Race Day Overview — Delaware Park, July 9, 2026

Delaware Park returns to action on a nine-race Wednesday card following a busy holiday stretch that included a sobering equine fatality on July 4th, for which the track issued a statement confirming all HISA protocols were followed. The July 9th card is a typical mid-week Delaware affair dominated by claiming races, a maiden special weight turf sprint, and what shapes up as the day's most competitive race — the open allowance optional claimer on the turf in Race 8. The card opens at 12:20 PM Eastern with an 11-furlong claiming sprint for fillies and mares and closes with a maiden $7,500 dirt sprint in Race 9.

Several of the meet's prominent trainers are well-represented today, including Jose Corrales, Gary Capuano, H. Graham Motion, Jamie Ness, and Keri Brion, all of whom have horses entered in multiple races. The Racing Biz's most recent Delaware Park jockey and trainer statistics (July 7) provide useful context for identifying who is running hot at this meet, and those figures factor into today's analysis throughout.

This is a card built for the serious handicapper who can identify class droppers, pace-pressing trip horses, and live turf imports. The mid-card offers the best exotic wagering opportunities, particularly the Race 5 through Race 7 sequence and the Race 8 allowance turf feature.

Weather and Track Conditions — Delaware Park, July 9, 2026

The mid-Atlantic region has been dealing with a heat pattern that forced Monmouth Park to cancel two days of racing during the July 4th holiday week. While Monmouth bore the brunt of that extreme heat, Delaware Park continued to race through the stretch. For July 9th, temperatures in Wilmington, Delaware are expected to be hot and humid, with highs pushing into the low-to-mid 90s and overnight lows not providing much relief. There is a chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms, as is common during July in the Delaware Valley. Bettors should monitor any late scratches or surface changes if storms arrive early.

The main track at Delaware Park is listed as fast for today's card based on current conditions, though the heat and potential for afternoon precipitation mean that could shift to sloppy or good depending on storm timing. The turf course is listed as firm, which will favor closers and horses that can sustain a run through the final quarter. If the course softens to good or yielding following any rain, turf races may see significant form reversals, and horses with European-style breeding or prior experience on softer ground will gain an edge.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis — Delaware Park

Delaware Park's one-mile oval with a tight configuration has historically shown a moderate inside bias on the main track, particularly in routes where horses can save ground around the two turns. In dirt sprints contested around one turn, the bias tends to favor early speed from outside posts when the rail is playing deep, though a fast track usually levels the playing field somewhat. Front-runners and pace-pressers have been performing well in dirt routes at this meet, so horses that can secure a comfortable position in the first flight without burning excessive energy should be favored.

On the turf course, Delaware's inner turf layout rewards horses that can handle tight turns and maintain their run. Outside post positions in turf sprints and routes can be disadvantageous in smaller fields, but in large fields like Race 6 (15 starters) and Race 3 (11 starters), horses drawn between posts 4 and 9 tend to land in the most comfortable striking positions. Very wide posts (10 through 15 in Race 6) create tactical challenges and require extra ground loss, which should be factored heavily in your handicapping of that race.

In dirt routes today — Races 1, 2, 4, 5 — the inside posts are live if the horses have the pace profile to rate or press. Outside posts in route races can find themselves shuffled back early on the bend and forced into two-wide or three-wide trips. This is particularly relevant in Race 1 (11 furlongs) where post position will be a significant factor in pace development.

RACE 1 — Post (12:20) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 7500b | BUM | Purse $16,000

This is a one-mile-and-ten-furlong claiming sprint for fillies and mares, claiming price $7,500 with a $16,000 purse. At this level, consistency matters less than finding horses that are dropping to a price point where they can compete, and pace scenarios at such a long route distance for this class can get complicated quickly. Eight fillies and mares go to the gate.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

The pace in Race 1 is relatively murky at this claiming level. South Boundary (3) looks like a logical pace-setter given her connections with Michael Pino saddling Emanuel Rosario, typically a forward-moving combination. Sister Carlie (1) from the rail may also be content to press or attend the pace from a favorable inside post. Pasila (7) and Chill Bean (6) figure to settle closer to the pace and make a run through the final turn. At nearly two miles on the dirt, stamina will be tested, and the horse that can travel kindly through the middle portions of the race will likely have the most left in the stretch.

Key Contenders

South Boundary (3) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and arrives with the most logical class and pace profile for this spot. Trainer Michael Pino has been active at Delaware this meet, and pairing with Emanuel Rosario — one of the meet's more effective riders — gives this filly a major edge in terms of rider quality at this level. The 2-1 morning line suggests the form holds up on paper, and in a route this long at the $7,500 claiming level, the best-credentialed horse usually gets the job done if she handles the distance.

Chill Bean (6) at 4-1 is the second-shortest price and represents a credible alternative. Trainer Michael Simone has been a consistent presence at Delaware, and Julio Hernandez picks up the mount. This one figures to stalk the pace and could prove difficult to collar if the front-end horses tire late in a race that stretches this far.

