Thistledown Race Day Overview — July 14, 2026

Thistledown Racetrack rolls out a nine-race card on a Tuesday afternoon in the heart of the northern Ohio summer meet. The program is built almost entirely on claiming conditions, with the lone exception being Race 7, an allowance for non-winners of two lifetime at the top of the purse scale. Purses today range from a low of $12,600 in the restricted $5,000 claimer in Race 3 up to $31,400 in the allowance feature. The bulk of the card sits in the $16,000 claiming bracket, which draws out some of the more competitive fields of the afternoon. All nine races are scheduled over the main dirt track at distances of either 1210 feet (approximately six furlongs) or 1320 feet (approximately six and a half furlongs), giving pace handicappers a consistent framework to work within all day.

The Radosevich barn is the most active stable on today's program, saddling entries in Races 1, 2, 5, and 8. Trainer Shane Meyers also has multiple entries, appearing in Races 1, 2, and 4. The Ibarra barn sends out a pair in Race 6, while trainer James R. Jackson fields a couple in the featured Race 7. The jockey colony is led by Fernando Salazar Becerra, Jefferson Skerrett, Victor R. Fernandez, and L R Rivera, each of whom carries multiple mounts throughout the afternoon.

No major scratches or equipment changes have been reported ahead of first post.

Weather and Track Conditions — July 14, 2026

The Cleveland metropolitan area, which encompasses the Thistledown oval in North Randall, Ohio, is forecast to be partly cloudy on July 14 with high temperatures reaching into the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Humidity will be moderate for midsummer, and there is no meaningful precipitation in the forecast heading into race day. Winds are expected out of the southwest at 8 to 12 miles per hour, which at Thistledown's configuration generally does not present a significant headwind factor on the homestretch.

The track is expected to be listed as fast for the dirt surface going into first post. Given the dry conditions over the prior several days and no rain in the near-term forecast, the main track should remain firm and consistent throughout the card. A fast, dry Thistledown surface tends to favor horses with early speed and those who can secure comfortable positions near the lead without expending excessive early energy.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis — Thistledown

Thistledown is a five-eighths-mile oval with relatively tight turns. In fast conditions, the track historically plays to horses with early speed, particularly those that can secure rail or stalking positions into and through the first turn. For sprint distances of six furlongs and six and a half furlongs, post position inside of five tends to carry a modest but measurable advantage, as horses breaking from outside posts must either use early speed to clear across or take up a wider trip around both turns.

In the six-furlong configuration, horses breaking from posts one through four enjoy the most favorable path to the first turn and are able to conserve energy while maintaining competitive position. Posts five through seven are workable for closers or horses with tactical versatility. Posts eight and nine at six furlongs demand either exceptional early speed to clear the field or acceptance of a wider trip.

For the six and a half furlong route, the break from the chute adds a short run before the first turn, which modestly neutralizes inside post advantages but still favors speed-sided draws. On today's fast surface, expect front-runners and pace pressers to perform well, and note any horses breaking from posts seven through nine at six furlongs who must overcome a path disadvantage.

RACE 1 — Post (12:50)/11:50/10:50/9:50 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500 | BUN | Purse $22,400

This opening race goes six furlongs on the dirt for male claimers entered for $7,500. The field of nine figures to be contentious from the gate, as several of these horses carry legitimate early foot.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

The pace scenario here shapes up as moderately contested to hot. Bumpkin (POST 4) and Red Head Kid (POST 1) both figure to want the front end, and May Mayhem (POST 9), trained by the same Radosevich barn that sends out the rail horse, adds a third potential speed element. Ilikethat (POST 2) and Right On The Munny (POST 3) are likely to settle into a tracking position behind whatever pace develops. If two or three horses duel aggressively for the lead, the pace could set up for a closer or stalker making a mid-race run. Silent Drill (POST 5) and Nambiti (POST 7) could theoretically benefit from a hot pace scenario.

Key Contenders

Bumpkin (POST 4) draws the second post from the inside and has the tactical advantage of a clean break from a favorable position. Trained by Shane Meyers, who is a consistent presence throughout this card, BUMPKIN is the morning line favorite at 3-1 and projects to get a stalking or pace-pressing trip from the advantageous four-hole. Meyers has shown an ability to spot his horses shrewdly at this level, and handicappers have identified BUMPKIN as the horse to beat based on recent form and the quality of his prior competition.

Right On The Munny (POST 3) is co-second choice at 4-1 and draws immediately inside the favorite. Trainer Nicole Higham puts Chelsey Keiser aboard, and the combination has been productive at this oval. RIGHT ON THE MUNNY figures to stalk the pace and should have enough finishing kick to be involved at the wire if the early fractions get quick.

May Mayhem (POST 9) is the second Radosevich entry at 4-1 and draws the outside post. The outside draw at six furlongs is an obstacle, but the Jeff Radosevich barn is sharp today with multiple entries, and L R Rivera gets the call. If MAY MAYHEM has sufficient early speed to clear and find a comfortable position before the first turn, the horse could prove dangerous.

