Race Day Overview — Finger Lakes Racetrack, October 27, 2026

Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, New York wraps up another late-October card with eight races spanning allowance, maiden, and claiming conditions. The meet is in its final stretch, and the competition reflects the regional nature of the circuit — a mix of lightly raced horses moving through conditions, seasoned claimers, and a few horses making strategic drops that bettors will want to monitor closely.

The card opens with a pair of strong allowance events bookending the afternoon. Race 1 is an allowance non-winners of one other than at 11½ furlongs on the dirt, an unusual distance that will put a premium on stamina and pace management. The feature allowance, Race 7, is a non-winners of three lifetime going the same 11½ furlongs, carrying the card's richest purse at $26,900. In between, bettors get a diet of maiden and claiming contests ranging from $4,000 to $11,000 claiming, with maiden special weight not on the menu today — the maiden events are straight maiden claiming affairs that typically attract horses with some experience and a history of near-misses.

No major scratches have been reported ahead of first post. The Breeders' Cup is days away at Del Mar, and the Keeneland November Sale buzz continues to circulate in the industry, but none of that affects what is essentially a domestic, working-class card at Finger Lakes. Trainers like M. Anthony Ferraro, Chris Englehart, Luis A. Gutierrez, and Paul Barrow dominate the entries today, as they typically do at this circuit, and their patterns and angles will be discussed throughout.

Weather and Track Conditions

Late October at Finger Lakes in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York brings characteristically cold, brisk conditions. Temperatures on October 27, 2026 are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 40s Fahrenheit at post time, with a wind chill making it feel closer to the low 40s. A mix of clouds and limited sunshine is anticipated, with no significant precipitation expected during the racing day.

The dirt track is expected to be rated fast or good. The recent stretch of cool, dry weather in the region has kept the main track in manageable condition. A fast track favors horses with early speed that can clear the field and control fractions, which has been a recurring theme at Finger Lakes in the autumn months. Horses with strong early foot will have a meaningful advantage, particularly in the sprint races on the card.

There is no turf course in play today, and the inner dirt configuration is not in use. All eight races are on the main dirt oval.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Finger Lakes is a five-eighths-mile oval, which makes it a relatively tight, short track. On a fast main track, the rail and inside posts are not necessarily the automatic advantage they might be at larger tracks. However, in route races at this venue — particularly the 11½-furlong events in Races 1, 4, and 7 — inside posts can be a burden if a horse is forced to stalk in a two-wide trip around multiple turns.

For the sprint distances (6 furlongs at 1,210 feet and 6½ furlongs at 1,320 feet), outside posts can actually be more forgiving, as horses break into the turn more cleanly and have room to establish position. When the track is fast, early speed has historically been rewarded at Finger Lakes, and horses that can settle near the front without being pressured hard tend to wire or win by rail-saving moves.

In route races, pace collapse is a genuine concern. If a lone speed horse gets uncontested fractions at the front, the closer's task becomes dramatically harder on a short track where the backstretch run is abbreviated. Bettors should identify any lone-speed scenarios in the route races, particularly in Races 1, 4, and 7.

Post position bias on the dirt at Finger Lakes in recent weeks has leaned slightly toward middle posts in sprints, where horses can break cleanly without being trapped on the rail or four-wide into the first turn. Inside posts in the routes are workable but require jockey awareness in early traffic.

RACE 1 — Post (12:55)/11:55/10:55/9:55 — 1830f | D | A | Alw 24500n1x | BUN | Purse $24,500

Seven horses line up for this 11½-furlong allowance, non-winners of one other than. This is a quality spot for the opener, and the field reflects horses that have either broken their maiden recently and are stepping into allowance company for the first time, or horses trying to duplicate a prior allowance win in a similar condition. The distance is testing — 11½ furlongs around the tight Finger Lakes oval requires genuine staying power and tactical versatility.

Pace Analysis

With Beach Invasion (3) and Free Dance (7) both installed as 2-1 morning line co-favorites, the pace picture hinges on who goes to the front. Maturation (1) and Janssen (4) figure to have some early interest, while Shortsinthewinter (5) and Aelfgar (6) are likely to sit off the pace. If Beach Invasion (3) and Free Dance (7) are both early types, the fractions could be honest to hot, setting up any closers in the field. If the pace is contested from the jump, this race becomes more interesting for horses sitting third or fourth early.

Key Contenders

Free Dance (7), trained by Chris Englehart and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, is the horse to beat in the eyes of many handicappers. Englehart is one of the most respected and active conditioners on the Finger Lakes circuit, consistently placing horses in spots where they can win. Free Dance (7) at 2-1 is likely to attract significant support and commands respect on name alone given the barn. Worrie has been one of the more reliable riders on the circuit this fall, and the outside post at this distance, while requiring some distance covered, is workable given the shape of the race. If Free Dance (7) has the class edge and Englehart freshened this horse for this spot, expect a professional effort.