Secondary Choices

Naomi An Ruth (2) at 5-1 and Pasila (7) at 5-1 both represent secondary wagering interest. Naomi An Ruth (2) is trained by Jose Corrales, who figures prominently throughout the card and has been one of the meet's hotter trainers. Angel Cruz, the assigned jockey, is capable at this level. Pasila (7) draws trainer Brett Brinkman and jockey Taylor Kingsley, a combination worth monitoring if the distance suits this mare's running style.

Longshots

Sister Carlie (1) at 8-1 from the rail has the advantage of inside post position in a long route but carries enough uncertainty to be passed at this price. Spice Gal (4) at 8-1 with Gavin Ashton aboard is at a price level where a forgiven last effort could make her live, but the trainer Irvin Flores doesn't jump off the page at this meet. Wicked Kitten (5) at 15-1 trained by Jose Ramirez with Raul Mena up is too long to consider seriously without stronger form indicators. Warriors Jewel (8) at 20-1 from the widest post in the field is an extreme longshot and should be passed in straight wagers.

Betting Strategy

Single South Boundary (3) on top of your Race 1 wagers. Use Chill Bean (6) underneath in exactas and the early Pick 3. Naomi An Ruth (2) and Pasila (7) round out your exotics at fair prices. This is not a race to over-invest in, but South Boundary (3) is a clear top pick.

Selections

Win: South Boundary (3) Place: Chill Bean (6) Show: Naomi An Ruth (2)

RACE 2 — Post (12:52) — 1830f | D | C | Clm 5000n2y | BUM | Purse $17,000

A one-mile-and-two-furlong claiming route for fillies and mares that have not won two races, $5,000 claiming price, purse $17,000. Six fillies and mares go postward. This is a small but competitive field where the pace scenario will largely be dictated by Miti Fast Flower (4) and Always Forward (6), both of whom share the 2-1 morning line.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Miti Fast Flower (4) and Always Forward (6) project as the two horses most likely to control the pace. With both at 2-1, there is likely some overlap in their expected running styles, and if they are both forward-movers, the race could set up for a pace-stalker. Lady Arwen (3) at 3-1 may benefit if the two favorites burn each other up on the front end. Alma Brilha (5) and Mabee Luckynwild (1) are at prices that suggest they need a soft pace to be involved.

Key Contenders

Miti Fast Flower (4) draws the attention of trainer Jesus Rodriguez and jockey Kevin Gomez, a pairing that has been productive at Delaware. The 2-1 morning line is shared, which tells us that the morning line maker sees two legitimate contenders, but Miti Fast Flower (4) has the tactical advantage of drawing post 4 in a six-horse field, allowing her to find a comfortable position.

Always Forward (6) for trainer Jose Corrales and jockey Jorge Hernandez is the other 2-1 choice and carries the Corrales barn's current hot form. The outside post (6 in a six-horse field) means she could be forced wide in a route, but Corrales horses tend to be fit and ready, and Always Forward (6) is worth equal respect.

Secondary Choices

Lady Arwen (3) at 3-1 trained by Jose Rodriguez and piloted by Edilberto Dominguez is the natural bridge between the favorites and the longshots. A stalking trip from the inside could prove decisive if the two favorites set up the race for her. This is a horse to include in exactas and trifectas.

Alma Brilha (5) at 6-1 for Daniel Velazquez and Felix Vasquez Jr. is capable of a forward effort if the pace collapses for the leaders. Worth a spot in the trifecta.

Longshots

Mabee Luckynwild (1) at 10-1 from the rail for trainer Pedro Nazario with Emanuel Rosario is a horse that could benefit from the rail post in a route if she can maintain contact early. Rosario is capable of stealing a rail trip but the price says the form doesn't warrant heavy investment. Coal Mine (2) at 15-1 for trainer Freya Gerlach and jockey Shirley Yancapallo Gomocio is a deep longshot that figures to need a lot of help to factor.

Betting Strategy

Box Miti Fast Flower (4) and Always Forward (6) in the exacta and build trifectas using Lady Arwen (3) in the third slot. The Race 2-Race 3 daily double is intriguing given the volatility of the turf maiden in Race 3. Use all three of your top choices here to cover the double into the turf race.

Selections

Win: Miti Fast Flower (4) Place: Always Forward (6) Show: Lady Arwen (3)

RACE 3 — Post (1:24) — 1100f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | AOF | Purse $45,000

An 11-furlong turf sprint for fillies and mares, maiden special weight, $45,000 purse. Eleven fillies and mares go to the gate in what is the day's most wide-open maiden race. This field contains horses from several high-profile stables including H. Graham Motion, Gary Capuano, and Michael Matz, alongside a loaded supporting cast of regional barn runners.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

This is a sprint (though listed at 1100f, which is likely 5.5 furlongs on the turf) with a large field of 11, which means the early pace will be contested. Cat's Meow (5) for Motion and Kevin Gomez is likely the controlling speed or at minimum an aggressive pace-presser. Martiniwithatwist (6) for Gary Capuano with Jose Vargas is another horse that figures to be forwardly placed. In a turf sprint with 11 runners, pace can be chaotic, and the stalkers from the middle of the pack often have the best opportunity.