Secondary Choices

Ilikethat (POST 2) at 5-1 draws the two-hole for trainer Nestor R. Rivera and gets Fernando Salazar Becerra up. This horse is positioned perfectly from a tactical standpoint and should get a ground-saving trip just off the early pace. If BUMPKIN and RED HEAD KID use each other up through the opening panels, ILIKETHAT could come with a sustained run late.

Red Head Kid (POST 1) at 6-1 has the rail and draws a natural advantage at six furlongs on a fast surface. Trainer Jeff Radosevich deploys Erik Barbaran, and this horse could take back or press, depending on how the fractions unfold. The inside post is a genuine edge today, and if the horse breaks cleanly, RED HEAD KID could be tougher than the morning line suggests.

Longshots

Nambiti (POST 7) at 8-1 for trainer Richard Zielinski and jockey Rocco Bowen is the most interesting longshot in this field. Horses trained by Zielinski at this level can show up fresh and improved, and the 8-1 price is workable in exotics.

Zakaria (POST 8) at 10-1 for trainer Susan D. Yoder and Jefferson Skerrett draws an awkward outside post. The 10-1 morning line is understandable given the draw and the layered pace scenario. Speculative use only in wide exotics.

Silent Drill (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Craig Sweeting and Victor R. Fernandez is a deep price that requires the pace to collapse entirely before this horse has a chance. Sweeting is not without a win at this level, but 12-1 reflects the challenge here. Jim's River Runner (POST 6) at 12-1 for trainer Stephani Norris and Luis Alberto Batista is similarly a token use in horizontal exotics only.

Selections

Win: Bumpkin (POST 4) Place: Right On The Munny (POST 3) Show: Ilikethat (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: Bumpkin (POST 4) is the play to win, with Right On The Munny (POST 3) and Ilikethat (POST 2) underneath in exactas. An exacta box of the top three at 4-1, 4-1, and 3-1 offers modest value. For trifectas, use Bumpkin (POST 4) on top with Right On The Munny (POST 3) and Ilikethat (POST 2) in the middle, spread to Red Head Kid (POST 1) and May Mayhem (POST 9) in the third slot.

RACE 2 — Post (1:20)/12:20/11:20/10:20 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 16000b | BUN | Purse $21,900

The second race stretches to six and a half furlongs for male claimers at the $16,000 level with a “b” tag, indicating these horses can be claimed for the base price with a bonus increment. The eight-horse field includes a morning line odds-on co-favorite in That's The Way (POST 4) and a competitive cluster at 4-1.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

That's The Way (POST 4) likely controls or sets the pace from the inside-out position, which is comfortably situated for a six and a half furlong sprint. Drill City (POST 5) will be looking to press from just outside, and John Fitzgerald (POST 8) may apply pressure from farther back depending on how the fractions develop. Social History (POST 6) and Ollie's Folly (POST 7) project as mid-pack stalkers who could rally if the two leaders overextend themselves. The pace here shapes up as honest rather than suicidal, which tends to favor pace setters at Thistledown on a fast track.

Key Contenders

That's The Way (POST 4) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Jeff Radosevich and jockey Erik Barbaran. Radosevich has already sent out two horses in Race 1 and clearly likes his chances on this card. Barbaran riding for his top trainer is a meaningful angle. At six and a half furlongs from post four, THAT'S THE WAY has an ideal setup. Handicappers make this horse the clear top choice.

Social History (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Robert C. Cline and Jose A. Bracho is identified as the main threat. Cline is a competent conditioner at this level, and SOCIAL HISTORY figures to stalk the pace from a mid-field position and come home with a sharp run. The post is workable from six wide.

Ollie's Folly (POST 7) at 4-1 for trainer Ricardo Gonzalez and Jason Simpson is another stalker who could benefit from any early pace duel. Gonzalez is active in the colony and Simpson has shown he can get horses home at Thistledown.

Secondary Choices

Reigning Dream (POST 2) at 4-1 for trainer Richard Zielinski and Humberto Haldar draws the two-hole and gets a favorable path into the first turn. This horse is live at the price and could sneak into the exacta if THAT'S THE WAY gets hustled early.

Drill City (POST 5) at 5-1 for trainer Shane Meyers and Jefferson Skerrett is a pace presser who sets up the Meyers-Skerrett combination. Meyers is one of the most active trainers on today's card, and Skerrett is among the busiest riders. The five-hole in a six and a half furlong race is workable, and DRILL CITY at 5-1 offers fair value.

John Fitzgerald (POST 8) at 8-1 for trainer Craig Sweeting and Victor R. Fernandez has the outside post, which at six and a half furlongs is a manageable disadvantage if the horse has tactical flexibility. The 8-1 is worth a small-stakes inclusion in trifecta tickets.