Beach Invasion (3), handled by M. Anthony Ferraro and Keiber J. Coa, is the other 2-1 shot in the morning line. Ferraro is arguably the most dominant trainer at Finger Lakes over the past several years, and when he sends out a co-favorite, it deserves serious attention. Coa is the leading jockey by most metrics on the circuit, and the combination of Ferraro and Coa in a prime spot is one of the most reliable angles on the card. Beach Invasion (3) from Post 3 gets a clean break opportunity and should be forwardly placed.

Secondary Choices

Maturation (1), trained by Luis A. Gutierrez and ridden by N.R. Alvarado, is at 4-1 on the morning line and figures to be involved in the early pace from the rail. Gutierrez has a capable barn at Finger Lakes and Maturation (1) at the inside post will need to avoid trouble while establishing position. If the pace collapses and Maturation (1) can steal into a comfortable spot near the lead, the rail post becomes an advantage in the stretch at this distance. Alvarado is a seasoned rider who understands how to manage a route at this track.

Janssen (4), trained by Julie Pierson and ridden by O.K. Hernandez, is the 8-1 morning line shot who could be a price play. Pierson is a steady trainer who occasionally fires a live one at a price, and Post 4 is a good draw for this distance. If the pace is truly honest between the two favorites, Janssen (4) could be the fresh horse running through late.

Longshots

Shortsinthewinter (5), trained by Stacy Torelli and ridden by Steven Fret, is at 10-1 and unlikely to factor unless pace falls apart dramatically. Eric From Miami (2), trained by Timothy P. Murphy and ridden by M.A. Davila Jr., is at 12-1 and appears outgunned in this allowance spot. Aelfgar (6), trained by Rachel Sells and ridden by Emanuel De Diego, is also at 12-1 and the longest shot in the field by morning line. None of these three present a compelling betting case, though Shortsinthewinter (5) in the middle of the pack is not impossible if the two favorites hook each other and neither can sustain.

Betting Strategy

The Ferraro/Coa combination with Beach Invasion (3) is hard to oppose, and Free Dance (7) from the Englehart barn is equally respected. A straight exacta pairing Beach Invasion (3) over Free Dance (7) and Free Dance (7) over Beach Invasion (3) is the core play. Add Maturation (1) underneath for trifecta coverage. At 2-1, neither favorite offers much win value, so exacta and trifecta construction is the most efficient approach.

Selections

Win: Beach Invasion (3) Place: Free Dance (7) Show: Maturation (1)

RACE 2 — Post (1:24)/12:24/11:24/10:24 — 1320f | D | M | Md 11000 | BUM | Purse $17,000

Six maiden claimers at 6½ furlongs on the dirt. A field of females trying to break their maiden at the $11,000 maiden claiming level — a modest condition at Finger Lakes that often attracts horses with some experience but questionable back class. Sorting out who has the most class and the best recent form is the central task.

Pace Analysis

Froghollowsummer (2) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and will likely control or press the early pace. Lively Pal (5) at 3-1 and She's A Goddess (1) at 4-1 may also have early foot. If multiple horses go after each other in the opening quarter, the closers She's A Goddess (1) and Gattatiz (4) could be the beneficiaries. The six-horse field is small enough that pace scenarios are relatively clean to project.

Key Contenders

Froghollowsummer (2), trained by Lisa A. Reed and ridden by Steven Fret, is the morning line favorite at 2-1. Reed is a competent trainer at this level and Froghollowsummer (2) from Post 2 gets an ideal draw for a presser or pace-setter. Fret has been a dependable rider at Finger Lakes and should have this horse in good position from the start.

Lively Pal (5), trained by Chris Englehart and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, is 3-1 on the morning line. The Englehart barn angle carries significant weight, especially in maiden company where trainer skill can bridge the gap in competitive ability. Lively Pal (5) from Post 5 gets a middle draw and Worrie should be able to navigate from a stalking position. Englehart's maiden success rate at Finger Lakes this meet is worth noting, and this horse warrants serious consideration.

She's A Goddess (1), trained by M. Anthony Ferraro and ridden by Keiber J. Coa, is the other 4-1 shot. The Ferraro/Coa combination appears again on the card, and in maiden claiming company, the rail post is workable at 6½ furlongs. Coa's ability to get a good break from the inside and save ground is a real advantage here. If the pace sets up favorably, She's A Goddess (1) could be the best horse in the field given the barn's track record.

Secondary Choices

Gattatiz (4), trained by Harold James Bond and ridden by Reylu Gutierrez, is co-listed at 4-1. Bond is a quiet trainer who occasionally places horses effectively, and Gattatiz (4) from Post 4 gets a clean trip from the outside. Reylu Gutierrez has been effective at the meet and this pairing is worth watching in the wagering windows.

Klum (3), trained by Paul Barrow and ridden by O. Gomez, is 5-1. Barrow is another active trainer on the circuit and Klum (3) could be a sneaky price in a wide-open six-horse field.

Longshots

Southern Trouble (6), trained by Luis A. Gutierrez and ridden by O.K. Hernandez, is at 20-1 and faces an uphill battle from the outside post in a small field. Without compelling evidence of recent form improvement, Southern Trouble (6) is a throwout in this spot.