Key Contenders

Cat's Meow (5) at 2-1 is co-favorited with Martiniwithatwist (6) and carries the prestige of the H. Graham Motion barn, one of the most respected turf operations on the East Coast. Motion's maiden turf sprinters are well-schooled and typically ready to run competitively on debut or following a brief absence. Kevin Gomez picks up the mount and has been a competent rider at Delaware this meet. The post 5 draw is ideal in an 11-horse field.

Martiniwithatwist (6) at 2-1 for Gary Capuano is equally well-regarded. Capuano is a Delaware institution, consistently among the meet leaders in wins, and his turf maidens often show up ready. Jose Vargas is a solid match for a Capuano runner. The 6 post is workable, and this filly is a serious contender for the win.

Secondary Choices

Bourbon N Music (11) at 4-1 is the third choice and merits attention at a price. The Anthony Pecoraro barn and rider Carol Cedeno bring a horse that has likely put in sharp work based on the morning line positioning. Cedeno has been navigating the Delaware meet effectively. The outside post (11) in a turf sprint is manageable if the pace unfolds properly.

Hardscape (2) at 8-1 for Keri Brion is worth including. Brion is having a solid Delaware meet, and Angel Cruz knows this type of horse. An 8-1 turf debutante from a competent grass barn is always live.

Longshots

Springtime Diva (7) at 8-1 is Brion's second entry and shares similar qualifications to Hardscape (2). Having two horses in the race could cause Brion to split rider intent but both deserve respect. Great Destiny (3) and First Blush (4) at 8-1 for trainer Nesvil Hernan Bailon round out the mid-price group. Bailon has two entries, and at 8-1 both are priced for inclusion in the bottom of exotic tickets. Sun Valley (9) at 8-1 for Michael Matz is a prestigious-barn runner that must be considered. Matz has a strong turf pedigree and his maidens often improve with each start. My Sweet 'em (10) at 8-1 for Blake Kelly and Teshawn Hazelwood is a middle-of-the-pack price worth a trifecta spot. Mi Amor Morena (1) at 12-1 from Jose Corrales draws the inside post in a turf sprint, which is a slight advantage if she can settle near the rail. Doe's Lemonade (8) at 15-1 for Jonathan Maldonado and Jesus Rios is the deepest longshot to consider; at 15-1 she can anchor the bottom of a small-bet trifecta.

Betting Strategy

In large maiden turf sprints, spreading is essential. Key Cat's Meow (5) and Martiniwithatwist (6) on top in exactas and use Bourbon N Music (11), Hardscape (2), Sun Valley (9), and Springtime Diva (7) in supporting roles. The Pick 3 starting here with Race 3-4-5 is a prime sequence to target.

Selections

Win: Cat's Meow (5) Place: Martiniwithatwist (6) Show: Bourbon N Music (11)

RACE 4 — Post (1:56) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUN | Purse $16,000

A one-mile-and-ten-furlong claiming route for horses that have not won two races (n-notation), $5,000 claiming price, purse $16,000. Eight horses go to the post. This is a bottom-level route race where class edges can be significant.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Patton's Tizzy (6) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and projects as either the controlling speed or a pace-presser who will be in the mix throughout. Ocala Dream (1) from the rail could also be forwardly placed given the favorable post. Seeking Unity (5) is likely a mid-pack stalker for Simone and Gil. The pace in routes at this class level often stabilizes after an early scramble, and the horse that saves the most ground at the front or just off the pace will have the tactical advantage.

Key Contenders

Patton's Tizzy (6) at 2-1 for trainer Carlos Sepulveda and Carol Cedeno is the class of the field on morning line, though the Sepulveda barn is not a high-profile Delaware outfit. Cedeno, however, has been one of the more effective riders at this meet, and her willingness to dictate terms from any position makes her a live pilot for this type of race. Patton's Tizzy (6) is the horse to beat.

Ocala Dream (1) at 3-1 for Erin McClellan and Inoel Beato draws the rail in a route, which is a double-edged sword — advantageous for ground saving but potentially problematic if blocked. McClellan is an underrated presence at Delaware, and at 3-1 this horse represents legitimate value if the pace sets up favorably.

Secondary Choices

Seeking Unity (5) at 5-1 for Michael Simone and Cipriano Gil is a natural secondary choice. Simone sends out runners that often outperform their prices, and at 5-1 in a field of eight, Seeking Unity (5) is a logical exacta partner with either top choice.

Strategist (7) at 8-1 for Rodolfo Sanchez-Salomon and Emanuel Rosario is intriguing. Rosario picking up a mount in this spot signals some stable confidence, and the 8-1 price could be generous if this horse has improved off its last effort.

Longshots

Sin Permiso (2) at 8-1 for Marco Salazar and Jasmine McGuin, Starship Mocha (4) at 10-1 for Mauricio Nunez and Jesus Suarez, and Artwell (8) at 10-1 for Michelle Castillo and Wesley Ho round out the bottom of the field. None of these represent compelling wagering angles at their respective prices, and they should only be used to anchor the bottom of trifectas. Pierce Elevated (3) at 15-1 for Pedro Nazario and Jose Batista is too long to consider.

