Monmouth Park Race Day Overview — Sunday, June 7, 2026

The first Sunday of June brings eight races to Monmouth Park, capping off what has been a historic weekend for the Triple Crown trail. Golden Tempo's wire-to-wire demolition in the 158th Belmont Stakes at Saratoga yesterday has the racing world buzzing, and the energy carries over to the Jersey Shore as the Monmouth meet rolls into full swing. Today's card is headlined by the John J. Reilly Handicap in Race 7, a $75,000 sprint for New Jersey-bred horses that serves as the marquee event of the afternoon alongside the supporting undercard featuring a mix of claimers, maiden events, and a $50,000 maiden special weight sprint.

Eight races are on tap, covering distances from 990 feet to 1,870 feet across both the main dirt track and the turf course. The card features a strong mix of claiming horses, maiden runners, and stakes participants. Wayne Potts has saddled horses in four races today, making him the trainer to watch for the afternoon. Eddie Owens Jr. also has a strong presence with entries in Races 2 and 7. The claiming ranks from $16,000 to optional claiming level dominate the undercard, setting up a card that rewards sharp class analysis and pace handicapping.

Weather and Track Conditions

Conditions at Monmouth Park for Sunday, June 7, 2026 are favorable. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-70s Fahrenheit, light winds out of the southwest at approximately 8 to 12 mph, and no meaningful precipitation expected throughout the afternoon. The main track should be listed as fast, and the turf course is anticipated to be firm to good following a dry week at the Jersey Shore.

The turf course at Monmouth has been in excellent condition throughout the early meet, with firm to good readings providing a genuine grass surface that tends to favor horses with good turf form and tactical speed rather than deep closers. No maintenance reports have surfaced indicating any abnormalities on either surface heading into today's program.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Monmouth Park's main dirt track is a one-mile oval with a fairly short stretch run. On fast surfaces, the track has historically shown a moderate speed-favoring bias, particularly in sprint distances where horses breaking from the rail and the two-hole have demonstrated an advantage. In route races on the dirt, inside posts can be problematic around two turns, and horses drawn mid-field from Posts 4 through 6 tend to produce the most winners.

On the Monmouth turf course, inside posts have been a legitimate concern in route and distance events, as traffic can become a factor early. Horses drawn in the middle of the field, roughly Posts 3 through 6, tend to fare best in turf routes, while the outside posts in large fields can be a disadvantage due to added distance. In today's turf sprints and routes, mid-draw horses deserve added attention.

The early post time of 12:50 means the track could be at its best condition before afternoon heat sets in. Speed horses in the opener and early races should be given extra consideration given today's favorable forecast and the expected fast-track profile.

RACE 1 — Post (12:50)/11:50/10:50/9:50 — 1100f | D | C | Clm 16000b | BUN | Purse $18,000

This opener is a claiming event going 1,100 feet on the main track for older horses. The $16,000 claiming tag with a buy-back option defines the class level, and with seven runners going seven furlongs, pace will be a critical factor. The presence of two Wayne Potts trainees makes stable decisions worth watching closely here.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

This race figures to feature a contested pace scenario. Johnny Come Lately (POST 4) and Essentially Fast (POST 6) both project as horses that want to be near the front, and Copernium (POST 7) from the outside post figures to use his early speed to try to establish position. If three horses are battling for the lead in the early stages, the pace will be honest to fast, which opens the door for a closer or a stalker to finish over the top. The 1,100-foot distance at Monmouth plays to horses with a late kick, particularly if they can stalk the pace from second or third.

Key Contenders

Copernium (POST 7) opens at 2-1 morning line and is the class of this field based on recent form. Trained by Anthony Margotta Jr. and ridden by Pascacio Lopez, Copernium has been running competitively at this level and represents the single most logical betting choice in the race. His outside draw is a minor concern in a sprint of this length, but his tactical ability should allow him to press or stalk the pace from a good position. Margotta has been sharp at the Monmouth meet and Lopez is among the meet's more reliable pilots.

Johnny Come Lately (POST 4) draws 3-1 morning line and is the other logical top choice in this race. Silvino Ramirez puts Charlie Marquez aboard, a combination that has produced results at this level. The four-hole is a prime post in a seven-horse sprint, and if Johnny Come Lately can establish position early without burning too much fuel, he is capable of lasting. He should be respected at the price.

Secondary Choices

My Man Money (POST 3) is trained by Wayne Potts and ridden by C. Sutherland at 4-1. Potts having two horses in this race is a double-edged sword for bettors: one of them figures to be the stable's primary runner, and the morning line suggests MY MAN MONEY is that horse over stablemate Essentially Fast (POST 6). At 4-1 with Sutherland up, this horse draws a favorable inside post for a sprint and must be considered.

Essentially Fast (POST 6) is the second Potts runner at 6-1 with Martin Chuan. The higher morning line suggests connections may be using this horse to set the pace for My Man Money (POST 3), or alternatively, Essentially Fast is the secondary option in the stable's plans. Either way, the 6-1 price on a Potts trainee deserves attention, as the barn is capable of springing either horse.

Longshots

Sociably Johnny (POST 1) opens at 8-1 with Sonny Leon aboard for Derek S. Ryan. The inside post in a sprint can be an advantage, and Leon is a capable rider, but the morning line suggests this horse needs to show something more than he has recently to be competitive. At 8-1, some trifecta use is warranted.

