creates a jockey conflict with Old Time Rocknroll (14) also listed with Prat. One of these two assignments will change, and whichever horse Prat chooses signals the Pletcher or Brown preference. Monitor this closely.

Mount Errigal (13) at 10-1 for Pletcher and Velazquez is the second Pletcher entry. With Pletcher running two horses (HIGHLANDS WAY and MOUNT ERRIGAL ) in a 15-horse outer turf maiden, the trainer's intentions are clear — he has two live options and is playing the field.

Mortal Lock (9) at 6-1 for George Weaver and John Velazquez raises another jockey conflict with Velazquez also listed on Mount Errigal (13). One of these will change. Weaver with Velazquez in an outer turf maiden has historically produced results and Mortal Lock (9) from Post 9 has a reasonable draw.

Mr Hopkins (6) at 6-1 for Amelia Green and Jamie Rodriguez is a middle-post closer who draws from an ideal position for this distance. Green showed improvement in Race 5 with a runner at this meet and Mr Hopkins (6) at 6-1 is a value spot worth including in exotics.

Visible (11) at 8-1 for Danny Gargan and Manuel Franco creates yet another Franco conflict, as he is also listed on Restless Renegade (15). Monitor final assignments.

Dynadee (3) at 12-1 for Mike Dini and Ricardo Santana Jr. is a longshot with a ground-saving draw. Dini occasionally produces live longshots in outer turf maidens and Dynadee (3) at 12-1 with a favorable post draw is worth a single ticket in trifectas.

Big Braciole (4) at 12-1 for Wayne Potts and Edgard Zayas, Fleet N Ready (2) at 15-1 for Raymond Handal and Dylan Davis, Tail Risk (1) at 20-1 for John Terranova II and Christopher Elliott, Daw Samaa (10) at 30-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci and Silvestre Gonzalez, and Money Tour (8) at 50-1 for Douglas Seyler and Sahin Civaci are all deep longshots with negligible win probability at these odds and field size. Use sparingly only at the bottom of large superfecta tickets.

Selections

Win: Authentic Legend (5) Place: Old Time Rocknroll (14) Show: Inherent Promise (7)

Betting Strategy: Despite Old Time Rocknroll (14) being the morning-line favorite, the structural post disadvantage in a 15-horse outer turf maiden makes Authentic Legend (5) at 4-1 with the ideal Post 5 draw the most compelling value play in the race. Key Authentic Legend (5) on top in exactas with Old Time Rocknroll (14) and Inherent Promise (7). In the trifecta, use Authentic Legend (5) / Inherent Promise (7) / Old Time Rocknroll (14) and Authentic Legend (5) / Old Time Rocknroll (14) / Inherent Promise (7) as primary tickets. Include Mortal Lock (9) and Mr Hopkins (6) as alternates in the trifecta bottom. Confirm all jockey changes before wagering, as multiple Franco, Prat, Velazquez, and Castellano conflicts must be resolved.

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Flavien Prat continues to be the most formidable rider on the NYRA circuit entering this card. He is listed on multiple prime mounts today — My Girl Aubree (4) in Race 1, Artemis Sound (3) in Race 2, Despo's Dream (5) in Race 3, Authoritative (5) in Race 4, Roasted Reds (9) in Race 5, and multiple outer turf mounts in Races 7 and 8 — though jockey conflicts will need to be resolved in races with duplicate listings. When Prat accepts a mount in an outer turf optional claimer or MSW at this circuit, it is almost universally a signal of trainer and connections confidence.

Manuel Franco is equally busy and equally accomplished on this card, listed on Island Charm (7) in Race 1, My Magic Wand (2) in Race 2, Coquito (7) in Race 3, and multiple turf races in Races 4 through 8. Franco's knowledge of Aqueduct's main track and turf courses is encyclopedic, and his instincts in two-turn races — both dirt and grass — are among the best in the jockey room. Expect Franco to be physically riding multiple races and his energy levels through the later races will be a factor to monitor.

John Velazquez, despite winding down the latter phase of a Hall of Fame career, remains a craftsman of the highest order. His rides on The Big Calhouna (1) in Race 2 and Franklin Delano (7) in Race 4 reflect connections who believe they have the horse to win. Velazquez in a turf maiden at Aqueduct with a Pletcher horse is a combination that has produced winners consistently throughout his career.

Jose Lezcano is the most dependable “second tier” rider at this meet. His ability to find position in large fields on both the inner and outer turf makes him valuable on days like today when large fields dominate the second half of the card. Grit N Glitter (8) in Race 1 and Stream It (9) in Race 4 are his best chances to hit the board.

J.J. Castellano draws the curious combination of Inherent Promise (7) in Race 8 for Lisa Lewis at 4-1. Castellano's presence on a modest maiden claiming runner in the finale is notable — his engagement tends to signal privately held high opinions from trainers. Watch any morning-line movement on Inherent Promise (7) for confirmation.