Betting Strategy

Patton's Tizzy (6) and Ocala Dream (1) form the core of the exacta. Box those two and add Seeking Unity (5) in the tri. In the Pick 3 (Races 3-4-5), use Patton's Tizzy (6) and Ocala Dream (1) as a pair in Race 4.

Selections

Win: Patton's Tizzy (6) Place: Ocala Dream (1) Show: Seeking Unity (5)

RACE 5 — Post (2:28) — 1830f | D | AO | OClm 62500b | BUN | Purse $48,000

An optional claiming route at $62,500, nine furlongs on the dirt, non-winners of two races other restriction, purse $48,000. Seven horses compete in what is one of the day's top dirt races by purse. This is a sharp little field featuring legitimate mid-level horses, and the pace shape is clearly defined.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Speedyness (6) at 2-1 is likely the lone early pace-setter or controlling speed in this field. Quick To Accuse (3) at 3-1 will likely press or stalk from just behind. Shaft's Bullet (1) for Gary Capuano figures to be positioned close to the pace as well. If Speedyness (6) is indeed the lone speed and gets an uncontested lead, she could wire the field; conversely, if Shaft's Bullet (1) and Quick To Accuse (3) press her from the jump, the race sets up for Tracking Error (7) or Irish Exit (4) to close from off the pace.

Key Contenders

Speedyness (6) at 2-1 for Jamie Ness and Martin Chuan is the morning line favorite and merits the position. Ness has been among the stronger trainers at Delaware this meet with a solid win rate, and the Ness stable has a history of placing horses in spots where they can dominate on the lead. Speedyness (6) likely has a clear early advantage and at this level, a horse that can control the pace without pressure often wins wire to wire.

Quick To Accuse (3) at 3-1 for Panagiotis Synnefias and Julio Hernandez is a legitimate foil. Hernandez has been excellent at Delaware and projects to have Quick To Accuse (3) in a good pressing position. Synnefias is a Greek-rooted trainer with a string of solid Delaware runners, and this is a horse to respect in all exotics.

Secondary Choices

Tracking Error (7) at 4-1 for Greg Compton and Angel Cruz is the natural value play. At 4-1 in a seven-horse field with a clear pace in front of him, Tracking Error (7) could prove to be the best-priced horse on the card in this race. Cruz has the tactical intelligence to rate this horse off a sharp pace and pounce at the right moment. The Compton barn is a quiet but effective presence at Delaware.

Shaft's Bullet (1) at 6-1 for Gary Capuano and Emanuel Rosario warrants attention at the top of exotics. Capuano rarely throws a horse in a stakes-level claiming race without a legitimate reason, and Rosario getting the mount adds further credibility.

Longshots

Irish Exit (4) at 8-1 for Jamie Ness and Cipriano Gil is a second entry from the Ness barn. Ness having two horses in the same race can sometimes signal a stable that is covering its bases — Speedyness (6) is likely the barn's primary weapon, but Irish Exit (4) cannot be dismissed if the pace collapses. Movisitor (5) at 8-1 for Marya Montoya and Francisco Martinez and Union Fleet (2) at 10-1 for Jose Magana and Jean Gregor Briceno are deep longshots that can be added to large trifecta and superfecta wheels.

Betting Strategy

Speedyness (6) to win is the straightforward play. Build exactas using Tracking Error (7) to beat the favorite and box with Quick To Accuse (3). The Pick 3 (Races 3-4-5) anchored by Speedyness (6) in Race 5 with multiple horses in Races 3 and 4 is the day's best vertical wager structure.

Selections

Win: Speedyness (6) Place: Quick To Accuse (3) Show: Tracking Error (7)

RACE 6 — Post (3:00) — 1830f | T | CO | OClm 16000 | BUN | Purse $21,000

An optional claiming route on the turf, nine furlongs, $16,000 claiming price, non-winners restriction, purse $21,000. Fifteen horses are entered in what is a full field and the most logistically complex race of the card. The large field dramatically increases exotic payout potential and makes selectivity critical.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

With 15 horses going nine furlongs on the turf, the pace is expected to be honest in the early stages. Horses in outside posts (10 through 15) will face significant challenges simply navigating the first turn without losing significant ground. Horses from inside posts (1 through 6) that can settle quickly will have the best trips. Babble (5) and Carloun (11) at 5-1 and 4-1 respectively are the shortest prices and figure to be the dominant pace forces, though in a 15-horse turf field, pace prediction is inherently difficult.

Key Contenders

Babble (5) at 4-1 for trainer Nesvil Hernan Bailon and jockey Christian Maldonado is the co-morning line favorite and merits the attention. Post 5 is a prime draw in a 15-horse turf route, allowing this horse to find a comfortable stalking position with room to maneuver. Bailon has been a growing presence at Delaware, and the 4-1 price is fair given the horse's likely positioning.