Island Spirit (POST 2) is 10-1 for Rory K. Huston and Christian Maragh. Maragh is an experienced hand and Huston has horses running on the board periodically, but 10-1 reflects the horse's likely distance from this field's top tier.

Big Dosser (POST 5) at 20-1 for Joann Bertone and Kendry Rivera is the clear overlay in terms of morning line, and at this price, connections would need to send this horse out in career-best form to threaten. Omit from win consideration but note in deep exotics only.

Selections

Win: Copernium (POST 7) Place: Johnny Come Lately (POST 4) Show: My Man Money (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: Single Copernium (POST 7) on top in exactas and trifectas. Key the top three — Copernium (POST 7), Johnny Come Lately (POST 4), and My Man Money (POST 3) — in exactas. Trifecta box of those three is your primary structure. If the morning line holds, Copernium (POST 7) at 2-1 is a legitimate single if playing Pick 3s from this race.

RACE 2 — Post (1:24)/12:24/11:24/10:24 — 990f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | AON | Purse $45,000

A maiden special weight for a restricted condition going 990 feet, which is just over six furlongs on the dirt. The $45,000 purse reflects the quality of the field, and with seven runners, Eddie Owens Jr. has a formidable two-horse presence with Sea Devil (POST 1) and City Streaker (POST 2). Jose H. Delgado also fields two horses. Black Label (POST 7) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

At 990 feet — essentially six and a half furlongs — early speed is at a premium. Black Label (POST 7) and Hurricane Mo (POST 5) both figure to be forwardly placed, and the outside draw for Black Label means Lopez will need to send that horse to make the front or settle just off it. City Streaker (POST 2) breaks from a prime post and figures to be involved in the pace conversation. If multiple horses press for the lead, the pace will be quick enough to give closers a chance, but in a field of this nature at this distance, the horse that dictates terms from a comfortable position will be tough to beat.

Key Contenders

Black Label (POST 7) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Jorge Delgado and jockey Pascacio Lopez. A different Delgado from the Jose H. Delgado barn, Jorge Delgado puts his top horse in a prime position, and Lopez as the leading pick-up rider here suggests connections feel good about their chances. The outside post is the one knock against Black Label in a sprint, but at 2-1, the horse's quality justifies the favoritism. Lopez is aggressive enough to angle for position early.

Hurricane Mo (POST 5) is co-favorite with Sea Devil (POST 1) at 4-1, trained by Jose H. Delgado and ridden by Sonny Leon. Leon aboard is a significant positive — he is one of the meet's top pilots and his presence on any horse elevates their chances. Hurricane Mo from Post 5 is ideally positioned to stalk the early pace and make a run in the lane.

Secondary Choices

Sea Devil (POST 1) at 4-1 for Owens and Luis R. Rivera Jr. gets the coveted rail in a sprint and will save ground from start to finish. In maiden sprint races on the dirt at Monmouth, horses in the one-hole have a documented edge, and Owens may be pointing this horse specifically to take advantage of the post. If Sea Devil (POST 1) gets a clear trip along the inside, he is a genuine threat to win.

City Streaker (POST 2) is the stablemate of Sea Devil, also trained by Owens at 4-1 with Jose Antonio Gomez up. Running two horses at the same morning line price is a common Owens tactic, and City Streaker (POST 2) from Post 2 is almost as well-drawn as Sea Devil. The question is which one Owens prefers, and the tote board will help answer that question.

Justintimeformusic (POST 3) is 6-1 for Jose H. Delgado and Charlie Marquez. With two horses in this race for the Delgado barn, Hurricane Mo (POST 5) appears to be the primary runner based on the morning line, but at 6-1 with a capable jockey, Justintimeformusic (POST 3) could be the sneaky stable entry if the favorite stumbles.

Longshots

Veloce Mulo (POST 4) is 8-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Ramon F. Moya. Margotta has been active at this meet and Moya is a competent jockey. A win price of 8-1 would make this an excellent payout given the field's talent level. Worth a small spot in trifectas.

Asongwithoutwords (POST 6) is the distant 15-1 longshot for Russell J. Cash and Jomar Torres. Without clear form credentials to challenge the favorites, this horse is best used as a trifecta wheel only in deep structures.

Selections

Win: Black Label (POST 7) Place: Hurricane Mo (POST 5) Show: Sea Devil (POST 1)

Betting Strategy: Use Black Label (POST 7) on top of exactas with Sea Devil (POST 1), Hurricane Mo (POST 5), and City Streaker (POST 2) underneath. The Owens double-entry makes singling either Sea Devil or City Streaker risky; cover both. Trifecta: Black Label (POST 7) over Hurricane Mo (POST 5) / Sea Devil (POST 1) / City Streaker (POST 2) over the field is the primary structure.

RACE 3 — Post (1:57)/12:57/11:57/10:57 — 1830f | D | CO | OClm 16000 | BUM | Purse $21,500

An optional $16,000 claimer going 1,830 feet — approximately eleven furlongs — on the dirt for fillies and mares. This is a marathon distance for this class level, and class and stamina are the dominant handicapping factors. Chelsea Wall (POST 4) and Equus (POST 6) share morning line co-favorite billing at 2-1.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

In a route of this distance, pace typically sets up over the first five to six furlongs, with the decisive runs coming late. With two horses sharing co-favorite status, the pace is likely to be moderate, as neither connections team will want to burn their horse out early. Rogue Justice (POST 2) and Salagadoola (POST 3) could be the horses most likely to press the pace in the early stages. If a slow pace develops, the closers in this race — Skittliedat (POST 1) and La Vecchia Signora (POST 7) — will have a legitimate shot. A moderate pace favors the class horses, Chelsea Wall (POST 4) and Equus (POST 6).