Betting Strategy

The Ferraro/Coa combination with She's A Goddess (1) at 4-1 offers the best value in this race. Lively Pal (5) under Englehart is the other horse to include. Exacta construction pairing She's A Goddess (1) and Lively Pal (5) with Froghollowsummer (2) covering all three in a $2 partial wheel makes sense. The morning line favorite Froghollowsummer (2) is beatable at the price.

Selections

Win: She's A Goddess (1) Place: Lively Pal (5) Show: Froghollowsummer (2)

RACE 3 — Post (1:53)/12:53/11:53/10:53 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 4000n1y | BUM | Purse $11,200

Six fillies and mares in a six-furlong claiming event at $4,000 for non-winners in the past year. This is the cheapest condition on the card and the most unpredictable race of the afternoon. Non-winners in the past year claiming races tend to attract horses coming back from extended layoffs, horses in physical decline, or horses that have been particularly unlucky. Sorting through this field requires a careful look at recency, trainer intent, and jockey quality.

Pace Analysis

My Royal Vow (3) and Hypnocurrency (6) share the 2-1 morning line co-favorite billing. Both are likely to attract early support and one or both may be forwardly placed. If this race develops into an honest pace duel, horses sitting off the speed like Peggy Rules (1) and Only In My Dreams (2) could come running. The short six-furlong trip means pace collapse is a real concern if one horse gets an uncontested lead.

Key Contenders

Hypnocurrency (6), trained by James M. Pettine and ridden by Steven Fret, is one of the co-favorites at 2-1. Fret's availability and Pettine's ability to condition horses at the low-claiming level make this a horse to respect. From Post 6, Hypnocurrency (6) gets a fair outside draw and Fret can find a comfortable spot early. At $4,000 non-winners in the past year, Pettine may be returning this horse after a freshening for a targeted win attempt.

My Royal Vow (3), trained by Paul Barrow and ridden by O. Gomez, is the other 2-1 morning line co-favorite. Barrow appears with Klum (3) in Race 2 as well, and managing multiple horses on a card speaks to the barn's activity level. My Royal Vow (3) from Post 3 gets a clean middle draw, and Gomez is a reliable rider in these conditions. If My Royal Vow (3) has natural early speed, Post 3 is an excellent spot to press or stalk the early leader.

Secondary Choices

Peggy Rules (1), trained by Jon G. Arnett and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, is at 4-1 from the inside post. Arnett is a trainer who understands the Finger Lakes circuit and Worrie is a capable pilot. The rail at six furlongs is not a significant disadvantage in sprint races here, and Peggy Rules (1) at 4-1 could be a solid each-way bet if she has enough early pace to avoid getting shuffled back.

Only In My Dreams (2), trained by David Oyola and ridden by M.A. Davila Jr., is also at 4-1. Oyola has horses on the card today, including Double Shot (2) in Race 5, and the trainer's presence suggests these horses are prepared to compete. Only In My Dreams (2) from Post 2 is in a manageable spot.

Longshots

Honey In The Bank (4), trained by Thalia Areche and ridden by John C. Berrios, is 12-1. This is not a barn or rider combination that generates confidence in cheap claiming company, and the odds reflect the lack of support. Hazard Pay (5), trained by Glenroy Brown and ridden by Jose Ventura, is 15-1 and faces even longer odds of finding a path to the winner's circle at this condition. Both can be used lightly in exotic coverage but neither warrants a serious win investment.

Betting Strategy

The $4,000 claimer is a tough race to bet confidently, but the co-favorites are well-priced and the field is small. A small exacta box of Hypnocurrency (6) and My Royal Vow (3) is the core play. Add Peggy Rules (1) in third for trifecta coverage. Avoid overinvesting in this race given the modest purse and unpredictable condition.

Selections

Win: Hypnocurrency (6) Place: My Royal Vow (3) Show: Peggy Rules (1)

RACE 4 — Post (2:22)/1:22/12:22/11:22 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 5000n3l | BUN | Purse $13,800

Seven horses line up in this 11½-furlong claiming event for non-winners of three lifetime at $5,000. The longer distance at the claiming level invites horses with stamina and a willingness to grind. The Ferraro barn has two entries — Percy (3) and Grand Warrior (5) — which is always a factor to note. When a trainer sends out multiple horses in the same race, one is typically the preferred runner, and the rider assignments are often the tell.

Pace Analysis

Celtic Prince (4) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and presumably has early speed or a tactical profile that fits the long distance. If Celtic Prince (4) goes to the front uncontested, the race can become a wire job at this distance on the tight Finger Lakes oval. Percy (3) and Grand Warrior (5) from Ferraro may have different running styles, which gives the barn tactical flexibility. Renaissance Man (2) and Notfanutin (6) are likely to sit off the early pace.

Key Contenders

Celtic Prince (4), trained by Keri Brion and ridden by Reylu Gutierrez, is the morning line favorite at 2-1. Gutierrez has been active and effective at the meet, and Celtic Prince (4) from Post 4 is ideally positioned. Brion is a trainer who places horses with intention, and a morning line of 2-1 in a seven-horse field reflects a strong case for this horse's ability. The non-winners of three lifetime condition is a gateway condition, and if Celtic Prince (4) has been knocking on the door, this could be the spot.