Ricardo Santana Jr. has multiple mounts throughout the card and is in excellent form entering this meet. His relationship with the Dutrow barn (ALL CLASS in Race 2, DONNADOYAWANNA in Race 4) reflects the trust both Dutrow brothers have placed in him this season.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Chad Brown dominates today's card with entries in Races 4, 6, 7, and 8. Brown's record with Juddmonte homebreds in turf maiden special weights is perhaps the single most reliable trainer angle in American racing. The presence of Cite Your Sources (10) — specifically identified by TDN as the Juddmonte homebred to watch in Race 4 — is a near-bet at any reasonable price. Brown's double-entry strategy (CITE YOUR SOURCES and AUTHORITATIVE in Race 4, JUDGE BOUSHAY and TERM PREMIUM in Race 6) is characteristic of his approach to covering pace scenarios and maximizing win probability with high-quality horses.

Todd Pletcher is equally active with multiple entries across Races 4, 7, and 8. Pletcher's turf maiden operations at Aqueduct represent decades of accumulated knowledge about track bias, pace management, and surface conditions at this specific venue. His two-horse entries in Races 4 and 8 are typical Pletcher positioning.

Linda Rice is arguably the most reliable mid-tier trainer on the card, with horses in Races 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. Rice's win percentage in optional claimers on the NYRA outer turf has been consistently strong and her horses rarely run without purpose. Mursal (4) in Race 3 and Hot Gossip (10) in Race 7 are her best opportunities.

Barclay Tagg's entry of Liam's Legacy (2) in Race 6 is worth noting. Tagg is one of the most respected names in New York training history, and his MSW dirt entries at this purse level are typically well-prepared horses with genuine ability.

Mark Casse, recently profiled for his outstanding Belmont Festival performance, is represented by C J Star (4) in Race 4. With Castellano riding, this is a horse in form from a barn that is peaking at the right time.

Kenneth McPeek's presence in Race 1 with Speed Walking (6) is noteworthy at the $41,000 maiden claiming level. McPeek is a nationally active trainer who rarely engages at this price point without a competitive horse. Watch the morning line movement on Speed Walking (6) closely.

Richard Dutrow fields TWO horses in Race 2 (THE BIG CALHOUNA and ALL CLASS ), which is always a significant betting angle. Dutrow's barn has been rebuilding its NYRA presence and a two-horse entry in a $90,000 optional claimer represents genuine investment and confidence in the race.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The strongest play on the card is structural: Chad Brown's Juddmonte homebred Cite Your Sources (10) in Race 4 is the single most well-defined betting opportunity of the day, specifically highlighted by multiple industry sources. While the 1-1 morning line eliminates win pool value, the horse is a near-mandatory single for any Pick 3, Pick 4, or Pick 5 ticket anchored around Race 4.

The afternoon Pick 5 that encompasses Races 4 through 8 is the signature sequence. Using Cite Your Sources (10) as a single in Race 4 frees up significant coverage room in the other four legs. The recommended Pick 5 construction:

Race 4 (Leg 1): CITE YOUR SOURCES (10) — single

Race 5 (Leg 2): INTOTHEWILDERNESS (4), ATHENA’S FURY (11), ROASTED REDS (9) — three horses

Race 6 (Leg 3): LIAM’S LEGACY (2), JUDGE BOUSHAY (3), TERM PREMIUM (5) — three horses

Race 7 (Leg 4): RIGHT TIMING (3), HOT GOSSIP (10), BELLA KNOWS (4) — three horses

Race 8 (Leg 5): AUTHENTIC LEGEND (5), OLD TIME ROCKNROLL (14), INHERENT PROMISE (7) — three horses

A $1 base Pick 5 with this construction costs $81 (1 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81). Given that Race 4 is near-singled and Races 6 and 7 feature dominant favorites, the payoff potential lies in Races 5 and 8, where the field sizes are large and overlay winners are possible.

For the daily double in Races 7-8, the combination of Right Timing (3) over Authentic Legend (5) is the primary play, with Right Timing (3) over Inherent Promise (7) as the alternate.

The best individual race value play on the card is Authentic Legend (5) at 4-1 in Race 8. With an ideal post draw, a respected trainer, and a marquee jockey in a 15-horse field where the two market favorites (OLD TIME ROCKNROLL and RESTLESS RENEGADE ) are structurally disadvantaged by extreme outer posts, Authentic Legend (5) represents the clearest price-versus-post-position overlay of the afternoon.

In Race 2, if the speed duel between The Big Calhouna (1) and My Magic Wand (2) fully materializes, Atarah (6) at 4-1 for Linda Rice becomes the most compelling value win play on the card. If both speed horses post sub-22 first quarters and collapse in the stretch, Atarah (6) has an ideal stalking post and a trainer who engineers exactly this scenario with regularity.

Confirm all jockey changes before placing wagers. Multiple riders are listed on conflicting mounts in Races 4, 5, 7, and 8 — Franco, Prat, Velazquez, Castellano, and Lezcano all have potential conflicts that will be resolved at the scratch box. The horse that loses its marquee jockey and draws a replacement is frequently worth fading, while the horse that retains the top rider against program expectations becomes a sharp-money signal.