Key Contenders

Chelsea Wall (POST 4) at 2-1 for Jamie Ness and Pascacio Lopez is a very strong contender. Ness is one of the sharper trainers who ships horses to Monmouth, and his record with fillies and mares at this distance is worth noting. Lopez gets the call, adding further confidence. Post 4 in a route is a safe, comfortable starting point, and if Chelsea Wall has the class edge in this field, she should be able to track the pace and move when asked.

Equus (POST 6) at 2-1 for Pompeyo Gomez and Jomar Torres shares the co-favorite status and presents a genuine alternative to Chelsea Wall. Torres has been dependable this meet, and Equus (POST 6) from Post 6 in an eleven-furlong route should be able to find a comfortable position. The identical morning line suggests this is genuinely a two-horse race.

Secondary Choices

La Vecchia Signora (POST 7) at 4-1 for Juan Carlos Avila and Jose Antonio Gomez is the most interesting secondary choice. In a long route on the dirt, a horse with the stamina to close over tired rivals can emerge at a generous price. The 4-1 morning line reflects this horse's legitimate credentials, and at this distance, do not discount Avila's ability to get his fillies and mares ready for a twelve-furlong grind. Gomez is a capable jockey to be aboard in a late-running scenario.

Salagadoola (POST 3) at 5-1 for Wayne Potts and Martin Chuan is worth watching. Potts, as noted, has multiple runners today and knows his horses' conditions. Salagadoola (POST 3) from a favorable inside post with pace ability figures to be in the clear early.

Rogue Justice (POST 2) at 5-1 for Panagiotis A. Synnefias and Luis R. Rivera Jr. adds another competitive element. Rivera Jr. is one of the more active jockeys on this card and Rogue Justice (POST 2) from Post 2 will benefit from a ground-saving trip.

Longshots

Skittliedat (POST 1) is 8-1 for Robert Leaf III and Sara Hess. The rail in a two-turn route can be tricky, and Hess is less prominently featured among the top riders at this meet. At 8-1, there is some value if the inside post works in her favor.

Sherunsthistown (POST 5) is 15-1 for Wayne Potts and C. Sutherland. With Salagadoola (POST 3) as the preferred Potts runner, Sherunsthistown (POST 5) figures to be the secondary stable entry. At 15-1, only light exotic use is warranted.

Selections

Win: Chelsea Wall (POST 4) Place: Equus (POST 6) Show: La Vecchia Signora (POST 7)

Betting Strategy: Exacta: Chelsea Wall (POST 4) and Equus (POST 6) both ways. Trifecta: use both co-favorites on top with La Vecchia Signora (POST 7) and Salagadoola (POST 3) rounding out the bottom. Given the co-favorite dynamic, the exacta both ways at 2-1 to 2-1 will not return big, but combining them on top in trifectas with live longshots improves the overall return.

RACE 4 — Post (2:31)/1:31/12:31/11:31 — 1210f | T | M | Md 16000 | BUM | Purse $16,000

This eleven-runner maiden claimer on the turf going 1,210 feet — approximately seven and a half furlongs — is a wide-open affair. The $16,000 maiden claiming tag signals a horse who has struggled to break her maiden and is being dropped into the softest conditions possible. With eleven runners and maiden claimers on the turf, the outcome can be unpredictable. Bashful Baby (POST 7) opens as the 2-1 favorite for Richard E. Dutrow and Pascacio Lopez.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Eleven horses on a turf course in a maiden claimer creates legitimate traffic concerns. The early pace will be crucial: horses drawn outside will have to use energy to establish position, while those on the inside risk getting shuffled back in traffic. In a field this large on the turf, a stalker who sits second or third while saving ground often triumphs. Derby Hangover (POST 5) and April Spun (POST 6) project as pace-setters from middle posts, while Bashful Baby (POST 7) with Lopez should find a comfortable stalking spot.

Key Contenders

Bashful Baby (POST 7) is the clear morning line favorite at 2-1 for one of horse racing's most prominent names, Richard E. Dutrow. Dutrow's horses are always to be respected, particularly when he sends one out as the morning line choice. Lopez aboard adds to the confidence, and the seven-hole on a turf course of this length is a workable post in a large field. If Bashful Baby has the class edge on this field, the race likely ends here.

Derby Hangover (POST 5) at 4-1 for Terri Pompay and Sonny Leon is a compelling secondary choice. The name is appropriate given the timing of the card, and Leon is one of the more aggressive jockeys in terms of finding position early in maiden turf races. Post 5 in an eleven-horse field is mid-range and should give Leon enough room to maneuver.

Secondary Choices

April Spun (POST 6) at 5-1 for Kathleen O'Connell and P.L. Cotto Jr. represents a legitimate contender on the turf. O'Connell trains a solid string and April Spun (POST 6) at 5-1 with an inside-ish post in this field has appeal. Worth using in exactas and trifectas as a secondary option.