Grand Warrior (5), trained by M. Anthony Ferraro and ridden by Keiber J. Coa, is 5-1 in the morning line. Coa's assignment on Grand Warrior (5) versus L.E. Perez on Percy (3) is a strong tell that Ferraro prefers Grand Warrior (5). The Ferraro/Coa combination in the feature spot of this barn's two entries should be the primary selection from the Ferraro stable.

Secondary Choices

Notfanutin (6), trained by Katlynn Gutterson and ridden by Emanuel De Diego, is at 4-1 alongside Percy (3). Gutterson has two horses on the card today — Renaissance Man (2) and Notfanutin (6) — and the 4-1 morning line on Notfanutin (6) suggests it is this barn's preferred runner in this spot. De Diego is an underrated rider who often delivers at prices. Notfanutin (6) from Post 6 could be a live longshot play.

Percy (3), the other Ferraro entry ridden by L.E. Perez at 4-1, is the second-string option from the barn but cannot be entirely dismissed given Ferraro's record. In a route race, even the second Ferraro horse is worth including in multi-race exotic plays.

Longshots

Bolt To Run (1), trained by Ramon Vasquez and ridden by Luis Pena, is at 10-1 from the inside post. The inside rail at 11½ furlongs is a challenging spot. Renaissance Man (2), trained by Katlynn Gutterson and ridden by Wladimir Rengifo, is 8-1 and represents the barn's lesser option. The Brown Egg (7), trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by Joel Cruz, is 6-1 and not without a chance from the outside post if the pace devolves. Baker has a horse in the Race 7 feature, and The Brown Egg (7) could be a sneaky inclusion in trifectas.

Betting Strategy

Grand Warrior (5) at 5-1 with the Ferraro/Coa combination is the value play in this race. Celtic Prince (4) deserves top-choice billing but is skinny at 2-1. An exacta of Celtic Prince (4) and Grand Warrior (5) with some trifecta coverage including Notfanutin (6) is the preferred structure. Gutterson's two-horse entry is worth a look in exotics.

Selections

Win: Grand Warrior (5) Place: Celtic Prince (4) Show: Notfanutin (6)

RACE 5 — Post (2:51)/1:51/12:51/11:51 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUN | Purse $14,000

Nine horses in a six-and-a-half furlong claiming race at $5,000 for three-year-olds and up. The “b” designation indicates no restrictions on breeding or eligibility beyond standard claiming terms. This is a full, nine-horse field for a claiming sprint, and the crowded gate will make early position critical. Multiple horses could press for the front, and pace collapse is a legitimate concern.

Pace Analysis

Three Little Birds (9) at 4-1 and Double Shot (2) at 4-1 are the co-morning line favorites, but the 3-1 on Breaking Stones (3) suggests it is also expected to be competitive. With nine horses, early traffic is a serious factor. Breaking Stones (3), Double Shot (2), and Profitability (8) could all be near the front early, creating a pace duel that sets up late runners. Heads Or Tails (1) from the Englehart barn could sit behind the pace and make a move.

Key Contenders

Three Little Birds (9), trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by L.E. Perez, is a co-morning line favorite at 4-1 from the outside post. Baker has Cararra (7) in Race 6 and The Brown Egg (7) in Race 4, giving him multiple opportunities on the card. The outside post at 6½ furlongs can be a hindrance, but if Three Little Birds (9) has natural early speed, Perez can push for inside position on the turn. Baker's horses tend to be fit and ready when they run.

Breaking Stones (3), trained by Paul Barrow and ridden by Jeremias Flores, is 3-1 in the morning line. Barrow has multiple entries on today's card and is one of the more reliable trainers at Finger Lakes. Post 3 is an excellent draw at 6½ furlongs, and Flores is a capable rider who can take advantage of the middle post. If Breaking Stones (3) has the early speed profile, Barrow has set this horse up in a favorable spot.

Double Shot (2), trained by David Oyola and ridden by M.A. Davila Jr., is the other co-favorite at 4-1. Oyola's barn is active today, and Post 2 is a fine draw for a presser or pace-setter. Davila is an experienced rider at the meet who can navigate a nine-horse field from the inside draw.

Secondary Choices

Heads Or Tails (1), trained by Chris Englehart and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, is at 8-1. Englehart placing a horse at 8-1 morning line in a nine-horse field is slightly surprising if the horse is meant to be a serious contender. However, when Englehart drops horses into claiming company, they often run better than expected. Heads Or Tails (1) could be a live longshot if the pace meltdown sets up a late-running scenario.

Profitability (8), trained by M. Anthony Ferraro and ridden by Joel Cruz, is at 6-1. Ferraro's presence in the race carries its usual weight, and Post 8 in a nine-horse sprint is not ideal, but Cruz is experienced enough to navigate. Profitability (8) at 6-1 with Ferraro's record is worth including in exotics.