Carloun (11) at 5-1 for Keri Brion and Martin Chuan is the other standout. Brion is one of the meet's better-regarded turf trainers, and Carloun (11) at post 11 faces the challenge of a wide draw, but Chuan is a talented reinsman capable of finding a good trip from mid-pack in a large field. This is a legitimate contender at a price that rewards backing.

Secondary Choices

Brewmaster (4) at 6-1 for Suzanne Stettinius and Angel Cruz is an attractive play. Post 4 in a 15-horse turf route is ideal, and Cruz's ability to navigate a full field from a favorable position cannot be overstated. Stettinius is a Delaware trainer whose horses often improve on the turf.

Rags To Lace (8) at 6-1 for William Downing and Emanuel Rosario is a second-tier value candidate. Rosario is adept on the turf and Rags To Lace (8) at a comfortable mid-field post has a reasonable chance to find cover and produce a strong finish. Downing is a solid conditioner whose runners at Delaware often outperform expectations.

Longshots

Wicked Boss (12) at 8-1 for Madison Meyers and Kevin Gomez is worth a small-stakes flier in exotics. Ragman (1) at 12-1 for John Collins and Wesley Ho gets the rail in a turf route, which can be a gift or a trap depending on early traffic. Fly Now (2) at 10-1 for Keri Brion and Taylor Kingsley is the barn's second entry after Carloun (11), providing coverage on this trainer's potential. Mentor (7) at 10-1 for Kelly Breen and Carol Cedeno is a horse that typically shows up at longer odds and runs competitively — the Breen barn, though more associated with New Jersey racing, can be effective at Delaware. Jake's Affection (10) at 20-1 and Bold Licorice (9) at 20-1 for Kelly Lynn Deiter, Muthabir (6) at 20-1 for Cesareo Marquez, Merging Traffic (3) at 20-1 for Marya Montoya, and Imperial Spy (15) at 10-1 for Ruperto Perez are extreme longshots that should only be used to anchor the bottom of superfectas in minimum-investment tickets. Real Men Violin (13) at 15-1 for Josue Arce and Lomax (14) at 10-1 for Jonathan Maldonado are deeper plays that can be included in wide exotics.

Betting Strategy

In a 15-horse turf field, exacta boxes and trifecta wheels are more practical than exotic construction. Use Babble (5) and Carloun (11) on top of exactas and key Brewmaster (4) and Rags To Lace (8) to fill out trifectas. The Pick 3 (Races 6-7-8) is a marquee late-card sequence to target, starting with multiple horses in Race 6.

Selections

Win: Babble (5) Place: Carloun (11) Show: Brewmaster (4)

RACE 7 — Post (3:32) — 1210f | D | CO | OClm 15000 | BUM | Purse $25,000

An optional claiming sprint at $15,000, six furlongs on the main track for fillies and mares, purse $25,000. Six horses enter this sprint, which appears to be a highly competitive affair with three horses sharing the 2-1 morning line — a rare occurrence that speaks to how evenly matched this field is.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

With Tennesseehoneybee (2), Peridot Pendant (4), and Glows In The Dark (5) all at 2-1, the pace scenario is the key to unlocking this race. Tennesseehoneybee (2) for Jose Gallegos and Cipriano Gil may look to secure early position in this sprint. Peridot Pendant (4) for Erin McClellan and rider E. Flores is likely a pressurer or stalker. Glows In The Dark (5) for Christopher Seale and Jose Batista rounds out the trio. In a six-horse sprint with three co-favorites, the pace is likely to be honest, which may set up a stalker from behind.

Key Contenders

Tennesseehoneybee (2) at 2-1 for Jose Gallegos and Cipriano Gil is the logical first choice given Gil's current form. Gil has been a consistent presence in the Delaware rider standings and is adept at sprints where pace judgments are made in seconds. The 2-1 price reflects genuine confidence from the morning line maker.

Peridot Pendant (4) at 2-1 for Erin McClellan and E. Flores is an equally credible choice. McClellan has been among the more consistent conditioners at Delaware, particularly with her female sprint runners. Peridot Pendant (4) is the horse to consider if you're looking for an exacta “with” partner for the favorites.

Glows In The Dark (5) at 2-1 for Christopher Seale and Jose Batista rounds out the three-way tie. Batista is a capable jockey whose mounts often outperform expectations at these middle-level claiming prices.

Secondary Choices

Skip Thru Da Fire (1) at 12-1 for Jose Corrales and Emanuel Rosario is the most intriguing secondary play in the field. Corrales is having a strong meet and Rosario is among the top riders in the standings. At 12-1 in a competitive sprint, a Corrales-Rosario combination at double-digit odds is worth a small win investment and should be included in exotics. If the three co-favorites neutralize each other, Skip Thru Da Fire (1) could be the beneficiary.

Longshots

Misspent (3) at 12-1 for Richard Vega and Martin Chuan and Blessed Candy (6) at 10-1 for Antonio Machado and Julio Hernandez round out the field. Blessed Candy (6) at 10-1 is the more interesting of the two at the price — Hernandez has been sharp at this meet and the outside post in a six-horse sprint is not as detrimental as it would be in a larger field. A small place bet on Blessed Candy (6) has merit. Misspent (3) at 12-1 needs significant help to factor and is a minor exotic inclusion at best.