Chestertown Jane (POST 11) at 5-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. and Jomar Torres is the outside post in the field — a concern on the turf — but Ben Perkins Jr. typically sends his horses out fit, and Torres is reliable. In a large field where inside posts get traffic, the wide post can occasionally produce a clean trip. The 5-1 morning line suggests connections believe in this horse.

Belvedere Club (POST 2) at 6-1 for Lindsay Schultz and Jorge A. Vargas Jr. draws a very favorable rail-adjacent post on the turf. In an eleven-horse field on the grass, the two-hole can mean ground-saving benefits throughout, and Vargas is an experienced turf rider. This is a horse worth including in vertical exotic plays.

Longshots

Maxpower (POST 4) at 8-1 for Panagiotis A. Synnefias and C. Sutherland is a long shot whose post is workable, but the morning line suggests this horse needs to improve significantly to threaten.

By My Dreams (POST 3) at 10-1 for Juan Carlos Avila and Luis R. Rivera Jr. is another longer shot with a favorable enough post. Rivera Jr. gives this horse a competent rider.

Ship Of Fools (POST 9) at 6-1 for Rory K. Huston and Ramon F. Moya is intriguing. A 6-1 shot from Post 9 in a large turf field seems like it could be a value play if Huston has this horse ready. Moya is dependable.

Love In The Hills (POST 10) at 10-1 and Gypsy Style (POST 8) at 20-1, both for trainer Cesareo Marquez and jockey Luis M. Ocasio, present a dual-entry concern. Neither is likely to win, but they could complicate the pace or crowd the field. Use sparingly or not at all in exotics.

Balitea (POST 1) at 15-1 for Joseph W. Mazza and Kendry Rivera is an extreme longshot from the rail in a turf maiden claimer. Difficult to recommend.

Selections

Win: Bashful Baby (POST 7) Place: Derby Hangover (POST 5) Show: Belvedere Club (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: With eleven runners in a maiden turf claimer, exactas and trifectas offer the best value. Key Bashful Baby (POST 7) on top of a wide exacta using Derby Hangover (POST 5), Belvedere Club (POST 2), April Spun (POST 6), Ship Of Fools (POST 9), and Chestertown Jane (POST 11). In trifectas, put Bashful Baby (POST 7) on top with Derby Hangover (POST 5) and Belvedere Club (POST 2) as the key horses in the second and third positions, spreading to the rest of the field to cover live longshots.

RACE 5 — Post (3:04)/2:04/1:04/12:04 — 1320f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $50,000

The maiden special weight for New Jersey-breds going a mile on the dirt is a key prep event on today's card. With a $50,000 purse and eight runners, this is a race that will identify future stakes contenders among the state-bred ranks. Amberjack (POST 2) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite for Jorge Delgado and Pascacio Lopez.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Going a mile on the dirt in maiden special weight company, the pace will be critical. Amberjack (POST 2) and Frostelle (POST 8) figure as the two class horses based on morning lines, but the pace question hinges on who is willing to go to the front. My Military Hero (POST 1) from the inside post could establish early pace, and U Dirty Dog (POST 4) with Charlie Marquez could also be forwardly placed. If the pace is honest, the closers — Frostelle (POST 8) and Decimated (POST 5) — will get their chance late. A slow pace would favor Amberjack (POST 2) and the stalkers.

Key Contenders

Amberjack (POST 2) at 2-1 is trained by Jorge Delgado, who also saddled Black Label (POST 7) in Race 2 today. Delgado having the morning line favorite in two different races suggests the barn is in form, and Lopez — who has been a key pilot all day — gets the call. Post 2 in a mile race on the dirt is favorable, and Amberjack (POST 2) should be able to track pace comfortably.

Frostelle (POST 8) at 3-1 for Chris Englehart and Andre Shivnarine Worrie is the other legitimate top choice in this field. Englehart is a respected trainer with a strong maiden record and ships horses to Monmouth when confident. Frostelle (POST 8) from Post 8 in a maiden mile will have to spend some early energy to get into position, but at 3-1, the connections clearly believe this horse is ready to fire.

Secondary Choices

I'm Going Cruising (POST 6) at 8-1 for Joseph W. Mazza and Sonny Leon has appeal at the price. Leon is one of the card's top jockeys and Mazza knows how to get his maiden horses ready. At 8-1, this is the kind of horse that can sneak up on the field if the pace scenario works in his favor.

Point Barrow (POST 7) at 6-1 for Jack Abrams and Francisco Martinez is worth noting. The 6-1 morning line is competitive and Abrams occasionally surfaces a live horse in maiden company. Martinez is a journeyman who can be effective when given a live mount.

Decimated (POST 5) at 8-1 for Charles Spina and Luis R. Rivera Jr. is an interesting play. Spina has two horses in this race — Decimated (POST 5) and U Dirty Dog (POST 4) — and with Rivera Jr. on Decimated (POST 5) versus Charlie Marquez on U Dirty Dog (POST 4), there may be a preference here. The barn's double-entry creates intrigue, and Decimated (POST 5) at 8-1 with a quality jockey could be a value.

Longshots

My Military Hero (POST 1) at 5-1 for Miguel Penaloza and Dexter Haddock breaks from the inside post in a mile race and could be a pace factor early. At 5-1, the morning line is competitive enough that this horse warrants exotic inclusion.

U Dirty Dog (POST 4) at 10-1 for Charles Spina and Charlie Marquez is the second Spina runner. Marquez is a capable jockey but the 10-1 morning line suggests this is the less-preferred entry of the stable's two horses.