Longshots

Winston D (6), trained by Rachel Sells and ridden by O. Gomez, is at 6-1. Sells has Aelfgar (6) in Race 1 and Fiscal Drag (7) in Race 7, and Winston D (6) represents the barn's sprint entry. Mister J T (7), trained by Karl Grusmark and ridden by O.K. Hernandez, is at 12-1 and is a throwout unless pace conditions are extremely favorable. Allure Of Money (5), trained by Timothy P. Murphy and ridden by Emanuel De Diego, is at 12-1. Post Facto (4), trained by Ilmar Loaiza and ridden by Wladimir Rengifo, is 15-1 and the longest shot in this field with little to recommend in a nine-horse sprint.

Betting Strategy

With nine horses at 6½ furlongs, pace will be chaotic and trifecta wagering is the preferred approach. Key Breaking Stones (3) on top with Three Little Birds (9), Double Shot (2), Profitability (8), and Heads Or Tails (1) filling in the second and third spots. A $1 trifecta partial wheel using Breaking Stones (3) on top is the featured play. Win betting should be modest given the field size and price compression.

Selections

Win: Breaking Stones (3) Place: Three Little Birds (9) Show: Double Shot (2)

RACE 6 — Post (3:20)/2:20/1:20/12:20 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 11000n3l | BUM | Purse $17,800

Eight fillies and mares at six furlongs in an $11,000 non-winners of three lifetime claiming race. This is the most competitive of the female claiming races on the card, and the purse of $17,800 reflects the higher class level. Two Ferraro entries again — Dancin Jane (2) and Red Burgundy (3) — with rider assignments providing the barn's tell. Sofia Vives aboard Red Burgundy (3) and L.E. Perez on Dancin Jane (2) suggests Ferraro prefers Red Burgundy (3) if Vives is Ferraro's go-to option for the stable's preferred runner, though Perez is a capable jockey in his own right.

Note: The trainer listed for Dancin Jane (2) and Red Burgundy (3) is FERRARO MICHAEL, while FERRARO M ANTHONY handles entries in other races. These may be the same trainer or related barns — both are active at Finger Lakes and bettors should confirm trainer identity in the program.

Pace Analysis

Red Burgundy (3) at 3-1 figures to be the pace setter or presser based on the morning line. Hidden Vase (1) at 4-1 and Lovely Pashyn (4) at 4-1 could also be near the front. Six furlongs on a fast track at Finger Lakes can produce a relatively quick pace if multiple horses are early types. Cararra (7) from Baker's barn and World Bank (8) from Gutterson's barn are likely to sit off the speed.

Key Contenders

Red Burgundy (3), trained by Michael Ferraro and ridden by Sofia Vives, is the morning line favorite at 3-1. Vives is an underrated jockey with sound tactical instincts. Red Burgundy (3) from Post 3 gets a clean middle draw, and if this horse has been competitive in similar conditions, the step into $11,000 non-winners of three lifetime is an appropriate condition. Ferraro's barn in this spot warrants full respect.

Hidden Vase (1), trained by Jon G. Arnett and ridden by Keiber J. Coa, is the other top contender at 4-1. Coa's booking on Hidden Vase (1) is significant — the leading rider at Finger Lakes going to Arnett's barn for this claiming race suggests the jockey (and presumably the trainer) believe this horse has a real shot. The rail post at six furlongs is less of a concern in a sprint than in a route, and Coa is expert at breaking cleanly and establishing position from inside posts.

Lovely Pashyn (4), trained by Paul Barrow and ridden by Jeremias Flores, is 4-1 with the same morning line as Hidden Vase (1). Barrow's string is well-represented today, and Lovely Pashyn (4) from Post 4 gets an excellent draw. Flores has been a capable partner for Barrow's horses, and this entry deserves full consideration in a very competitive race.

Secondary Choices

Dancin Jane (2), the second Ferraro entry at 5-1, is ridden by L.E. Perez and appears to be the barn's secondary option. At 5-1, Dancin Jane (2) offers fair value if bettors want exposure to both Ferraro horses. Post 2 is a fine draw.

Cararra (7), trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by Joel Cruz, is at 6-1. Baker has multiple horses on the card and Cararra (7) at 6-1 could offer exacta value if the pace sets up for a closer.

Longshots

World Bank (8), trained by Katlynn Gutterson and ridden by Emanuel De Diego, is 8-1 from the outside post. Gutterson's multiple entries today suggest an active barn, but the outside post in a sprint is a challenge. Diptique (5), trained by Aadil S. Khan and ridden by Steven Fret, is at 12-1 and is a doubtful selection. Classiwest (6), trained by Katlynn Gutterson and ridden by Wladimir Rengifo, is the co-longest shot in the field at 20-1 and can be ignored in most wagering structures.

Betting Strategy

The Coa/Arnett combination with Hidden Vase (1) is the best value angle in this race. At 4-1, Hidden Vase (1) represents fair pricing with the leading rider aboard. Red Burgundy (3) at 3-1 is the public's choice. Exacta pairing Hidden Vase (1) and Red Burgundy (3) both ways, with Lovely Pashyn (4) in trifecta coverage, is the recommended structure.