Longshots

Dew It With Class (POST 1) at 15-1 for trainer Johanna Urieta and D L Parker gets the rail, which is an advantage at this distance, but the morning line suggests connections have modest expectations. Token use in superfectas.

Marquitos M (POST 3) at 20-1 for trainer Richard Rettele and T D Houghton is the longest price in the field. The 20-1 morning line likely reflects a form concern or class question. Pass in straight bets; minimal use in superfectas only.

Selections

Win: That's The Way (POST 4) Place: Social History (POST 6) Show: Reigning Dream (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: That's The Way (POST 4) is a strong single candidate for the Pick sequence. Exacta: That's The Way (POST 4) over Social History (POST 6) and Ollie's Folly (POST 7). Trifecta key: That's The Way (POST 4) on top, with Social History (POST 6), Reigning Dream (POST 2), and Drill City (POST 5) filling the bottom two spots.

RACE 3 — Post (1:50)/12:50/11:50/10:50 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 5000n2y | BUM | Purse $12,600

Race 3 is a six-furlong sprint for female claimers who have not won two races in the previous year, entered for $5,000. The low purse and restricted conditions invite a competitive but modest field of six mares and fillies.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Special Beach (POST 3) and Twilight Vision (POST 6) share morning line co-favoritism at 2-1 each, and the pace scenario between them is the central question. If SPECIAL BEACH has legitimate early speed, the pace will be set from a favorable inside position. TWILIGHT VISION breaking from the outside at six furlongs in a small field will need to navigate or be taken back. Remember Me (POST 2) and Kozem (POST 4) project as the natural stalkers. In a six-horse field, the pace often remains manageable, which slightly favors the front-runners.

Key Contenders

Special Beach (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer Joseph P. Mahan and Victor R. Fernandez is ideally positioned from the three-hole. Mahan is a capable conditioner and Fernandez is one of the busier riders on the grounds. SPECIAL BEACH at co-favorite odds with a favorable draw is the horse to beat in a short field.

Twilight Vision (POST 6) at 2-1 for trainer James R. Jackson and L R Rivera draws the outside post in a six-horse field, which at six furlongs is more manageable than in a nine-horse sprint. Jackson also saddles City Scene (POST 2) in the Race 7 feature, suggesting an active and confident barn today. Rivera has been in good form and will likely sit just off any pace that develops.

Secondary Choices

Remember Me (POST 2) at 4-1 for trainer Jevon Crumley and Chelsey Keiser draws the two-hole and should get a clean trip stalking the pace. At 4-1, REMEMBER ME represents fair value if the two co-favorites fight each other to a standstill.

Kozem (POST 4) at 4-1 for trainer Caryn Vecchio and Fernando Salazar Becerra has a mid-field draw and a capable jockey. Vecchio also sends out Hidden Access (POST 3) in Race 4, suggesting confidence in her barn's form. KOZEM at 4-1 is a legitimate contender in both straight and exotic play.

Longshots

Thee New Beginning (POST 1) at 8-1 for trainer Manuel Vlaun and Jefferson Skerrett draws the rail, which is a genuine advantage at six furlongs. The 8-1 price may be slightly inflated given the post position edge. Worth including in trifectas if the price holds at or near the morning line.

Here Kitty Kitty (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Manuel Vlaun and McKenna Anderson is the longest price in the field. Vlaun's two entries today suggest a barn trying to find a winner, but HERE KITTY KITTY's 12-1 morning line limits enthusiasm. Use only in superfectas.

Selections

Win: Special Beach (POST 3) Place: Twilight Vision (POST 6) Show: Kozem (POST 4)

Betting Strategy: With two co-favorites, the win pool will be deflated regardless of outcome. The best value play is an exacta box of Special Beach (POST 3), Twilight Vision (POST 6), and Kozem (POST 4). The trifecta with those three in any order at a $1 box is the recommended play, with Remember Me (POST 2) as an add-on.

RACE 4 — Post (2:20)/1:20/12:20/11:20 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 16000b | BUN | Purse $21,900

Race 4 mirrors the conditions of Race 2, a six and a half furlong dirt sprint for male claimers at $16,000 with the bonus tag. The eight-horse field includes a morning line favorite at 2-1 and a competitive cluster of 4-1 shots.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Roll On Big O (POST 1) at 2-1 from the rail is a natural pace scenario centerpiece. If this horse has legitimate early speed, the inside post at six and a half furlongs is a powerful edge on a fast surface. Last Minute Mikey (POST 6) and Colonel Cooper (POST 8) add secondary pace pressure from outside. Mamas Home Cooking (POST 2) and Hidden Access (POST 3) project as natural stalkers, positioned to inherit a good trip if the rail horse gets challenged early.