Betting Strategy

With three co-favorites, this race is built for exacta boxes. Box Tennesseehoneybee (2), Peridot Pendant (4), and Glows In The Dark (5) and add Skip Thru Da Fire (1) as an upset option. The Pick 3 (Races 6-7-8) continuation is most effective here by using two or three horses from the co-favorite trio in Race 7.

Selections

Win: Tennesseehoneybee (2) Place: Glows In The Dark (5) Show: Skip Thru Da Fire (1)

RACE 8 — Post (4:04) — 1830f | T | A | Alw 46000n1x | BUM | Purse $46,000

An allowance turf route at nine furlongs for fillies and mares, non-winners of one race other than maiden, claiming, or starter, $46,000 purse. Twelve horses enter in the day's premier race, featuring high-quality trainers and a competitive morning line. This race will determine the day's best exotic payout opportunities on a per-race basis.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Soul Dance (11) at 4-1 for H. Graham Motion and Julio Hernandez is likely to be patient from mid-pack in a 12-horse turf route. Call Her Bluff (6) for Jamie Ness and Martin Chuan might press or sit second. Starship Athena (9) at 4-1 for Michelle Nevin and Angel Cruz is the other headline name and shapes as a pace-presser or stalker. In allowance turf routes at this level, honest paces are typical, and the horse with the best late kick usually prevails.

Key Contenders

Soul Dance (11) at 4-1 for H. Graham Motion and Julio Hernandez is the marquee horse of the day. Motion's grass runners are widely respected, and a horse pointing for this allowance condition from a Motion barn typically arrives in peak form. Hernandez's current form at Delaware is excellent, and the pairing of the meet's best turf trainer with one of the meet's hotter riders is a formidable combination. Soul Dance (11) is the single bet of the card.

Starship Athena (9) at 4-1 for Michelle Nevin and Angel Cruz is equally priced and equally dangerous. The post 9 draw in a 12-horse turf route is workable, and Cruz's recent form at Delaware has been strong. Nevin is a sharp conditioner whose turf runners consistently run to or above their odds. This is a horse to include in all exotics with Soul Dance (11).

Secondary Choices

Racey Ruby (3) at 5-1 for M.L. Catalano Jr. and D.E. Centeno is a legitimate threat. Catalano trains a solid book of horses and at 5-1 the price may be slightly generous. From post 3, Racey Ruby (3) has a prime draw to find a ground-saving trip close to the pace.

Doesn'thurttoflirt (2) at 6-1 for Michael Stidham and Gavin Ashton is a name to notice. Stidham is a national-level trainer who occasionally sends horses to Delaware for spots like this, and when horses from his barn appear in allowance turf routes, they typically run to form.

Longshots

Le Touche (7) at 8-1 for Jose Gallegos and Cipriano Gil is a fair-priced longshot who could hit the board at rewarding odds. Call Her Bluff (6) at 10-1 for Jamie Ness and Martin Chuan is interesting given the Ness barn's current form. Intrepids Fantasy (8) at 10-1 for Gary Capuano and Emanuel Rosario is a Capuano turf runner that always deserves consideration — Capuano trains his grass horses to peak on race day, and Rosario is a reliable pilot. Put A Rock On It (10) at 10-1 for Kieron Magee and Ismerio Villalobos is a horse worth a flier at double-digit odds if the form supports it. Maximo Madness (12) at 10-1 for Brandon Kulp and Angel Rodriguez rounds out the outer ring of the field. Let's Dance Again (5) at 12-1 for Jonathan Maldonado and Jesus Rios, Hola Gata (1) at 15-1 for Dimitrios Synnefias and Luis Rivera Jr., and Caprichosainfront (4) at 20-1 for Jose Ramirez and Carol Cedeno are deep longshots that can be added to wide superfecta wheels only.

Betting Strategy

Key Soul Dance (11) on top in exactas with Starship Athena (9), Racey Ruby (3), and Doesn'thurttoflirt (2). In the Pick 3 (Races 6-7-8), Soul Dance (11) should be the anchor in Race 8. The single most important wager of the card is a win bet on Soul Dance (11).

Selections

Win: Soul Dance (11) Place: Starship Athena (9) Show: Racey Ruby (3)

RACE 9 — Post (4:36) — 1210f | D | M | Md 7500 | BUM | Purse $14,000

A maiden $7,500 sprint at six furlongs on the dirt for fillies and mares, $14,000 purse. Eight horses close out the card in the cheapest race of the day. These are horses that have been unable to win and are competing at a basement claiming price — form can be unreliable and pace analysis is paramount.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

Cloud Kisses (4) at 2-1 and Chestertown Jane (6) at 2-1 share the morning line favor, setting up a contested early pace. Both horses figure to be forwardly placed, and if they press each other early in a six-furlong sprint, the closers could have an opportunity. Confrontational (5) and Lend Creedence (8) are at prices that suggest they may sit off the pace and try to close.