Selections

Win: Hidden Vase (1) Place: Red Burgundy (3) Show: Lovely Pashyn (4)

RACE 7 — Post (3:49)/2:49/1:49/12:49 — 1830f | D | A | Alw 26900n3l | BUN | Purse $26,900

Eight horses line up for the day's feature race — a non-winners of three lifetime allowance at 11½ furlongs and the richest purse on the card at $26,900. This is the most competitive race of the afternoon and deserves the most analytical attention. The field of eight has significant depth, with multiple contenders from major circuit trainers. Ferraro again has two entries — Take The Gold (5) and Hey Pal (8) — with Coa taking the mount on Hey Pal (8), providing the barn's preference indicator.

Pace Analysis

Gray Haired Gus (2) at 4-1 and Muscle Shoals (1) at 4-1 figure to be among the front-runners along with Isola D'oro (4). If multiple horses contest the early fractions at 11½ furlongs, the pace could become honest, setting up the closers Hey Pal (8) and Take The Gold (5) from the Ferraro barn. Trew Violence (6) and Fiscal Drag (7) are likely to stalk or close from off the pace. Ducky Medwick (3) at 12-1 is the longest shot in the field and likely to be a non-factor unless the pace truly collapses.

Key Contenders

Hey Pal (8), trained by M. Anthony Ferraro and ridden by Keiber J. Coa, is the morning line co-leader at 3-1 and gets Ferraro's preferred jockey. This is the clearest trainer angle on the race card — when Ferraro and Coa combine in an allowance feature at Finger Lakes, the record is compellingly strong. The outside post at 11½ furlongs is not ideal, but Coa is skilled enough to find a comfortable position off the early pace and make a move into the far turn. Hey Pal (8) is the selection.

Gray Haired Gus (2), trained by Jonathan B. Buckley and ridden by Kevin Navarro, is at 4-1 in the morning line. Buckley is a respected trainer who occasionally sends horses to Finger Lakes from outside the circuit, and when he does, the horses are typically fit and competitively placed. Gray Haired Gus (2) from Post 2 has an excellent draw for the route, and Navarro's tactical ability at this distance is a positive. This horse is the most credible alternative to Hey Pal (8).

Muscle Shoals (1), trained by Luis A. Gutierrez and ridden by O.K. Hernandez, is at 4-1 and shares the morning line with several others. Gutierrez has Ducky Medwick (3) also in this race, and the 4-1 on Muscle Shoals (1) versus 12-1 on Ducky Medwick (3) makes the preference clear. Hernandez and Muscle Shoals from the inside post will need to settle comfortably in traffic, but Hernandez is experienced enough to handle the position.

Secondary Choices

Isola D'oro (4), trained by Lisa L. Lugovich and ridden by Reylu Gutierrez, is at 4-1 alongside the others. The middle post is excellent for a route race, and Lugovich is a trainer who works to place horses effectively. Isola D'oro (4) could press the pace or sit just off the speed, making it a serious factor in the stretch.

Take The Gold (5), the secondary Ferraro entry at 6-1, is ridden by Joel Cruz. Cruz is a capable jockey, but Coa's presence on Hey Pal (8) puts Take The Gold (5) as the barn's secondary option. At 6-1, Take The Gold (5) still offers reasonable value in a competitive field and cannot be discarded in exotics.

Trew Violence (6), trained by John A. Grabowski and ridden by Luis Pena, is at 6-1. Grabowski is a trainer who has had moments of success at this level, and Trew Violence (6) at 6-1 could be the live closer if the early fractions are truly fast.

Longshots

Fiscal Drag (7), trained by Rachel Sells and ridden by L.E. Perez, is at 15-1. Sells has horses scattered across the card today but none at particularly short odds, and Fiscal Drag (7) at 15-1 in an allowance feature is facing a steep hill. Ducky Medwick (3), the second Gutierrez entry at 12-1, ridden by N.R. Alvarado, is the longest shot on the board and essentially a throwout.

Betting Strategy

Hey Pal (8) at 3-1 with the Ferraro/Coa combination is the race's featured win play. Gray Haired Gus (2) is the primary alternative and can be used confidently in exactas. Key Hey Pal (8) on top in the exacta over Gray Haired Gus (2), Muscle Shoals (1), and Isola D'oro (4). Trifectas should include Take The Gold (5) and Trew Violence (6) in third. The Pick 4 running through Races 5, 6, 7, and 8 should include Hey Pal (8) as the single in Race 7 with multiple selections in the surrounding legs.

Selections

Win: Hey Pal (8) Place: Gray Haired Gus (2) Show: Isola D'oro (4)

RACE 8 — Post (4:18)/3:18/2:18/1:18 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUM | Purse $14,000

Seven fillies and mares close out the card in a six-furlong $5,000 claimer. Blue Eyed Scout (3) and Cinnamon Sugar (6) share 2-1 billing on the morning line, setting up what could be a high-quality finish between two well-regarded local horses. This race should provide a solid conclusion to the wagering card and is a natural target for Pick 4 and Pick 6 finishers.