Key Contenders

Roll On Big O (POST 1) at 2-1 for trainer Marco Ibarra and Luis Alberto Batista is the morning line choice and draws the ideal post for a speed horse at Thistledown. Ibarra also enters Mr Loooch (POST 4) in Race 6, suggesting a busy and productive barn. ROLL ON BIG O from the inside with Batista up is a straightforward play, but the 2-1 price compresses the value.

Colonel Cooper (POST 8) at 4-1 for trainer Timothy Hamm and Rocco Bowen is the main competition. The outside post at six and a half furlongs requires Bowen to either secure early position or take back and make a run from behind. Hamm is an established presence in the colony, and COLONEL COOPER at 4-1 offers fair value against the even-money shot.

Last Minute Mikey (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Julie A. Pappada and Fernando Salazar Becerra is another 4-1 contender with pace-pressing credentials. Pappada has been effective at placing horses in soft spots, and the six-hole gives Salazar Becerra room to maneuver.

Secondary Choices

Hidden Access (POST 3) at 5-1 for trainer Caryn Vecchio and Jefferson Skerrett is a stalker who draws the three-hole, an excellent post for a horse who wants to settle and make a sustained run. Vecchio also enters Kozem (POST 4) in Race 3, and the barn shows signs of being in good form. Skerrett is among the colony leaders in mounts today.

Mamas Home Cooking (POST 2) at 6-1 for trainer Robert C. Cline and Victor R. Fernandez draws the two-hole and projects as a natural rail-running stalker. Cline also enters Social History (POST 6) in Race 2, and the trainer has been consistent in placing horses appropriately at the $16,000 level.

Dr. Zarnett (POST 7) at 8-1 for trainer Shane Meyers and Chelsey Keiser is a Meyers entry that commands attention regardless of morning line odds. Meyers consistently activates horses at this level, and 8-1 could be slightly generous for a barn firing on all cylinders today.

Longshots

Venture On (POST 4) at 20-1 for trainer Ricardo Bailey and T D Houghton is the price horse of the race and requires a dream scenario to compete. Minimal use in superfectas.

Merger (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Mary L. Hurley and David J. Haldar is a mid-field price that could turn up in the trifecta at a big price if the pace collapses. Token inclusion in wide trifectas.

Selections

Win: Roll On Big O (POST 1) Place: Colonel Cooper (POST 8) Show: Last Minute Mikey (POST 6)

Betting Strategy: Roll On Big O (POST 1) is solid but short. The best wagering approach is an exacta with Roll On Big O (POST 1) on top over Colonel Cooper (POST 8) and Last Minute Mikey (POST 6), then reverse with Colonel Cooper (POST 8) on top in case the favorite gets beaten. Trifecta: Roll On Big O (POST 1) and Colonel Cooper (POST 8) over all in the third slot.

RACE 5 — Post (2:50)/1:50/12:50/11:50 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 16000b | BUM | Purse $21,900

Race 5 is the female counterpart to the $16,000 claiming races, six and a half furlongs for mares and fillies. The seven-horse field features a pair of 2-1 co-favorites and a competitive 5-1 closer.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Val's Twinstar (POST 3) and Lil Bit (POST 6) share co-favoritism at 2-1, and the pace dynamics between them will determine how the race unfolds. If VAL'S TWINSTAR is the speed and LIL BIT is a stalker, then the pace will be honest and the favorite setup is relatively clean. Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 5-1 is likely a closer and benefits most from a quick pace. Driven For Success (POST 2) from the Radosevich barn adds another potential pace element. The Radosevich barn has been aggressive all afternoon with speed horses, and Driven For Success (POST 2) could complicate the early fractions.

Key Contenders

Val's Twinstar (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer Valerie K. Shanyfelt and L A Gonzalez draws the three-hole and has a natural inside advantage. Shanyfelt focuses heavily on this level of claiming, and Gonzalez has been sharp in recent form. The three-post at six and a half furlongs is ideal for a pace-pressing type.

Lil Bit (POST 6) at 2-1 for trainer Ivan Vazquez and Fernando Salazar Becerra is the other co-favorite. The six-hole means LIL BIT will need to either press early or settle into a mid-pack position. Salazar Becerra is riding with confidence throughout today's card.

Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Timothy Hamm and Rocco Bowen breaks from the outside post. Hamm's barn is also sending out Colonel Cooper (POST 8) in Race 4, and the trainer has an active book today. If the pace between the two 2-1 shots gets honest, Come On Arlene (POST 7) closing from the outside is a legitimate threat.

Secondary Choices

Go Girl (POST 4) at 4-1 for trainer Susan D. Yoder and Jefferson Skerrett occupies the middle of the field and is in a tactical position to stalk the pace. Yoder also enters Zakaria (POST 8) in Race 1. GO GIRL at 4-1 represents fair value and should be included in all exotic combinations.

Driven For Success (POST 2) at 6-1 for trainer Jeff Radosevich and L R Rivera is the Radosevich barn's entry in Race 5. Rivera has been a go-to rider for this barn throughout the card, and 6-1 on a pace-pressing type from the Radosevich stable carries some credibility. If DRIVEN FOR SUCCESS gets loose on the front end, the price is attractive.