Key Contenders

Cloud Kisses (4) at 2-1 for trainer Steven Dye and jockey Teshawn Hazelwood figures as the top selection. Dye is a trainer to watch at Delaware, and Cloud Kisses (4) at post 4 is ideally positioned for a prompt getaway in a sprint. The 2-1 price reflects genuine morning line confidence.

Chestertown Jane (6) at 2-1 for trainer Ben Perkins Jr. and jockey Jose Batista is an equally valid choice. Perkins is a Delaware staple who conditions his horses to peak performance at this meet, and Batista has been solid throughout the card today.

Secondary Choices

Confrontational (5) at 8-1 for Pedro Nazario and Edilberto Dominguez is a price horse that merits consideration. Nazario has runners throughout this card and Confrontational (5) could outrun the 8-1 morning line if the pace collapses ahead of her.

Lend Creedence (8) at 8-1 for Kelly Lynn Deiter and Carol Cedeno is the second pick in the secondary. Deiter has multiple entries on the card today and Cedeno has been productive at this meet. At 8-1 in a maiden $7,500 sprint, this horse is live at the price.

Longshots

Tap You Are It (1) at 10-1 for Kelly Lynn Deiter and Kevin Gomez is interesting as a third Deiter entry on the card — trainers with multiple runners often have one that exceeds expectations, and Tap You Are It (1) at the rail in a sprint at 10-1 could be that horse. Citified (3) at 10-1 for Donald Bryant and Ajhari Williams is a longshot to add to trifecta wheels. Let 'er Sizzle (2) at 12-1 for Mario Roberto Lopez and Sara Hess and Rosie's Fortune (7) at 15-1 for Irvin Flores and Gavin Ashton are both at prices that don't justify serious investment without stronger form indicators.

Betting Strategy

Box Cloud Kisses (4) and Chestertown Jane (6) in the exacta and build the trifecta with Confrontational (5) and Lend Creedence (8) underneath. This is not a race to over-invest on financially, but the exacta box at even money across two horses can return a reasonable price.

Selections

Win: Cloud Kisses (4) Place: Chestertown Jane (6) Show: Confrontational (5)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Emanuel Rosario is one of the busiest and most effective riders on this card, appearing in Races 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 across six different trainers' barns. His presence on South Boundary (3) in Race 1 and Speedyness (6)'s top rival context in Race 5 via Shaft's Bullet (1) demonstrates the breadth of demand for his services this meet. Rosario is a strong route rider and his ability to manage distance and pace makes him particularly dangerous in today's dirt route-heavy lower card.

Angel Cruz appears in Races 1, 3, 6, 8, and 9, representing multiple barns including Jose Corrales, Suzanne Stettinius, and Michelle Nevin. Cruz has been riding with consistent efficiency at Delaware this meet, and his late-card mounts on Starship Athena (9) in Race 8 and Brewmaster (4) in Race 6 are two of his most appealing engagements. Cruz's versatility across dirt and turf surfaces is an asset on a card with this many turf races.

Julio Hernandez is engaged in Races 1, 3, 5, 7, and 8 with notable mounts on Quick To Accuse (3) in Race 5 and Soul Dance (11) in Race 8. His partnership with Soul Dance (11) in the feature race under the Motion barn banner is the day's most compelling jockey-trainer-horse combination. Hernandez has been riding confidently at this meet and his win percentage reflects steady improvement through the summer.

Martin Chuan rides in Races 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8, covering turf races almost exclusively in the second half of the card. His mount on Carloun (11) in Race 6 for trainer Keri Brion is one of his stronger engagements, and his work on Speedyness (6) in Race 5 for Jamie Ness is equally significant. Chuan has built a reputation as a reliable turf jockey who can navigate larger fields.

Carol Cedeno rides in Races 1, 4, 6, 8, and 9, with notable mounts on Patton's Tizzy (6) in Race 4 and Lend Creedence (8) in Race 9. Cedeno has been one of the more productive female riders at Delaware in recent meets and her tactical awareness in route races gives her an edge in the middle of the card.

Cipriano Gil is active in Races 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. His most important engagement is on Tennesseehoneybee (2) in Race 7, where he has a legitimate shot at a co-favorite's price. Gil is known for sprints and his work in Race 7 will be the benchmark for his afternoon.

Jose Batista rides in Races 3, 4, 7, and 9 with a spread of longshot mounts that could make him relevant in exactas and trifectas. His work on Glows In The Dark (5) in Race 7 at 2-1 is the ride of his day.

Kevin Gomez is active in Races 2, 3, 8, and 9 with his most significant mount being Cat's Meow (5) in Race 3 for Motion. Gomez has been steadily productive at Delaware and the Motion connection in Race 3 elevates his afternoon profile.

Trainer Notes and Insights

H. Graham Motion has two entries today — Cat's Meow (5) in Race 3 and Soul Dance (11) in Race 8. Motion is one of the preeminent turf trainers on the East Coast, and his maiden turf sprinters and allowance turf horses are reliably competitive. Both horses deserve maximum respect, with Soul Dance (11) being the day's primary selection.