Foxiesbaymallow (POST 3) at 15-1 for Tony Wilson and Ramon F. Moya is a longshot that will need significant improvement to factor here.

Selections

Win: Amberjack (POST 2) Place: Frostelle (POST 8) Show: I'm Going Cruising (POST 6)

Betting Strategy: Exacta: Amberjack (POST 2) over Frostelle (POST 8) is the primary play. Also play Frostelle (POST 8) on top of Amberjack (POST 2) as a saver. Trifecta: key the top two with I'm Going Cruising (POST 6), Point Barrow (POST 7), and My Military Hero (POST 1) rounding out the bottom. At 2-1 and 3-1, the exacta will not return a huge number, so the trifecta is where the value is built.

RACE 6 — Post (3:39)/2:39/1:39/12:39 — 1870f | T | C | Clm 16000n3l | BUN | Purse $17,500

A $16,000 claiming race for non-winners of three lifetime on the turf going 1,870 feet — approximately eleven and a half furlongs — is a classic late-running race setup on the grass. Eight runners take to the turf course, with I'm Due (POST 1) opening as the 2-1 morning line favorite for Jose A. Gallegos and Pascacio Lopez.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Eleven-plus furlongs on the turf at the claiming level means a slow early pace is likely, with the real race beginning in the final three furlongs. I'm Due (POST 1) from the rail with Lopez will look to save ground throughout. That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2) and Solo Empire (POST 4) figure to be near the pace, while Prince Of Troy (POST 3) and Vesparo (POST 5) could sit in stalking spots. A slow pace in a long turf route can produce bunched finishes and longshot winners, making this race one of the most unpredictable on the card.

Key Contenders

I'm Due (POST 1) at 2-1 is a powerful play on paper. The rail post in a long turf route, combined with Gallegos having a live runner and Lopez in the irons, creates a horse that will save significant ground over the course of eleven-plus furlongs. At 2-1, the public has spoken, and Lopez's aggressive style fits a horse that needs to steal ground on the inside. The concern is that the rail can produce traffic issues in the late stages if horses drift wide.

Solo Empire (POST 4) at 3-1 for Rudy R. Rodriguez and Jose Antonio Gomez is the most serious threat to the favorite. Post 4 on the turf at this distance is nearly ideal, and Gomez has experience in turf routes at this level. If Solo Empire (POST 4) can track the pace comfortably and Gomez can find a gap in the stretch, this horse can beat the favorite.

Secondary Choices

That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney and Sonny Leon is a horse to respect. McBurney trains a quality string and Leon at 4-1 in a turf route is always worth a second look. Post 2 is ground-saving and sets this horse up for a classic grass performance.

Prince Of Troy (POST 3) at 4-1 for Russell J. Cash and Ramon F. Moya is another legitimate contender. Cash has been effective with turf horses at this level and Prince Of Troy (POST 3) at 4-1 from Post 3 offers good value. Moya is competent in turf routes and can wait for an opening late.

Longshots

Vesparo (POST 5) at 8-1 for Rory K. Huston and Jomar Torres presents a potential value play. Huston ships live horses to Monmouth and Vesparo (POST 5) at 8-1 in a turf route with Torres could be the late-running type to catch the leaders napping in a slow-pace scenario. Worth a small win bet for the adventurous.

Gaelicheartofgold (POST 6) at 10-1 for Devon Dougherty and Charlie Marquez is a longshot that could be awakened by a slow pace in a distance route. At 10-1, some trifecta use is warranted.

Airborne Elite (POST 7) at 12-1 for Wayne Potts and Martin Chuan is a Potts runner at a long morning line price. This suggests the trainer has other plans on the day or this horse needs significant improvement.

Son Of A Slew (POST 8) at 12-1 for Mike Dini and Francisco Martinez is the outside longshot. The wide post on the turf at this distance adds further difficulty. Use only in deep vertical exotics.

Selections

Win: I'm Due (POST 1) Place: Solo Empire (POST 4) Show: That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: Solo Empire (POST 4) at 3-1 over I'm Due (POST 1) is the key upset exacta. The favorite from the rail is vulnerable in a long turf route if traffic develops. Trifecta: use both top choices with That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2), Prince Of Troy (POST 3), and Vesparo (POST 5) in the third position. Vesparo (POST 5) at 8-1 in the trifecta could pay handsomely if the chalk wins and the second-place horse is a short-priced contender.

RACE 7 — Post (4:14)/3:14/2:14/1:14 — 1320f | D | N | JJReillyH75k | BUN | Purse $75,000

The John J. Reilly Handicap is the marquee event of the afternoon, a $75,000 stakes race for New Jersey-bred sprinters going a mile on the dirt. Ten runners take to the track in what figures to be the most competitive race of the card, headlined by Cairo Surprise (POST 5) as the 2-1 morning line choice for Cathal Lynch and Pascacio Lopez. This is a race that will separate the serious bettors from the casual players.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Ten horses going a mile in a stakes race for Jersey-breds creates a complex pace scenario. Speaking (POST 3) and Boardwalk Jack (POST 8) figure to be among the early pace-setters, while Cairo Surprise (POST 5) with Lynch's typical patient approach may sit just off the pace before making a move. Forever Chocolate (POST 1) from the inside rail with Leon could be forwardly placed as well. A contested pace in a stakes mile benefits the horses with the most class and best late kick, and Cairo Surprise (POST 5) and the Owens runners — Boardwalk Jack (POST 8) and Great Navigator (POST 9) — figure prominently.