Longshots

Angel I'm Not (POST 5) at 10-1 for trainer Robert C. Cline and Victor R. Fernandez is a price horse from a trainer with multiple entries today. The 10-1 suggests Cline views this as the weaker of his entries today, but Fernandez riding for the barn keeps the horse on the exotics radar.

Mandolin Breeze (POST 1) at 12-1 for trainer Richard Rettele and Anthony Rodriguez draws the rail, which is a positive post for the distance, but the 12-1 morning line reflects form issues. Token use in trifectas and superfectas only.

Selections

Win: Lil Bit (POST 6) Place: Val's Twinstar (POST 3) Show: Come On Arlene (POST 7)

Betting Strategy: With co-favorites, the exacta box of Val's Twinstar (POST 3) and Lil Bit (POST 6) is a low-risk play. The real value is betting Come On Arlene (POST 7) to win at 5-1 if the morning line holds, as this horse could run right past both favorites if they press each other. Trifecta: use all three in any order, plus Go Girl (POST 4) as a fourth wheel in the trifecta third slot.

RACE 6 — Post (3:20)/2:20/1:20/12:20 — 1210f | D | CO | OClm 12500 | BUN | Purse $25,600

Race 6 is an open claiming race at $12,500 for males at six furlongs, a mixed-age, open condition that draws one of the more interesting six-horse fields of the afternoon. The higher purse of $25,600 attracts a quality group at this price point.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Coastland (POST 3) at 2-1 is the morning line choice and is likely to either set or press the pace from the three-hole. Mr Loooch (POST 4), the second Ibarra entry, will likely contest the pace from just outside, which could create an interesting duel between stable-mates trained by Marco Ibarra. Midnight Warship (POST 6) at 3-1 draws the outside and is likely to stalk or close from behind, which on a fast Thistledown surface is a workable scenario. Blazing Tony (POST 1) and Gunner Gabriel (POST 2) add inner-post speed pressure early.

Key Contenders

Coastland (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer Marco Ibarra and L A Gonzalez is the morning line choice and draws a favorable post. Ibarra already has Roll On Big O (POST 1) in Race 4, and the trainer appears to have a strong book today. COASTLAND at 2-1 from the three-hole in a six-furlong sprint on a fast track is a straightforward play, though the price again compresses value.

Midnight Warship (POST 6) at 3-1 for trainer Mike Rone and L R Rivera is the main challenger. Rivera is riding with purpose throughout today's card, and MIDNIGHT WARSHIP closing from the outside at six furlongs is a legitimate threat if the pace gets heated between the Ibarra pair. The 3-1 against a 2-1 favorite offers reasonable value.

Gunner Gabriel (POST 2) at 4-1 for trainer Johanna Urieta and D L Parker draws the two-hole, a prime inside post at six furlongs. Urieta also enters Dew It With Class (POST 1) in Race 2, and the trainer is comfortable at this claiming level.

Secondary Choices

Mr Loooch (POST 4) at 4-1 for trainer Marco Ibarra and Alexander Chavez is the second Ibarra entry and technically a secondary choice, but any barn that fields two horses in the same race is worth monitoring for the one they prefer to win. Chavez is a capable jockey and gets a favorable post.

Check The Facts (POST 5) at 6-1 for trainer Justine Eder and Angel I. Diaz is a mid-field stalker with a workable post and a morning line that suggests mild expectations. Eder also sends out Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) in Race 8. At 6-1, CHECK THE FACTS deserves inclusion in trifectas and superfectas.

Longshots

Blazing Tony (POST 1) at 6-1 for trainer Ricardo Gonzalez and Jason Simpson draws the rail, which is traditionally the best post at six furlongs on a fast Thistledown surface. The 6-1 morning line on a horse with a rail draw in a six-furlong sprint feels slightly generous. Gonzalez also sends out Ollie's Folly (POST 7) in Race 2 and Yellow Feathers (POST 1) in Race 7. If BLAZING TONY has the speed to lead from the inside, the 6-1 could be the best price on the board today.

Selections

Win: Coastland (POST 3) Place: Midnight Warship (POST 6) Show: Blazing Tony (POST 1)

Betting Strategy: Coastland (POST 3) is the top selection, but Blazing Tony (POST 1) at 6-1 from the rail is the most interesting value play of the race. Exacta: Coastland (POST 3) over Midnight Warship (POST 6) and Blazing Tony (POST 1), with a reverse using Blazing Tony (POST 1) on top. In the trifecta, use Coastland (POST 3) and Midnight Warship (POST 6) on top, spreading to Blazing Tony (POST 1), Gunner Gabriel (POST 2), Mr Loooch (POST 4), and Check The Facts (POST 5) underneath.