Pace Analysis

Blue Eyed Scout (3) at 2-1 and Cinnamon Sugar (6) at 2-1 will likely be the controlling factors. Post 3 versus Post 6 at six furlongs means neither horse has an extreme post disadvantage. If both are early types, they could set a hot pace that opens the door for Thin Legs (4), Grand Lady Indy (1), and Kaymus (5) to come running. Grand Lady Indy (1) gets Coa again after his appearances earlier in the card, which is worth noting.

Key Contenders

Blue Eyed Scout (3), trained by Julie Pierson and ridden by Steven Fret, is one of the co-favorites at 2-1. Pierson has Janssen (4) in Race 1, and Blue Eyed Scout (3) is her featured closer. Fret has been active throughout the card today, and experience at this track is a genuine advantage in the card's final race. If Blue Eyed Scout (3) has won recently or has been showing strong works, this horse could be the easiest play of the closing race.

Cinnamon Sugar (6), trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, is the other 2-1 co-favorite. Baker's barn has been active all day with Three Little Birds (9) in Race 5, Cararra (7) in Race 6, and The Brown Egg (7) in Race 4. Cinnamon Sugar (6) is Baker's featured closer to the card, and Worrie's activity throughout the afternoon suggests the rider is in good rhythm. Post 6 at six furlongs is a workable draw.

Grand Lady Indy (1), trained by Michael Ferraro and ridden by Keiber J. Coa, is at 5-1. Coa making another appearance in the final race of the card is not a surprise given his workload today, and the Ferraro/Coa combination even at 5-1 deserves consideration. Post 1 at six furlongs is not ideal, but Coa can navigate from the inside.

Secondary Choices

Thin Legs (4), trained by James Acquilano and ridden by M.A. Davila Jr., is at 4-1. Acquilano is a quiet trainer at the circuit and Thin Legs (4) at 4-1 could represent fair value if the pace sets up for a presser or stalker from Post 4.

Kaymus (5), trained by Linda K. Dixon and ridden by Jeremias Flores, is at 8-1 and represents the deepest value option in the race. Dixon is not a dominant name at Finger Lakes, but 8-1 in a seven-horse field is worth a look in exotics.

Longshots

Numeric (2), trained by Jose Merced and ridden by John C. Berrios, is 20-1 and the longest shot on the morning line in the race. Without a compelling pace angle or trainer pattern, Numeric (2) can be omitted from most wagering structures. Tumbles (7), trained by Julius Ashley and ridden by Wladimir Rengifo, is 15-1 and similarly difficult to recommend in a spot where two co-favorites dominate the conversation.

Betting Strategy

With two co-favorites, the win pool is likely to be compressed. Exacta betting is the preferred approach — the key play is Blue Eyed Scout (3) and Cinnamon Sugar (6) in both combinations, with Grand Lady Indy (1) and Thin Legs (4) for trifecta coverage. Grand Lady Indy (1) at 5-1 with Coa aboard is the best alternative win play if bettors want to step off the even-money shots.

Selections

Win: Cinnamon Sugar (6) Place: Blue Eyed Scout (3) Show: Grand Lady Indy (1)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Keiber J. Coa is the featured rider on this card and has mounts in Race 1 (Beach Invasion (3)), Race 2 (She's A Goddess (1)), Race 4 (Grand Warrior (5)), Race 6 (Hidden Vase (1)), Race 7 (Hey Pal (8)), and Race 8 (Grand Lady Indy (1)). A six-race book at Finger Lakes in October is a clear indicator that Coa is the leading rider at the meet and agents are feeding him the best available horses. His combination with M. Anthony Ferraro is particularly potent and should be a default angle for bettors throughout the card. Riders with a heavy book at a short-field circuit like Finger Lakes tend to maintain concentration and tactical sharpness, and Coa's experience handling the tight oval is a genuine asset.

Steven Fret is also prominently booked today with mounts in Race 2 (Froghollowsummer (2)), Race 3 (Hypnocurrency (6)), Race 5 (no mount), Race 6 (Diptique (5)), and Race 8 (Blue Eyed Scout (3)). Fret riding the morning line favorite in Race 2 and a co-favorite in Race 8 suggests he is among the top riders on the current circuit. His ability to place horses in position from sprint gates is worth noting.

Andre Shivnarine Worrie has a full book including Race 1 (Free Dance (7)), Race 2 (Lively Pal (5)), Race 3 (Peggy Rules (1)), Race 5 (Heads Or Tails (1)), and Race 8 (Cinnamon Sugar (6)). Worrie's association with Chris Englehart's barn is a reliable angle throughout the card, particularly in Race 1 and Race 2 where Englehart horses are featured contenders.

Reylu Gutierrez appears in Race 2 (Gattatiz (4)), Race 4 (Celtic Prince (4)), Race 6 (absent), and Race 7 (Isola D'oro (4)). His booking on Celtic Prince (4) at 2-1 in Race 4 is a high-profile assignment that reflects confidence from trainer Keri Brion.

N.R. Alvarado pilots Maturation (1) in Race 1 and Ducky Medwick (3) in Race 7 for the Gutierrez barn. The 12-1 on Ducky Medwick (3) versus 4-1 on Muscle Shoals (1) under Hernandez makes clear where the barn's confidence lies in the feature.