Key Contenders

Cairo Surprise (POST 5) at 2-1 for Cathal Lynch and Pascacio Lopez is the morning line choice and deserves respect. Lynch is a sharp trainer who has competed at major tracks throughout his career, and Lopez has been the meet's most in-demand jockey. Post 5 in a ten-horse mile stakes is a prime position, and if Cairo Surprise has the class to handle this field, the race ends here. Lynch's horses typically run with tactical speed, which is ideal for a race of this profile.

Speaking (POST 3) at 4-1 for Eddie Owens Jr. and Luis R. Rivera Jr. is among the more dangerous threats to the favorite. Owens has three horses in this race — a dominant stable presence — and Speaking (POST 3) is the morning line leader of the group at 4-1. Rivera Jr. is aggressive in stakes races and from Post 3 in a ten-horse field, this horse has a legitimate chance to set or press the pace and hold on if the fractions are moderate.

Boardwalk Jack (POST 8) at 4-1 is the second Owens runner with Jorge A. Vargas Jr. in the irons. The outside post creates a slight challenge, but Vargas is capable of positioning this horse effectively. At 4-1 in a stakes race with a proven trainer, Boardwalk Jack (POST 8) is a genuine threat.

Secondary Choices

Great Navigator (POST 9) at 4-1 is the third Owens entry, this time with Jose Antonio Gomez. Having three horses at 4-1 morning line is an unusual situation that suggests Owens has a strong opinion that one of his three will win, but is uncertain which. The tote board movement near post time will tell the real story here.

Forever Chocolate (POST 1) at 10-1 for Rory K. Huston and Sonny Leon is an intriguing price play. Leon from the inside rail in a ten-horse stakes mile is a veteran setup — if the pace is fast enough, a horse that can stalk from the inside and slip through late can be a serious upset threat. At 10-1, Forever Chocolate (POST 1) is the most appealing longshot on the board.

Longshots

Spiritinthenight (POST 10) at 12-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Ramon F. Moya is a double-digit price with an outside post in a large field. Difficult to win from this spot, but worth a small trifecta inclusion.

Optical Bijou (POST 4) at 15-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. and Jomar Torres is a horse that could be live if the pace scenario unfolds favorably. Perkins is capable of having a horse ready to spring a surprise.

Higher Sense (POST 2) at 20-1 for Miguel Penaloza and Dexter Haddock is a big-priced longshot that would need a perfect trip to threaten. Include only in very wide exotic structures.

Pogi (POST 6) at 20-1 for Silvino Ramirez and Luis M. Ocasio is the other extreme longshot. The 20-1 price reflects Pogi's distance from the top of this field.

J J Zo Zo (POST 7) at 10-1 for Cesar Alcala and Jorge Luis Gonzalez is an interesting name for a race named the John J. Reilly Handicap. At 10-1, this horse warrants at least trifecta inclusion given the connection to the race's namesake and any potential course familiarity the connections might have developed. Alcala occasionally surprises in stakes company.

Selections

Win: Cairo Surprise (POST 5) Place: Speaking (POST 3) Show: Boardwalk Jack (POST 8)

Betting Strategy: This is the key race of the day for exotic wagering. With three Owens horses and a strong Lynch runner, the exacta and trifecta pools should be robust. Key Cairo Surprise (POST 5) on top of exactas with the three Owens runners — Speaking (POST 3), Boardwalk Jack (POST 8), and Great Navigator (POST 9). Also play Speaking (POST 3) on top of Cairo Surprise (POST 5) as an upset exacta. Trifecta: use Cairo Surprise (POST 5) on top, then spread to all three Owens horses plus Forever Chocolate (POST 1) and Optical Bijou (POST 4) in the remaining spots. If the three Owens horses are bet down at the windows below their morning line, shift emphasis toward Cairo Surprise (POST 5) as a single.

RACE 8 — Post (4:46)/3:46/2:46/1:46 — 1870f | T | C | Clm 16000b | BUM | Purse $17,000

The card concludes with a $16,000 claiming race for fillies and mares on the turf going 1,870 feet. Nine runners take to the grass in what figures to be an evenly matched field. Woodruff (POST 7) opens as the 3-1 morning line favorite for Lindsay Schultz and Pascacio Lopez.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Eleven-plus furlongs on the turf for fillies and mares at the claiming level means a likely slow early pace, with the real race developing in the final quarter mile. Radar Loop (POST 2) and Backseat Romance (POST 9) could be among the forwardly placed runners, while Woodruff (POST 7) from the outside with Lopez will likely settle and make a sweeping run in the stretch. Spanish Girl (POST 5) and More Vino Rosa (POST 4) could be pace factors from mid-field posts.

Key Contenders

Woodruff (POST 7) at 3-1 for Schultz and Lopez is the choice, as the same combination of Schultz and Lopez collaborated on Belvedere Club (POST 2) earlier in the card. Schultz clearly has her horses running well enough to attract Lopez's business, and Woodruff (POST 7) as the morning line favorite in the finale deserves respect. Post 7 on a turf course in a nine-horse field is reasonable, and Lopez will know how to position this filly or mare in a long grass route.