RACE 7 — Post (3:50)/2:50/1:50/12:50 — 1320f | D | A | Alw 31400n2y | BUM | Purse $31,400

The featured allowance race is six and a half furlongs for females who have not won two races at any level. The highest purse on the card at $31,400 draws a six-horse field with legitimate quality. Trainer James R. Jackson fires two entries, City Scene (POST 2) and Candlelight Hours (POST 5), suggesting strong barn confidence heading into the day's most prestigious race.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

City Scene (POST 2) at 2-1 and Candlelight Hours (POST 5) at 3-1, both from the Jackson barn, are likely to be positioned differently in the running. The potential for a stable entry to control the pace from two different positions in the field creates a strategic advantage for Jackson. Practicallyelusive (POST 6) at 4-1 and Key To Success (POST 3) at 5-1 figure as natural stalkers. Yellow Feathers (POST 1) and Austrian Navy (POST 4) complete the field and could contribute early pace pressure or position themselves as closers depending on their running style.

Key Contenders

City Scene (POST 2) at 2-1 for trainer James R. Jackson and L R Rivera is the morning line choice and the centerpiece of the Jackson stable entry. Rivera has been riding well throughout the afternoon, and from the two-hole in a six-horse field, CITY SCENE has the ideal setup. Handicappers view this as the top selection in the feature.

Candlelight Hours (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer James R. Jackson and Erik Barbaran is the companion entry. Barbaran has ridden well for Radosevich all day but takes this mount for the Jackson barn in the feature. The five-hole in a small field at six and a half furlongs is workable, and a stable entry that runs one-two gives both horses a tactical advantage.

Practicallyelusive (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer David Wolochuk and Chelsey Keiser breaks from the outside post. Wolochuk is less prominent than Jackson on this card, but PRACTICALLYELUSIVE at 4-1 is a live closer if the Jackson pair put in a spirited internal fight.

Secondary Choices

Key To Success (POST 3) at 5-1 for trainer Kim Puhl and L A Gonzalez draws the three-hole and is positioned perfectly to stalk the Jackson pair. Puhl also enters Austrian Navy (POST 4) in this same race, giving her barn a similar advantage to the Jackson entry in terms of pace control. KEY TO SUCCESS at 5-1 is solid value.

Austrian Navy (POST 4) at 6-1 for trainer Kim Puhl and Jefferson Skerrett is the second Puhl entry. From the four-hole, AUSTRIAN NAVY has room to maneuver, and Skerrett will likely look to sit directly behind the pace and make a sustained run. With two barn entries, Puhl has strategic options similar to Jackson.

Longshots

Yellow Feathers (POST 1) at 6-1 for trainer Gonzalez Aldana and S Spieth draws the rail in a six-horse field. The 6-1 morning line is workable at six and a half furlongs, and the inside post is a genuine advantage. If YELLOW FEATHERS has the early speed to dictate terms from the front, the price makes this horse an interesting exotic inclusion.

Selections

Win: City Scene (POST 2) Place: Candlelight Hours (POST 5) Show: Practicallyelusive (POST 6)

Betting Strategy: The Jackson barn's 1-2 entry makes this race a difficult win-pool exercise. The best approach is to focus on exactas and trifectas. Exacta: City Scene (POST 2) over Candlelight Hours (POST 5) is the logical combination but will pay minimal odds. The value is using Candlelight Hours (POST 5) on top with Key To Success (POST 3) and Practicallyelusive (POST 6) underneath if the companion entry outperforms the morning line favorite. Trifecta: use City Scene (POST 2) and Candlelight Hours (POST 5) on top, with Key To Success (POST 3), Practicallyelusive (POST 6), Austrian Navy (POST 4), and Yellow Feathers (POST 1) below.

RACE 8 — Post (4:20)/3:20/2:20/1:20 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500n2y | BUM | Purse $17,400

The closing race is a six-furlong sprint for female claimers who have not won two races in the previous year, entered for $7,500. The nine-horse field is the largest of the card and offers the most complex trifecta and superfecta payouts of the afternoon.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

National Diamond (POST 4) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and draws a central post. The pace scenario in a nine-horse field at six furlongs is inherently complex. Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6), Lady Lottie (POST 7), and Feeling Easy (POST 8) figure as contenders at various odds levels. With nine horses breaking from a six-furlong chute, the early positions will be contested, but National Diamond (POST 4) from a mid-field draw should find a comfortable tracking position. Dolce Marie (POST 1) and Angel Wings (POST 3) could apply early pace pressure from inside posts.

Key Contenders

National Diamond (POST 4) at 2-1 for trainer Lorenzo Juarez and Luis Alberto Batista is the clear morning line choice. From the four-hole at six furlongs, Batista should be able to put this horse in a prime stalking position. Juarez spots horses effectively at this level, and NATIONAL DIAMOND at 2-1 is a sound selection, though not exceptional value.

Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Justine Eder and Angel I. Diaz is identified as the main threat. Eder also enters Check The Facts (POST 5) in Race 6, suggesting an active afternoon for the barn. TALE OF THE LYON at 4-1 represents solid value against the 2-1 favorite.

Lady Lottie (POST 7) at 4-1 for trainer Jeff Radosevich and L R Rivera is the Radosevich barn's closing entry on the card. Rivera has been the barn's go-to rider all afternoon, and if Radosevich is at full confidence heading into the final race, LADY LOTTIE at 4-1 deserves serious consideration.

Secondary Choices

Feeling Easy (POST 8) at 5-1 for trainer Nestor R. Rivera and Rocco Bowen is a closer who benefits from the nine-horse pace scenario at six furlongs. If the early fractions get quick, Bowen can maneuver Feeling Easy (POST 8) into a late run. The 5-1 morning line is fair.

Dolce Marie (POST 1) at 6-1 for trainer Richard L. Genovese and German Terraza draws the rail, which at six furlongs is a natural advantage on a fast surface. The 6-1 morning line on a rail draw is slightly intriguing. If Dolce Marie (POST 1) has the speed to maintain the inside position through the first turn, the price could be slightly overlaid.

Shakeurskinnylegs (POST 5) at 10-1 for trainer Jeffrey Skerrett and Jefferson Skerrett presents an unusual angle of a father-and-son or same-family trainer-jockey combination. The Skerrett family pairing warrants attention regardless of morning line, as these combinations often produce a motivated team effort.

Longshots

Angel Wings (POST 3) at 12-1 for trainer Ivan Calderon and Fernando Salazar Becerra draws a favorable inside post but carries a price that suggests form questions. Calderon also enters City Signs (POST 9) in this same race.

City Signs (POST 9) at 15-1 for trainer Ivan Calderon and Humberto Haldar draws the outside post in a nine-horse field at six furlongs, which is the most challenging scenario on today's card. The 15-1 morning line is justified by the draw alone. Minimal exotics use only.

Penny's Treasure (POST 2) at 20-1 for trainer Raquel A. Castro and David J. Haldar is the longest morning line on the card. The 20-1 reflects significant form or class concerns. Pass in all but the widest superfecta tickets.

Selections

Win: National Diamond (POST 4) Place: Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) Show: Lady Lottie (POST 7)

Betting Strategy: The nine-horse field in Race 8 is the best trifecta and superfecta race on the card. Trifecta: National Diamond (POST 4) and Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) on top, with Lady Lottie (POST 7), Feeling Easy (POST 8), and Dolce Marie (POST 1) completing the third slot. Superfecta: use National Diamond (POST 4) on top, with Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6), Lady Lottie (POST 7), and Feeling Easy (POST 8) filling the next three positions, spreading to Dolce Marie (POST 1) and Shakeurskinnylegs (POST 5) as alternates.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Fernando Salazar Becerra carries the heaviest book of the afternoon with mounts in Race 1, Race 3, Race 4, Race 5, and Race 8. His five rides span multiple claiming levels and include co-favorites and secondary choices. Salazar Becerra's ability to manage pace and navigate traffic at Thistledown makes him a reliable booking throughout the card. His mounts aboard Lil Bit (POST 6) in Race 5 and Kozem (POST 4) in Race 3 are the two most interesting from a handicapping perspective.

Jefferson Skerrett is equally active with five mounts, including Drill City (POST 5) in Race 2, Special Beach (POST 3) in Race 3, Hidden Access (POST 3) in Race 4, Go Girl (POST 4) in Race 5, and Austrian Navy (POST 4) in Race 7. Skerrett's presence on the card in various favoritism positions underlines his standing as one of the leading riders at Thistledown this summer. His ride aboard Hidden Access (POST 3) in Race 4 at 5-1 is a notable angle.

L R Rivera has a full card with rides in Race 1, Race 2, Race 3, Race 5, Race 6, Race 7, and Race 8. Rivera's connection to the Radosevich barn is the most important theme of the day, as the trainer deploys Rivera consistently. In the feature Race 7, Rivera rides the morning line favorite City Scene (POST 2), which represents the most significant assignment of Rivera's afternoon.

Victor R. Fernandez also carries a busy book with rides in Race 1, Race 2, Race 3, Race 4, and Race 5. Fernandez aboard Special Beach (POST 3) in Race 3 and Social History (POST 6) in Race 2 are the two most meaningful mounts.

Rocco Bowen appears in Races 1, 4, 5, and 8, with Come On Arlene (POST 7) in Race 5 being the most compelling ride. Erik Barbaran takes the Candlelight Hours (POST 5) mount in Race 7 for the Jackson barn, a significant assignment given Barbaran's primary affiliation with Radosevich.