Trainer Notes and Insights

M. Anthony Ferraro is the dominant trainer on the card with entries in nearly every race. His horses appear in Race 1 (Beach Invasion (3)), Race 4 (Percy (3) and Grand Warrior (5)), Race 5 (Profitability (8)), Race 7 (Take The Gold (5) and Hey Pal (8)). When Ferraro runs two horses in the same race, the rider assignment for the barn's preferred horse is the telling indicator — in Race 4, Coa on Grand Warrior (5) over Perez on Percy (3) reveals the preference; in Race 7, Coa on Hey Pal (8) over Cruz on Take The Gold (5) tells the same story. Ferraro's win rate at Finger Lakes this meet is among the highest at the circuit, and bettors who have followed the barn through the season know that Ferraro horses rarely run without a genuine effort.

Chris Englehart is another dominant local conditioner with horses in Race 1 (Free Dance (7)), Race 2 (Lively Pal (5)), and Race 5 (Heads Or Tails (1)). Englehart's maiden success rate is particularly notable — Lively Pal (5) in Race 2 carries the full weight of the barn's maiden-breaking ability. Free Dance (7) in the Race 1 allowance is an equally important play.

Luis A. Gutierrez trains Maturation (1) in Race 1, Southern Trouble (6) in Race 2, and Muscle Shoals (1) and Ducky Medwick (3) in Race 7. The Gutierrez barn has significant representation in the feature and Muscle Shoals (1) at 4-1 deserves inclusion in multi-race exotic plays.

Paul Barrow has Klum (3) in Race 2, My Royal Vow (3) in Race 3, Breaking Stones (3) in Race 5, and Lovely Pashyn (4) in Race 6. The Post 3 assignment for multiple Barrow horses is a coincidence of the draw, but the trainer's consistent presence at the meet makes every entry worth evaluating on its individual merits.

Charlton Baker closes out the card with The Brown Egg (7) in Race 4, Three Little Birds (9) in Race 5, Cararra (7) in Race 6, and Cinnamon Sugar (6) in Race 8. Baker's horses tend to be well-prepared when they run, and Cinnamon Sugar (6) in the finale with Worrie is one of the better closing plays on the card.

Katlynn Gutterson has Renaissance Man (2) and Notfanutin (6) in Race 4, and Classiwest (6) and World Bank (8) in Race 6. The trainer's strategy of doubling up in races makes identifying the preferred runner essential — in Race 4, the 4-1 on Notfanutin (6) versus 8-1 on Renaissance Man (2) suggests Notfanutin (6) is the barn's intended winner.

Rachel Sells has entries in Race 1 (Aelfgar (6)), Race 5 (Winston D (6)), and Race 7 (Fiscal Drag (7)). None of these carry short odds, and the Sells barn appears to be in a development mode at this level rather than targeting wins aggressively today.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best single-race value plays on the card are Grand Warrior (5) at 5-1 in Race 4 and Hidden Vase (1) at 4-1 in Race 6. Both represent horses whose trainer and jockey pairings indicate genuine win intentions at prices that offer meaningful return over the morning line favorites.

The Ferraro/Coa combination is the card's most reliable angle and appears four times across eight races. Following the combination across Races 1, 4, 7, and 8 with Beach Invasion (3), Grand Warrior (5), Hey Pal (8), and Grand Lady Indy (1) respectively gives bettors a coherent, trainer-based framework for the entire card.

For the Pick 4 running through Races 5 through 8, a recommended structure is:

Race 5: Breaking Stones (3), Three Little Birds (9), Double Shot (2) — three horses Race 6: Hidden Vase (1), Red Burgundy (3), Lovely Pashyn (4) — three horses Race 7: Hey Pal (8) — single Race 8: Cinnamon Sugar (6), Blue Eyed Scout (3) — two horses

This structure creates 18 combinations at $1 each for an $18 investment, with Hey Pal (8) as the single in the feature carrying the ticket.

For the Pick 3 in Races 6 through 8, a tighter play is Hidden Vase (1) or Red Burgundy (3) in Race 6, Hey Pal (8) as a single in Race 7, and Cinnamon Sugar (6) in Race 8 — six combinations at $1 each for $6.

The best exotic value on the card may be in Race 4 trifectas. Grand Warrior (5) and Celtic Prince (4) covering the top two spots, with Notfanutin (6), The Brown Egg (7), and Percy (3) rounding out the third, creates a manageable investment in a seven-horse field where the pace dynamics at 11½ furlongs can produce significant payouts.

The Race 5 trifecta in the nine-horse sprint is the highest-variance play. If Breaking Stones (3) wins and the pace collapses as projected, the underneath horses could include double-digit prices that generate a substantial trifecta return. Investing $2 in a partial trifecta keyed to Breaking Stones (3) on top with multiple horses in second and third is the recommended approach.

Across the card, avoid overweighting the co-favorites at 2-1 in Races 3 and 8 for win betting — the compressed pricing makes win wagers inefficient. Direct those funds toward exactas and trifectas where the value margin is significantly wider.
