Track Surface & Bias

Century Mile's dirt (D) surface typically plays fair-to-mildly speed-favoring, with front‑runners and pace‑pressers holding an edge, especially in sprint distances. Historically, the long home stretch allows stalkers to finish well if the early fractions are contested, but true deep closers usually need a strong early pace and/or slightly tiring footing to be most effective. Inside to middle posts are generally acceptable; extreme outside posts can be at a minor disadvantage in shorter races where early position is crucial.

Handicapper’s Edge

Under a typical Century Mile dirt profile, give slight preference to horses with tactical speed who can secure position within the first flight without needing the lead at all costs. In sprints, lean toward pace‑pressers and stalking types drawn inside-to-middle; in routes, upgrade runners that can sit just off the pace and sustain a long, grinding run through the extended stretch.