The Skerrett family connection in Race 8, with trainer Jeffrey Skerrett sending out Shakeurskinnylegs (POST 5) for jockey Jefferson Skerrett, is one of the more unique angles on today's card.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jeff Radosevich is the dominant trainer on today's program with entries in Races 1, 2, 5, and 8. The barn deploys Red Head Kid (POST 1) and May Mayhem (POST 9) in Race 1, That's The Way (POST 4) in Race 2, Driven For Success (POST 2) in Race 5, and Lady Lottie (POST 7) in Race 8. Having two horses in Race 1 is a notable angle; trainers who double-enter in the same race often have a strong preference for one horse, and the morning line suggests May Mayhem (POST 9) and Right On The Munny (POST 3) are the barn's co-choices, while Red Head Kid (POST 1) is slightly secondary at 6-1. That's The Way (POST 4) at 2-1 in Race 2 is the Radosevich barn's best individual chance of the day.

Shane Meyers is active with entries in Races 1, 2, and 4, saddling Bumpkin (POST 4) in Race 1, Drill City (POST 5) in Race 2, and Dr. Zarnett (POST 7) in Race 4. Bumpkin (POST 4) at 3-1 is the top Meyers choice and one of the top selections on the card. The Meyers barn has been consistent at the $5,000 to $16,000 claiming range throughout the Thistledown meet.

Marco Ibarra has a split entry in Race 6, saddling both Coastland (POST 3) and Mr Loooch (POST 4). The morning line strongly favors Coastland (POST 3) at 2-1 over Mr Loooch (POST 4) at 4-1, suggesting the barn's preference. Ibarra also has Roll On Big O (POST 1) in Race 4.

James R. Jackson fields a stable entry in Race 7 with City Scene (POST 2) and Candlelight Hours (POST 5), which is a powerful tactical advantage in a six-horse field. The morning line slightly favors City Scene (POST 2) at 2-1 over Candlelight Hours (POST 5) at 3-1.

Kim Puhl's double entry in Race 7 with Key To Success (POST 3) and Austrian Navy (POST 4) mirrors the Jackson strategy and sets up a potentially barn-controlled pace scenario. Puhl will have two horses positioned between the two Jackson runners, which creates an interesting strategic dynamic.

Caryn Vecchio sends out Kozem (POST 4) in Race 3 and Hidden Access (POST 3) in Race 4, with the latter at 5-1 representing solid wagering value. Justine Eder, who enters Check The Facts (POST 5) in Race 6 and Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) in Race 8, appears to have a productive barn heading into the afternoon.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The morning line favorite structure throughout this card reveals several key themes. Odds-on and near-odds-on horses appear in Races 2, 3, 4, and 7, which compresses win pool value on those favorites. The best individual win value plays of the afternoon are Blazing Tony (POST 1) in Race 6 at 6-1 from the rail, Come On Arlene (POST 7) in Race 5 at 5-1 as a pace scenario beneficiary, and Driven For Success (POST 2) in Race 5 at 6-1 for the Radosevich barn with a capable jockey.

The Pick 4 running from Race 5 through Race 8 is the recommended sequence play of the afternoon. Race 5 features co-favorites and a 5-1 closer, Race 6 has a manageable six-horse field with a 2-1 favorite, Race 7 is the stable-entry feature, and Race 8 is a contentious nine-horse field. A flexible Pick 4 ticket using Lil Bit (POST 6) or Val's Twinstar (POST 3) in Race 5, Coastland (POST 3) in Race 6, City Scene (POST 2) in Race 7, and National Diamond (POST 4) or Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) in Race 8 would be the base investment.

For the Pick 5 covering Races 4 through 8, single Roll On Big O (POST 1) in Race 4, use Lil Bit (POST 6) and Val's Twinstar (POST 3) in Race 5, single Coastland (POST 3) in Race 6, use City Scene (POST 2) and Candlelight Hours (POST 5) in Race 7, and spread National Diamond (POST 4), Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6), and Lady Lottie (POST 7) in Race 8. This ticket at $1 base would cost $12 for the full combination.

The best individual exotic race on the card is Race 8, the nine-horse closing maiden-type claimer with multiple live 4-1 and 5-1 horses beneath a 2-1 favorite. A $1 trifecta box of National Diamond (POST 4), Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6), and Lady Lottie (POST 7) costs $6 and offers substantial payout potential given the competitiveness of the field. Adding Feeling Easy (POST 8) as a fourth runner in a $1 trifecta part-wheel costs an additional $18 but dramatically improves coverage in a field where upsets are likely.

The most appealing single race for exacta wagering is Race 6, the six-horse $12,500 open claimer. Coastland (POST 3) at 2-1 over Midnight Warship (POST 6) at 3-1 is a natural combination, and the Blazing Tony (POST 1) exacta reversal at 6-1 offers real upside if the rail horse fires.

For daily double players, the Race 7 to Race 8 double using City Scene (POST 2) over National Diamond (POST 4) and Tale Of The Lyon (POST 6) is the recommended structure. Using Candlelight Hours (POST 5) as an alternate in Race 7 adds insurance on the Jackson stable entry.