Backseat Romance (POST 9) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney and Jose Antonio Gomez is the primary threat to the favorite. McBurney has horses running competitively throughout this card and Backseat Romance (POST 9) at 4-1 from the outside post in a turf route is the type of setup where a late-running type can close over tired rivals. Gomez is experienced in turf routes.

Secondary Choices

More Vino Rosa (POST 4) at 5-1 for Kathleen O'Connell and C. Sutherland is a competitive secondary choice. O'Connell also enters First Hathor (POST 1) in this race, giving the barn a two-horse entry. Between the two, More Vino Rosa (POST 4) at 5-1 with Sutherland is clearly the preferred runner based on the morning line discrepancy. Post 4 on the turf is a prime position in a nine-horse field.

Radar Loop (POST 2) at 4-1 for Mike Dini and Sonny Leon is the co-second choice on morning line. Dini also enters El Ma'any (POST 3) in this race, making it another two-horse stable entry. Radar Loop (POST 2) with Leon aboard is clearly the primary Dini runner. At 4-1 from Post 2 with Leon in the irons, this is a horse that must be respected in all exotic plays.

Longshots

Richie's Valentine (POST 8) at 6-1 for Sergio Rabadan and Charlie Marquez is an interesting price. Marquez is a capable jockey and Richie's Valentine (POST 8) at 6-1 could be a live longshot in what figures to be an evenly matched finale.

El Ma'any (POST 3) at 8-1 is the second Dini entry with Francisco Martinez. The longer morning line compared to Radar Loop (POST 2) confirms the stable's preference. Include sparingly in trifectas.

First Hathor (POST 1) at 10-1 for O'Connell and P.L. Cotto Jr. is the secondary O'Connell runner from the rail. The inside post on the turf can be advantageous if First Hathor (POST 1) gets a clean, ground-saving trip.

Sexpectations (POST 6) at 10-1 for Riquelvis Grullon and Jorge Luis Gonzalez is a longshot without compelling credentials based on the morning line.

Spanish Girl (POST 5) at 15-1 for Joann Bertone and Jomar Torres is the biggest price outside of the top tier. Bertone's horses occasionally surface as surprise winners, and Torres is capable, but the 15-1 morning line is a significant hurdle to overcome.

Selections

Win: Woodruff (POST 7) Place: Radar Loop (POST 2) Show: Backseat Romance (POST 9)

Betting Strategy: Exacta: Woodruff (POST 7) over Radar Loop (POST 2) and Backseat Romance (POST 9). Also use Radar Loop (POST 2) on top of Woodruff (POST 7) as a saver. Trifecta: use the top three with More Vino Rosa (POST 4) and Richie's Valentine (POST 8) rounding out the bottom. In the final race of the day, consolidating leftover exotic bankroll into a solid trifecta box of Woodruff (POST 7), Radar Loop (POST 2), and Backseat Romance (POST 9) is a clean, professional approach.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Pascacio Lopez is the jockey to follow today at Monmouth Park. He rides in seven of the eight races and has been entrusted with morning line favorites in multiple events: Copernium (POST 7) in Race 1, Black Label (POST 7) in Race 2, Chelsea Wall (POST 4) in Race 3, Bashful Baby (POST 7) in Race 4, Amberjack (POST 2) in Race 5, I'm Due (POST 1) in Race 6, Cairo Surprise (POST 5) in Race 7, and Woodruff (POST 7) in Race 8. When a jockey of Lopez's caliber is receiving this many live mounts across the card, it speaks to the confidence the training community has in his ability. He is the card's obvious riding leader and any race in which he is aboard a morning line favorite should receive added weight in your handicapping.

Sonny Leon is the second most active jockey on the card, appearing in seven races. Leon has been a transformative presence in American racing in recent seasons and continues to ride aggressively and intelligently. He gets notable assignments on Hurricane Mo (POST 5) in Race 2, Derby Hangover (POST 5) in Race 4, I'm Going Cruising (POST 6) in Race 5, That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2) in Race 6, Forever Chocolate (POST 1) in Race 7, and Radar Loop (POST 2) in Race 8. Leon's presence on Forever Chocolate (POST 1) in the John J. Reilly Handicap makes that horse a strong underlay consideration at 10-1 morning line.

Luis R. Rivera Jr. is another jockey who appears throughout the card and has the ability to win with live mounts. He is aboard Rogue Justice (POST 2) in Race 3, By My Dreams (POST 3) in Race 4, Decimated (POST 5) in Race 5, and Speaking (POST 3) in Race 7. His mount on the stakes race is the most significant and should be watched carefully.

Jomar Torres is active throughout the card, appearing in multiple races including Equus (POST 6) in Race 3 and Vesparo (POST 5) in Race 6. Torres has been steadily improving at this meet and is a jockey to watch in races where he is aboard a horse with live credentials.

Charlie Marquez appears in Races 1, 2, 5, and 8 and is a capable veteran who can produce results when given a live mount. His presence on U Dirty Dog (POST 4) in Race 5 versus the preferred stablemate Decimated (POST 5) is worth noting — Marquez may be the pacer-setter in the Spina barn's race-within-a-race strategy.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Wayne Potts is the most prominent trainer on today's card, appearing in Races 1, 3, and 6 with multiple entries. In Race 1, he sends My Man Money (POST 3) and Essentially Fast (POST 6) out at 4-1 and 6-1, respectively. In Race 3, Salagadoola (POST 3) and Sherunsthistown (POST 5) carry the Potts colors. The morning line discrepancy in each race suggests My Man Money (POST 3) and Salagadoola (POST 3) are the preferred runners. Potts is well-established at Monmouth and his horses typically arrive fit and competitive.