Gary Capuano is represented in Races 3, 5, and 8 through Martiniwithatwist (6), Shaft's Bullet (1), and Intrepids Fantasy (8). Capuano consistently ranks near the top of Delaware Park's trainer standings and his horses rarely run poorly in spots where they are meant to compete. Martiniwithatwist (6) in Race 3 at 2-1 is a Capuano runner at a price where the market sees a genuine chance.

Jamie Ness saddles Speedyness (6) and Irish Exit (4) in Race 5 and Call Her Bluff (6) in Race 8. Ness has been an effective trainer at Delaware across several meets, and his willingness to enter two horses in Race 5 suggests the barn has live options in that race. Speedyness (6) is the primary Ness runner but Irish Exit (4) cannot be dismissed.

Jose Corrales has entries in Races 1, 2, 7, and 8. Corrales is in excellent current form based on meet standings through July 7, and his horses — Naomi An Ruth (2) in Race 1, Always Forward (6) in Race 2, Skip Thru Da Fire (1) in Race 7, and Mi Amor Morena (1) in Race 3 — all deserve market-beating consideration relative to their morning line odds. The Corrales barn is the single most active stable on this card.

Keri Brion has three entries — Hardscape (2) and Springtime Diva (7) in Race 3 and Carloun (11) and Fly Now (2) in Race 6. Brion is one of Delaware's more successful turf trainers during the summer meet, and having two entries in both Race 3 and Race 6 gives her maximum coverage in the two largest turf fields of the day.

Pedro Nazario saddles runners in Races 1, 4, and 9. His horse South Boundary (3) in Race 1 is the morning line favorite and the top pick in that race. His other entries are at longer prices and serve as secondary considerations.

Michael Simone appears in Races 1 and 4 with Chill Bean (6) and Seeking Unity (5). Simone is a low-profile but consistent Delaware conditioner whose horses often outrun their morning lines at mid-range claiming prices.

Kelly Lynn Deiter has a busy card with Tap You Are It (1), Lend Creedence (8) in Race 9, and Jake's Affection (10) and Bold Licorice (9) in Race 6. Having four entries across the card is unusual and worth noting — Deiter runners tend to be fit when entered in multiple races on the same program.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The single most actionable play on this card is a win bet on Soul Dance (11) in Race 8. The Motion-Hernandez combination in an allowance turf route is the highest-confidence selection of the afternoon, and the 4-1 morning line represents fair value on a horse from a barn that rarely lets one get away at this level.

For vertical wagering, the Pick 3 spanning Races 5-6-7 is the mid-card prime sequence. Use Speedyness (6) in Race 5, spread to four or five horses in the 15-horse Race 6 field (Babble (5), Carloun (11), Brewmaster (4), Rags To Lace (8)), and box two or three of the co-favorites in Race 7. This structure gives reasonable coverage across three races with solid value potential given the large field in Race 6 creating generous pool carryover.

The Pick 3 spanning Races 6-7-8 is the late-card power sequence. Use multiple horses in Race 6, two or three co-favorites in Race 7, and Soul Dance (11) as a single in Race 8. This is a lower-cost ticket given Soul Dance (11) as a single anchor, and it can produce a significant return if the correct combinations hit.

For exacta value, Race 7 stands out as the most playable. The three co-favorites at 2-1 create an exacta pool that may be less churned than typical odds-level races because the public tends to overbet the most likely winner rather than building logical exacta combinations. Boxing Tennesseehoneybee (2), Peridot Pendant (4), and Glows In The Dark (5) in a $2 box costs $12 and any combination should return at a price. Adding Skip Thru Da Fire (1) as a fourth leg in a larger $1 box at $12 for six combinations is a modest investment with meaningful upset potential.

In Race 6 with 15 horses, the trifecta pool will be large and the payoffs potentially significant. Focus on Babble (5) and Carloun (11) on top with Brewmaster (4), Rags To Lace (8), and Fly Now (2) filling the second and third slots. A partial wheel with Babble (5) and Carloun (11) on top, four horses in the middle, and five horses at the bottom is the recommended structure for a $0.50 trifecta at a reasonable total investment.

For the early Pick 4 (Races 1-2-3-4), use South Boundary (3) in Race 1, Miti Fast Flower (4) and Always Forward (6) in Race 2, Cat's Meow (5) and Martiniwithatwist (6) in Race 3, and Patton's Tizzy (6) and Ocala Dream (1) in Race 4. This 1x2x2x2 structure produces eight combinations at $0.50 each for a $4 total investment, and the potential return on a clean sweep of the favorites-heavy lower card would be modest but steady. Adding a second Race 3 line with Bourbon N Music (11) to catch the longshot expands coverage to twelve combinations at $6 total.

The best overall value on the card is a two-horse exacta key with Soul Dance (11) on top over Starship Athena (9), Racey Ruby (3), and Doesn'thurttoflirt (2) in Race 8. This $2 key (three combinations) costs $6 and at 4-1 for Soul Dance (11) the exactas should return meaningful prices.