Eddie Owens Jr. is the trainer of the day in terms of intrigue. He saddles three horses in the John J. Reilly Handicap — Speaking (POST 3), Boardwalk Jack (POST 8), and Great Navigator (POST 9) — all at 4-1. This is an unusual stable configuration that makes betting the race complicated. Owens also has two runners in Race 2 with Sea Devil (POST 1) and City Streaker (POST 2). Watch the tote board carefully for Owens horses in both races, as money will indicate which runner the connections prefer.

Jorge Delgado has morning line favorites in both Race 2 (BLACK LABEL, POST 7) and Race 5 (AMBERJACK, POST 2), which suggests his stable is in peak form heading into this Sunday card. If either or both of his favorites win, it will be a strong day for the Delgado barn.

Cathal Lynch with Cairo Surprise (POST 5) in the John J. Reilly Handicap is a trainer worth knowing. Lynch has competed at major tracks including Saratoga and has the credentials to handle a stakes race effectively. His choice of Lopez as jockey confirms he is giving Cairo Surprise (POST 5) every chance to win.

Kathleen O'Connell has two horses in Race 8 — First Hathor (POST 1) at 10-1 and More Vino Rosa (POST 4) at 5-1 — and also enters April Spun (POST 6) in Race 4. The O'Connell barn's two-entry strategy in Race 8 with a clear preference for More Vino Rosa (POST 4) is informative.

Mike Dini enters Radar Loop (POST 2) and El Ma'any (POST 3) in Race 8, following a pattern similar to Owens and O'Connell of using two horses in the same race. Dini's clear preference — indicated by Leon being assigned to Radar Loop (POST 2) — makes that horse the stable's primary runner in the finale.

Richard E. Dutrow's appearance at this level with Bashful Baby (POST 7) in Race 4 is noteworthy. Dutrow has historically been one of the game's most effective trainers in developing horses through the maiden ranks, and his presence in a maiden claimer on the turf with a 2-1 morning line horse suggests confidence.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The race card at Monmouth Park on June 7, 2026 presents a number of structured wagering opportunities. Below are the key angles and recommended exotic plays for serious bettors.

The Pick 4 covering Races 5 through 8 is the marquee vertical exotic of the afternoon. Key Amberjack (POST 2) in Race 5 (single or part of a two-horse key), single Cairo Surprise (POST 5) in Race 7 given the strength of the Lynch-Lopez combination, and use Woodruff (POST 7) with Radar Loop (POST 2) in Race 8. In Race 6, spread to I'm Due (POST 1) and Solo Empire (POST 4) with That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2) as a third option. A ticket structure of Amberjack (POST 2) and Frostelle (POST 8) over I'm Due (POST 1) / Solo Empire (POST 4) / That Sun Of A Gun (POST 2) over Cairo Surprise (POST 5) over Woodruff (POST 7) / Radar Loop (POST 2) covers the most likely outcome at a reasonable cost.

The best value single on the card is Forever Chocolate (POST 1) at 10-1 in the John J. Reilly Handicap. Sonny Leon from the inside rail in the card's biggest race, for a trainer who ships live horses to Monmouth, is a classic angle that the public tends to overlook. If Forever Chocolate (POST 1) fires its best race, the 10-1 price will represent excellent value.

In Race 2, the Eddie Owens Jr. double-entry of Sea Devil (POST 1) and City Streaker (POST 2) creates a legitimate wagering angle. The two horses combined at 4-1 each represent the stable's best chances, and buying both in exactas with Black Label (POST 7) on top is the clean play. If Owens splits the field and one of his runners hits the board, the trifecta payout with a shorter-priced favorite on top could be meaningful.

The Race 7 exacta structure — Cairo Surprise (POST 5) on top of any Owens runner — is the single most important exacta of the day. If the favorite wins and any of the three Owens horses finish second, the exacta will pay a reasonable price given the stacking of 2-1 and 4-1 horses. The upset play is any Owens horse on top of Cairo Surprise (POST 5) at a better price.

Morning line analysis across the card reveals that Lopez's mounts are consistently installed as morning line favorites or co-favorites in six of eight races. This reflects the trust placed in him by the training colony and creates a potential all-Lopez Pick 4 or Pick 6 angle for bettors who believe he will sweep the card. That said, using Lopez singles in vertical exotics is risky given the natural variance in horse racing, and the best approach is to use him as a single in races where his mount has a clear class edge (Race 5 with AMBERJACK, POST 2, and Race 7 with CAIRO SURPRISE, POST 5) while spreading in the tighter races.

For the daily double covering Races 7 and 8, use Cairo Surprise (POST 5) with Woodruff (POST 7) as the primary ticket, and add Speaking (POST 3) or any Owens horse with Radar Loop (POST 2) as a saver.

The best overall strategy for today's card is to target the John J. Reilly Handicap in Race 7 as the cornerstone of your vertical exotic plays, treating Cairo Surprise (POST 5) as a single or near-single in Pick 3 and Pick 4 structures, while using wide spreads in the contentious turf routes in Races 6 and 8. The maiden claimer in Race 4 is the most unpredictable race of the day and should be used with a wide spread or passed entirely in your verticals if budget is a concern.
